Canonical url does not seem to be recognised by Moz
-
Hey guys, forgive me... brand new user of Moz. Moz is telling me I have duplicate url's - a lot of them. Investigating I see that it is classing
http://creativedigital.co.nz/artprints/lake-tekapo-church-of-the-good-shepherd?tag=lake
as a duplicate of
http://creativedigital.co.nz/artprints/lake-tekapo-church-of-the-good-shepherd
even though there is a canonical tag in head as follows
I'm not quite sure what I am doing wrong. Any advice would really be appreciated
Mike

I am having sort of the same issue.
Joomla plugin sh404SEF has a canonical field that I have been using as I can only code in the body of the pages in Joomla. It makes the tag syntax:
<link href="http://customsigncenter.com/itemlist/category/40-soccer-banners" rel="canonical">
Some of them are recognized by Moz and some of them are not. Why would a joomla plug in create canonicals incorrectly?
thoughts?

Well spotted. I've booked my eyes in for a polish, first thing in the morning. Well, that or someone's spiked my Gin with some tonic water.

Thank you for the response. I will PM you now...

Thanks for this Lisa, I have popped a bit of php in to reformat to:
It seems all links in the head were being generated in the same format regardless. Hopefully this might work.

Hey Mike! It looks like the formatting of that canonical tag might be off. You can read more about canonicalization and proper formatting here: https://moz.com/learn/seo/canonicalization
Here is a post about how we detect duplicate content: https://moz.com/devblog/near-duplicate-detection/

Hi Mike,
The Moz toolbar is reading that canonical link correctly, so I wouldn't be overly concerned. An update of the Mozscape API will take place at around the 28th of this month. (https://moz.com/products/api/updates) you are likely to see different results then.
EDIT: The formatting of the canonical was, indeed, askew - I need an eye test. (In my defence, it was late and Gin.)
You have other on-site issues to deal with, including hundreds of broken links, other duplicate content issues and and broken HTTPS version of your home page (https://creativedigital.co.nz/artprints/) - You should be looking to move from HTTP to HTTPS as soon as you are able, as Google are really pushing for this - Certbot and LetsEncrypt would work on your setup.
If you'd like, PM me your email address and I'll send you over a Site Audit - free and gratis (I created it to investigate this for you, so you may as well benefit from it).
I hope that helps.

Moz not able to crawl our site - any advice?
When I try and crawl our site through Moz it gives this message: Moz was unable to crawl your site on Aug 7, 2019. Our crawler was banned by a page on your site, either through your robots.txt, the X-Robots-Tag HTTP header, or the meta robots tag. Update these tags to allow your page and the rest of your site to be crawled. If this error is found on any page on your site, it prevents our crawler (and some search engines) from crawling the rest of your site. Typically errors like this should be investigated and fixed by the site webmaster. I have been through all the help and doesn't seem to be any issues. You can check the site and robots.txt here: https://myfamilyclub.co.uk/robots.txt. Anyone got any advice on where I could go to get this sorted?

Homepage duplicated content - 301 redirection - "Rel="canonical" - Headache
Hello Moz community, I already have 301 redirection in my .htaccess , just like this: RewriteEngine On
Getting Started | | mdmoz
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^mysite.com$
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ "http://www.mysite.com/$1" [R=301,L] Mozpro shows that I have duplicated content for www.mysite.com & www.mysite.com\index.html I am a little lost, there is " 301 Redirect" and "Rel="canonical", moz replied me back that I need to use "Rel="canonical", but can one use both together? i also read on forums, if I 301 redirect index to /, there will be infinite loop and such. Another story, I am also getting IP Canonicalization error when I checked my SEO performance: Your site's IP ...* does not redirect to your site's domain name. This could cause duplicate content problems if a search engine indexes your site under both its IP and domain name.** Which adds to my headache. What is this one all about? There is no single thread or page here, to clear all this confusion and give a straight solution, but rather each page or thread says do a different thing. I am lost, so somebody help!0 -
How do I interpret Duplicate Content in a Crawl Report, when it only gives me a URL? How do I know what is duplicated on that page somewhere else?
I need help interpreting the Crawl Report for Duplicate Content. It gives me the URLs of pages that have duplicate content, but how do I know what content exactly is duplicated elsewhere? And how do I figure out where it is duplicated? Also, are there Moz Analytics articles or videos teaching you how to use each component of the analytics programs? Thanks!
