Scapers and Other Sites Outranking
-
Post panda, there is definitely more talk about scrapers or other (more authoritative) sites outranking the original content creators in the SERPS.
The most common way this problem is addressed (from what I've seen) is by rewriting the content and try your hardest to be the first one to be indexed or just ignoring it from an on page standpoint and do more link dev.
Does anyone have any advice on the best way to address? Should site owners be looking deeper into their analytics and diagnostics before doing the rewrites?

I would not rewrite.
If your competitors are grabbing lots of your original content and using it you could contact an attormey to take copyright action against them or file DMCA complaints.
You need to be really serious about this to take these steps and have the ability to prove the the content is your own.

Thank you EGOL. Would you suggest a rewrite as well as link development or just the link development as a stand alone. These are for product descriptions.

I think there are two issues here....
-
Google can not identify the original author of a document. They can tell who got indexed first but that is not necessarily the author. The author might have distributed in print or by email or on unindexed webpages before publishing in the open online. If you want to declare public ownership of a document you should prepare an author page and link to it from each of your works using the rel="author" attribute on the links. More information. This could help your original content to outrank verbatim duplicates on the web - maybe.

Scrapers are usually pretty easy to beat in the SERPs if you have a genuine site with lots of links from other sites in your topic niche. If they are beating you then the best way to fight it in the SERPs is to get more links. The answer is the same when genuine, more authoritative sites beating you with copies of your own content.
In my opinion, people who syndicate their content are at greatest risk for this problem. Don't syndicate your content. It feeds your existing competitors and creates new ones. Then your site gets lost in a sea of duplicate content.

301 entire site
Is there a good 301 code snippet to change just the root domain but keep the ending extensions? I just bid on a domain that I think would be much better for me moving forward, but do not want to have to try going through thousands of pages to do their 301 individually My site is almost 4 yrs old. Well established and has a large fanbase. Several of our social networks are under the name of the new branded domain, hence part of the desire to switch.

Pagination for Ecommerce Site - How do I fix this?
Hi Everyone... I'm having issues on how I should fix the pagination on my ecommerce site http://www.moondoggieinc.com Right now I have rel="canonical" putting them all back to the main page like on: http://www.moondoggieinc.com/dog-harness.php but there are also some shop all categories like: http://www.moondoggieinc.com/products.php?cat=all+dog+harnesses But I wish I could get it so that the content only showed on the first page of them all and then just the products showed in the pagination after that. I have no clue how to make this happen successfully. I know this is a big problem with the structure to the site, creating some duplicate content and such, and I was wondering how I can even begin to go ahead and start tackling this. My background is as a designer so I'm just learning both seo, and anyhting past html / css, so I could really use any help you guys can offer. THANK YOU! KristyO

Separate Site or should we incorporate it into our main site
Hello, We have a website to sell personal development trainings. The owners want to start 2 blogs - one for each owner - that promotes their personal coaching practices. What's the SEO advantages of embedding both blogs in the current site vs starting 2 brand new blogs with their names as the domain names?

Duplicate content on ecommerce sites
I just want to confirm something about duplicate content. On an eCommerce site, if the meta-titles, meta-descriptions and product descriptions are all unique, yet a big chunk at the bottom (featuring "why buy with us" etc) is copied across all product pages, would each page be penalised, or not indexed, for duplicate content? Does the whole page need to be a duplicate to be worried about this, or would this large chunk of text, bigger than the product description, have an effect on the page. If this would be a problem, what are some ways around it? Because the content is quite powerful, and is relavent to all products... Cheers,

Should I link my similar sites together?
Hi I currently have two sites within exactly the same market. I've just purchased a third website from someone. Should I link these sites together? (i.e. in the page header should I cross link them or point two of them to the third?) If I do this will it harm them if they are on the same C-Class IP blocks? Is using private domains and different hosting companies considered dodgey in any way? Basically I'm a big wimp and don't want to do anything potentially that might potentially hurt my rankings;)
