Duplicate content and what to say to my webmaster
-
Hi,
SEOmoz is telling me I have a duplicate content issue between
kansascityrealestate dot com and
kansascityrealestate dot com/Real-Estate-Homes-Kansas-City.asp
my webmaster says Google should figure out is the same page.
Suggestions on what to do and how to explain it to the webmaster?
Thank you.

Happy to help Send all my best to your daughter, us Kate's must stick together

This is a classical case with websites where same content is found on 2 different URLs of the website.
1st of all, ask your webmaster to do a 301 of your 2nd url to your homepage. Tell him that since the content is duplicate, it makes no sense to ask Google to crawl 2 pages with the same content.
If you cannot do a redirect, you can add a rel=canonical tag to your meta to tell Google that the 2 URLs have same content.

Thank you, Joe (or Joel), very nice of you to answer. I appreciate it.

Thank you, Kate. My daughter's name is Kate as well. I appreciate your help.

Your webmaster is right, Google will notice that they are the same. The issue with that is that crawl time is then spent on two exactly same pages. One will not show in the results, so why even have Google or any other search engine crawl it? It's a waste of their time and yours. I wanted to see the duplicate content but can't find the second page. If they are exact duplicates and the other one holds no value, 301 redirect it to the homepage and find the links to it, email webmasters to change the links. If there is a reason for it to exist, then slap on a rel canonical to the homepage.
Best of luck!

My "tag" pages are showing up as duplicate content. Is this harmful?
Hi. I ran a Moz sitecrawl. I see "Yes" under "Duplicate Page Content" for each of my tag pages. Is this harmful? If so, how do I fix it? This is a Wordpress site. Tags are used in both the blog and ecommerce sections of the site. Ecommerce is a very small portion. Thank you. | |

URL Parameters causing duplicate content - Login/Registration page
All, I just recently acquired a new client and right away I noticed an abundance of duplicate content being recorded after the moz crawl diagnostics was completed. After a quick digest of the issue, it seems that the majority (90%) of the outlined duplicated content is stemming from the client's Login/Registration page. Upon clicking (without being logged-in) any asset or forum discussion board link within the site, the user is automatically redirected to the Login/Registration page, which seems to create this massive redirect loop associated with dynamic url parameters. Ex. After clicking on a select internal link (asset or discussion board) the user is redirected to the Login/Register page which presents the page and a URL that looks a lot this this: Ex. 1 https://www.clientsite.com/register-login?ReturnUr...xxxx%xxxx%xxxx%...... Ex. 2 https://www.clientsite.com**/register-login?returnurl=/register-login?returnurl=/register-login?returnurl=/page-titl**e/ These URLs seem to becoming larger and larger... The client wants to ensure users have to Login/Register within their site before they're allowed to view the content. This process doesn't allow for any type of preview page to be viewed by a user prior to clicking on the internal link, which in turn doesn't allow any preview pages to be indexed. Right now, Moz is picking up all of the redirect and labeling them as duplicate page content/duplicate page titles based on the Login/Registration page. Questions/Comments: Would it be wise to create preview pages for the asset pages and discussion board pages to allow for proper indexing? - Could this be a CMS issue? Current being used on this is, Kentico. There are thousands of pages being recorded in the crawl as duplicate, however only 14 seem to be indexing with duplicate title tags. 301 or canonical redirect strategy? Moz crawl data issue? Again, this is my first look at this issue, so more information is bound to come out soon! Please let me know if anyone has run into this issue and if you have a possible solution to get rid of this redirect loop process. Thanks! -T

Tags on my website cause duplicate content
Hi I just recently started a website and I am new to MOZ pro. What Moz pro detected on my website under high priority is that "duplicate page content" and what I realize about these duplicate page content is regarding the tags i put on my post. Because it is a wordpress blog, we are allow to add tags on the side before we publish our post. And because of these tags, it linked to the same page but different url. for example website.com/tags/whatever website.com/tags/whatever 2 and both these url direct to the same page So how do i solve this? do i just stop tagging whenever i write a post? delete all tags while it is not necessary? i seen method like 301 redirect or rel=canonical but is there anyway to solve this problem so I do not face this issue whenever i make a new post in my blog? I mean it doesnt make sense to redirect 301 to every single tags i have whenever i write a new post right? thanks guys

Codeigniter - Controller and duplicate pages
Hi there, I use Codeigniter as framework and I have a question about the duplicate page. Actually, for default, the typical page in a CodeIgniter framework is something like this: http://www.domain.com/site/contact where site is the controller containing the contact function that point to the contact.html view... To have a better URL I use a trick with the "routes" that redirect any http://www.domain.com/contact to the original http://www.domain.com/site/contact Of course the both are valid and the both are... crawled! So I get the duplicate page. Is this something I have to manage, maybe with .htaccess? Any idea would be very appreciated. Thanks for you precious time guys! Shella

Port 80 and Duplicate Content
The SEOmoz Web App is showing me that every single URL on one of my clients' domains has a duplicate in the form of the URL + :80. For instance, the app is showing me that www.example.com/default.aspx is duplicated in the form of www.example.com:80/default.aspx Any idea if this is an actual problem or just some kind of reporting error? Any help would be appreciated.

Duplicate page title
I own a store www.mzube.co.uk and the scam always says that I have duplicate page titles or duplicate page. What happens is thn I may have for example www.mzube.co.uk/allproducts/page1. And if I hve 20 pages all what will change from each page is the number at the end and all the rest of the page name will be the same but really the pages are if different products. So the scans think I have 20 pages the same but I havent Is this a concern as I don't think I can avoid this Hope you can answer

Upper and lower case spelling = dupe content?
Hi All, I've looking at my Crawl Diagnostics Summary and working on getting my site errors down as low as possible. One thing I'm noticing is that in the "Other URLs" column I'm seeing a lot of 1s. When I click on the number, it is showing me the exact URL with an upper case category title. For example, it appears like it's telling me that these two URLs are considered duplicate content: http://mysite.com/Category http://mysite.com/category Is that right? Does google care about upper and lower case spelling?
