Impact of URL shorteners in Twitter feeds
-
Hello,
Will use of URL shorteners [bit.ly/tiny.cc or equivalent] in Twitter feeds impact the rankings of a target pages?
As I understand it Twiitter links are automatically generated as nofollows so I am assuming the published link is irrelevant.
Is this still the case?
If we do continue to use URL shortereners should we look at branded URL-shorteners to provide link context?
Thanks.

Aside from the Twitter feed factor, as far as I'm aware there is some issue where only some shorteners pass link juice while others don't. I can't remember where I got that from so I did a search to see and found this (not sure of its credibility though): http://www.kensfi.com/how-url-shorteners-pass-link-juice/
There's some links from SE Land here though which seem to be saying all is well http://searchengineland.com/twitter-gets-its-own-url-shortener-to-stop-scams-37676

That only really half answers the Q, but interesting none the less I think

Why can't FB find this url?
The other day we updated an old blog post, http://www.kempruge.com/flashing-headlights-no-good-deed/, and while it uploaded fine to g+ and the page is live, for some reason, FB says it can't find it. This has never happened to me before, so I don't know what to do? I tried posting other links to FB from our site, and they all worked, so I know it's not a problem with our site. Then, I tried posting the link using other FB accounts, but they did't work. So I know it's not our FB page. I did do one thing that may have caused this problem, but not sure. After I updated this post, I scheduled it to post thinking it would do it immediately. I went to post the link on FB, before it was scheduled to publish in WP, and that's when I noticed it wasn't finding it. I went back to WP, and changed the schedule time. Once I did that, the page was live, but I can't get FB to recognize the page. It's like FB needs to clear its cache or something. Any ideas? Thanks, Ruben

Can Hootsuite Really Monitor Competition Activity Across the Facebook, Linked & Twitter?
I'm going round and round in circles with this one as everytime I ask Hootsuite they tell me the same thing and it does not work so here we go... I want to monitor another competitors social media activity. Specifically i want to see if they are active in Facebook, Twitter & Linked in. But am i right in saying you can only monitor social activity of a competitor if you can connect Hootsuite to there social media account via a stream. Put another way imagine Lacoste say - "Right give me a report on what Nike is doing on facebook". Is Hootsuite useless unless you can connect it to Nikes Favebook business page? My misery is best explained by this url - http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc53/zymurgy_bucket/tracking-via-hootsuite-3jpg_zps2fa47469.jpg If Hootsuite has this limitation then whats the point in Hootsuite promoting itself as a socail listening tool when as soon as you want to monitor a competitor you hit the proverbial brick wall. Maybe I'm using the wrong tool & hootsuite is limited or I'm a bit thick & it can be done. Any help welcome, I'm likely to be see jumping out of an office window in a town near you very very soon 😉

Possible to automate/semi-automate twitter followers into specified list(s) after the fact without doing so one-by-one?
I have a list of about 3,000 Twitter followers and would like to segment my followers into separate lists for "emergency preparedness" and "travel." Is there a tool that can help me automate this without reviewing each profile one-by-one?

Twitter based competition
I have a client who wants to run a twitter based competition. The idea is as follows. tweet the url of your favorite product from clients website, with #hashtag . so potentially there could be 100+ tweets referencing three or four unique urls on the clients website. What I am interested in is there any SEO benefit to be gained from this.

Twitter profile: Personal photo vs brand graphic image
We are promoting our company on twitter, and currently using a high quality brand graphic image. We see others who use the personal photo of "evangalist" who manages the twitter account. Any advice on what works best here to encourage user engagement? A more generic "brand" identity graphic versus a real person's photo? Of course this is in conjunction with doing all of the other good Twitter things, but curious what folks recommend on the profile image.

Does it make sense to have one facebook/twitter account for multiple websites?
If you have several different websites with related themes, does it make sense to just have a facebook or twitter page for the company to make managing the account more manageable?
