Link Acquisition - PA vs PR
-
I am wondering if someone can please advise on link acquisition. I have the opportunity to acquire a few good backlinks that will bring both traffic and some potential link juice. All things aside, if we are strictly comparing Page Authority with Google PageRank which will provide the most benefit to my SERP ranking?
1. Google PageRank 4 and Page Authority of 25
or
2. Google PageRank 2 and Page Authority of 35
We are strictly talking about SERPs!

You are comparing apples and oranges. The combination of PR and pa isn't really going to help you as much as some other Moz metrics. If you are spending time and effort getting links as opposed to mass spam stuff you will want to focus on the subdomain mozrank of the potential link your are getting. Especially if it is a blog related link. That is because your page will grow in authority over time as google indexes more pages on that website that contain links back to that specific post. Great links grow in value over time and crappy links dont. Domain authority is valuable, but it can misrepresent the value of a link if the following occurs:
The website uses spammy methods to link build (Linkscape doesn't do a very good job of determining the difference between contextual based links and comment spam.
The link you are getting is on a subdomain of the website (DA takes into account the domain mozrank which is different than the subdomain which is more important. Especially on hosted blogs like wordpress, blogger, or typepad)
I have asked Ran, and tend to agree with him that you are much better focusing on links on high authority subdomain mozranks with low PA than low domain authorities with a high PA.
That being said. Make sure you also take into account the amount of links on the page. Whatever authority you are going to grab is going to be split amongst those links. It may also be beneficial to spend a proportional amount of time evaluating to the value of the links. If you have a choice between two websites that are in the 70's of DA range you should be spending a lot more time evaluating than DA's in the 20's and 30's

Obviously I should take a PR4/PA35 over a PR4/PA20, but should I take a PR2/PA35 over a PR4/PA25?
Take the PA35 and treat the PR stat as if it doesn't exist.
Numeric measurements have value as long as they are accurate. Google has clearly stated PR data is not updated even on a monthly basis. Everything I have seen indicates it is basically a deprecated system of measurement.

Yes, but I also thought DA was already factored in PA.
I am asking if anyone has any practical experience building links when they target PA only, rather than PR.
Obviously I should take a PR4/PA35 over a PR4/PA20, but should I take a PR2/PA35 over a PR4/PA25?
(I have watched all the videos and explanations, thank you for the great links. I also have the mozBar).

PageRank is an outdated stat. Google doesn't update it very much (if at all) anymore so you're looking at outdated data if you use PR. Page Authority on the other hand is calculated much more frequently. One other metric which you can get (and should heavily consider) from the updated SEOMoz Toolbar for Firefox or Chrome is Domain Authority.
Rand Just did a great Whiteboard Friday Video on Link Acquisition called Competitive Link Analysis Tips.

Internal links: How do I find keywords that are not linked to a URL?
Hi Moz members I'd really like to place an internal link of every instance of an important keyword phrase "cycling caps" or "cycling cap" to my eComm category page

https://www.prendas.co.uk/collections/headwear/cotton-caps I feel this would not only help my customers browsing my store, but I believe it will help from an SEO perspective. How can I search my site using Moz, Screaming Frog, Google etc to find every time cycling cap(s) is used but is not linked to the above URL? I can then apply the same for cycling jerseys, socks, etc Andy0 -
Should I disavow these links?
Hi all, I have a site that is a year old, we have been building backlinks organically - probably around 50 or so - then almost overnight we had100s of spammy links. Screenshot here: https://ibb.co/cijiub My questions: Should I disavow these? What happens if I don't disavow these? Can I work out where they came from? If I disavow a few of them, is this a token offering to the Google Gods that will lower my risk of being penalised? Thank you. cijiub

Unnatural Links To Your Site — Impacts Links warning, Should I do something?
Hi, I got: "Unnatural Links To Your Site — Impacts Links Google has detected a pattern of unnatural artificial, deceptive, or manipulative links pointing to pages on this site. Some links may be outside of the webmaster’s control, so for this incident we are taking targeted action on the unnatural links instead of on the site’s ranking as a whole. " I don't see any dropping at rankings, could the best solution here to be, just to leave everything as it is and be more careful with the link building in the future? Or is there a danger that Google gives further penalties if I don't act on this one do something? I am little afraid that if I start removing links, my rankings will drop, even though they have remained same if don't do anything? Any help is appreciated.

Are links from charities really better than 'normal' links.
Hi Guys. Just wondering about this idea that links from Charities are particularly good. I've heard people say that links from .org sites are particularly strong. But anyone can get a .org domain, it's just that charities tend to use them more often. Right? I just don't get the logic. Can anyone give more detail about this? Is it a myth? Is there quality info on this topic I can check out? We're working with several charities at the moment, and they all seem happy to blog and link to us...so I just wanted to know a little more. Isaac.

Link building
Hello everyone, I am building links for an e-commerce site and I need to increase the value of the links we get by placing them on specific pages in order to pass more juice to inner pages. Which part of the website should I point the links to? Because there is no content section on the site what I can do is either link to the homepage (not an option) or link to inner pages such as category/subcategory/product pages. My doubt is that it wouldn't look natural to link to products pages from a piece of content or from a site where people go with the intention not to buy but to get information. Any opinions on this?

Reciprocal links
Are they worth anything, if they are from relevant sites? I'm I better off avoiding linking back wherever possible?

Link Detox and Link Removal
I have a question about which links to remove after running a link detox from Link Research Tools. First a little back story. I had had an SEO company link building for one of the websites I own. But I have recently stopped working with them. In the last month my rankings have near dropped off the charts. I have just recently gotten access to Google webmaster tools and noticed an unnatural link warning from back in March. So yesterday I ran link detox and it reported 19 toxic links, 120 suspicious links, and 24 healthy links. It's rather obvious that I should remove all of the toxic links. They all from sites that have been deindexed by google. But my question is a about the suspicious links. What should my criteria be for removing them? Am I better off removing them all and leaving my site with only 24 healthy links or should I personally comb through them and remove only the worst of the worst so that I leave my site with a few more links? I'd really like to get the site ready to resubmit to google as soon as I can. Thoughts? yyCOf.png

Why are none of my incoming links showing up in SEOmoz or Google? How do I get good legit incoming links?
There are hundreds of sites that are linking to my website, but nobody is showing it. Google wont display any when using link:eugenecomputergeeks.com, and in webmaster tools it only shows 46 incoming links. SEOmoz shows only 3 links. This just isn't so. Why is this? I DESPERATELY need valid incoming links from well ranked websites , and having lots of trouble getting them. Nobody in town with a well ranked site seems to want to do a link exchange, and I've already made the mistake of buying my way into directories, which didn't do anything good for my rankings. Thanks!
