Should I post these viral videos/photos on my website?
-
I started posting viral videos and stuff that I found on reddit and youtube on my facebook fan page. It's getting a lot of attention and creating more opportunities for bonding with my fans/customers.
I'm just wondering what you guys think about reposting some of this stuff on my blog...do you think it would be worth the time and effort?
I've experimented with a few and it really does draw traffic to my site...and gets me facebook shares. But the traffic is very poorly converting.
So, now I'm trying to decide if the extra time it takes (i.e. 5-10 minutes to write a blog post and include the video imbed code vs. 20 seconds to just hit the "share" button) is worth it.
What do you think?

Just make sure that you're not violating copyright when you repost these. I've seen some posts that were compilations of copyrighted images found on the web, with some nasty comments on the post from the original artist.

I agree... you might get a ton of SERP traffic for these. Your site might also show in the universal search results for that video.
I have a blog where I make very short posts of newsy content. I use lots of videos and often use the word "video" in the title tag. I think that it pulls people in from the SERPs.

I'm noticing something else as well....if I post these on my blog and tweak the title a little I can get search traffic.
So, let's say there is a viral video that is called "Freakoid cat accident" and the content of the video is about a cat that falls off of the top of the fridge. Well, when people are searching, they're not likely to search for "Freakoid cat accident"...they're more likely to search for "cat that falls off of fridge".
So, with a few minutes of my time, I am suddenly ranking well for a video that has thousands of ppl searching for it.

Great points. I do get some conversions from my FB fans...but you're right, in the long run, what I build on my site will stay forever...my stuff on my fb page is very temporary.
OK then...I'm going to start a section of my blog for cool photos and videos. I'm thinking something like this will get me more subscribers as well.
Fun!

I don't like to build houses on other people's land.
So, I would post them on my own site where they can attract links, likes, tweets, etc. that point to a property that you own - which is also a property where you have better control over producing income.
You can spend your time cultivating a following on facebook or spend your time developing a following for your website. I am betting on my website.
I see a lot of value in FB and other social sites if you have a "message" to spread. My message is a means to earn a living and I think that I can do that best by building equity on my own site.
How much money are you making off of FB?

Is it possible to get demographic data for a certain section of the website and only that area and not the whole site? Tools? Analytics? Suggestion.
I have a /blog/ section of the site that we would like to have separate demographic data for. But I am unable to figure out the way to create it in a custom report. Is there steps I need to include?

Opinions/advice on Blog posts please
I'm an intern at an Accounts Software Company. I'm doing SEO for them. As part of this I've recently started blogging. I'm doing this in an effort to increase traffic to the blog, and try to shift content focus away from Startup Methodology and increase focus on the product..I've had some success with it, in terms of increased Domain Authority and keyword ranking. At the same time, Keyword ranking can suddenly drop for some keywords, closely related to the ones I'm trying to rank for. The further difficulty is, that nobody wants to read about Accounting subjects. I've tried to make my posts as interesting and as valuable as possible.I'm still having trouble gauging whether I'm going about things the right way. Please take a look at some of the posts I've done. If anyone had any critique/advice I'd really appreciate it.. Here it is: http://www.bullethq.com/blog/category/accounts/

Should OG tags be used on a websites homepage?
My current shopping cart uses OG tags on about 1/2 of all pages, it puts them on product pages and that about it. Would it be beneficial to have these tags on all pages? Thanks for your time.

Linking Facebook activity and your post
Hi everyone, I'm sure you know how images tend to do better in Facebook. The problem is, if I post an image on Facebook, and link to a blog post in the comment of that image, the activity of that Facebook post wouldn't be pulled into the blog post. That is, the blog would show 1 "like" when the post on Facebook is actually getting 150 "likes". That wouldn't be the case if I posted a link instead of an image. Does anyone know of a work-around? Thanks.

Are links from Pinterest 'do follow'/do they have any SEO benefit?
Afternoon all, I know there is a question about Pinterest that was asked in February but I guess it was a fairly new beast then and people were still unsure about its use for marketing/SEO etc. I run an events business and on our Pinterest profile I tend to pin random stuff I find on the net, themes we are running (directly from our website) and other Pinterest users. I have received several 're-pins' and people are really starting to follow us now. What I am keen to know is whether or not having lots of followers/re-pins on Pinterest has the same effectiveness from an SEO perspective as having lots of Facebook/Twitter/Google+ followers and whether or not these re-pins are 'do follow' links or have any SEO benefit whatsoever? Many thanks Rob ps: Pinterest page is http://pinterest.com/eventa/ , if anyone has any tips on how to better utilize this then that would also be greatly appreciated 🙂
