How to optimise 2 (almost) identical ecommerce pages
-
I have an ecommerce site selling only 1 product on subscription. However, I want to offer a free trial of the product on 1 page, and a buy it now on the other, thus 2 pages, but selling exactly the same product.
I also thought it would give me the opportunity to rank both pages for separate keywords?
Will this strategy work, or should I just look at combining both of these pages into 1 ? If so, would I then just build out blog content around my keyword list?
Many thanks

In addition to the links and relevance, I'd also consider if your keywords would be distinct enough from each other if you created two pages and two sets of keywords. If they are quite close to each other, then Google may get confused as to which one to rank which can lead to keyword cannibalisation issues.
Generally, I'd only recommend creating two pages and allowing Google to index them if they are distinct enough from each other to avoid this problem. It sounds like this may be tricky if your new page is the same product but simply a free trial.
Also remember that you could create two pages and then just stop the new one from being crawled and indexed by Google. This would prevent any ranking problems but allow you to have two pages. I'm not sure if this is worth it in your situation to be honest but I thought I'd mention it just in case. I'm sure that you could use some good design/UX and have both a free trial and a buy now link on one page - it's fairly common.

Thanks for that, I hadn't thought about it from that perspective. I guess that alone would be a good reason to go for the 1 page.

One consideration is how you plan to acquire links and gain relevance. In many cases, one page is a better strategy because you will have twice as many links to the one page, in contrast to splitting half to one and half to the other. For example, you might find better results ranking #1 for at least one of the terms than #5 for both terms. Also, you should be able to rank one page for multiple terms. For example, if you can include both terms in the URL itself, and in the title tag, and within context on the page. There's not a definitive answer to your question, but I would say in general I would prefer one very strongly ranked page than 2 weaker ones (and splitting your product into 2 will usually result in two weaker ones, from an inbound links standpoint).

How to Begin a Web Page
Hi Mozers, At the beginning of a web page, is it better to have a linked Table of Contents of sorts to begin the page (bulleted list of topics that the page addresses that are made up of jump links to different parts of the page) or just start the page with sentences of content? Is one approach better for SEO? Thanks, Yael

Strategy for product content page development.
I have a project to work on product and landing pages for a website with 5000+ SKU's. I am looking to hire a content writer to do this but I want a strategy in place to develop these pages. I have googled a bit and they mostly talk about the body of the page. I am looking for best practices for the entire page, Title, H1, Meta and body. Any good tutorials for this type of project anyone can recommend? Anyone with experience doing this type of project? Thanks, Mark

Does Anchor Text in Links Count When Google Looks at Overall Keywords on the Page?
So, on our site, we have a list of related blog posts on a page that focuses on bamboo flooring. These blogs posts have anchor text like "What's the best bamboo flooring?" "How to install bamboo flooring." "Yada yada bamboo flooring yada." Because the main keyword for the page is bamboo flooring, would the presence of these words within anchor text on the page be considered as keywords on the bamboo flooring page, affecting that page and possibly stuffing within that page?

Optimizing Webpages for Keywords- Using Text Links to Distribute Internal Page Rank
My Manhattan based commercial real estate firm hired an SEO firm. The company conducted a content audit, created a keyword matrix and suggested optimizing 51 pages for specific keywords. A specific price per page was quoted, which I understand and accept. I was under thought that setting up internal text links to redistribute page rank and thereby improve ranking for competitive terms was included in the price. But this task was not included in their quote. I really want to avoid getting nickeled and dimed to death. Should this cost be included, or legitimately is setting up the internal link structure something that is an additional expense? If this task is legitimately an extra, how labor intensive is it? A lit bit of extra time when re-writing pages or a completely different task that would be quite time consuming? Also, I believe the flow of page rank within a site can have a big effect on ranking, so setting up internal links is critical. Are these assumptions correct? For some background, www.nyc-officespace-leader.com gets 4,500 organic visits per month. Google Page Rank is 2 and the site was hit by Panda in 2012 but has partially recovered. I would really appreciate some insight from the MOZ community. I do not want to pay too much or too little for these services. THANKS, Alan

How To Optimize Similar Product Pages
I found some really good resources on here regarding how to optimize for product pages, however I have one question. We carry about 20 different products lines. EX: Cold Saws, Band Saws, Press Brakes etc. For the cold saws product line we have Manual Cold Saws and Automatic Cold Saws. Same for Band Saws. Since the products are very similar and people are technically only search for manual cold saws, manual coldsaws, manual cold saw machines etc. Each product line has between 10 and 50 machines. How do we optimize each product page for 1 keyword phrase.? Can I have about 5 manual cold saw pages target the same keyword phrase or does each page have to be targeting completely different key phrases? like, manual coldsaws, manual cold saws, affordable manual coldsaws, etc.

Duplicate Page Title Recommendation (For pretty much identical products)
Hi, I'm currently writing the meta data for the launch of a new ecommerce site for our company & the way the site is set out means that each product has it's own landing page. The issue with this is that we have a lot of products that either do the same thing or are only a very slight variation of another product. This is causing a bit of a problem writing the page titles because as you can imagine in order to keep it relevant I'm having to pretty much copy other page titles. For example Product A 3/4 Length | Keywords | Company Product A Full Length | Keywords | Company Also as you can imagine it's a bit of an issue for the on-page text due to the only variation being the length (in this example) with only a slight bit of changed content to accomodate. I was wondering if anyone had come across similar problems to this and if so how did they resolve the issue? I don't really want to be penalised by Google for multiple duplicate content/metadata across the site. Should I just target the keyword for one of these products and then target a still relevant keyword, but one that has next to no searches for the other, similar product do you reckon? Cheers

Does Google Places pick up interior pages?
For example, we have optimized all of a clients interior pages to the point where it is competing with some of their competitors main pages. Unfortunately, they do not show up on most of the Google Places keywords. Their competition, who are lower than them organically, automatically show up in Google Places while they do not show up at all. Organically they are 2nd or 3rd in most of their keywords, but no one near the top in Google Places. Thank you!
