What should I do with my blog...V2
-
Hello again!
The other day I was asking about my blog which is on http://cheshireweddingphotographyblog.co.uk/
Based on the answer, I decided I wanted to move it within my website. So I emailed Photobiz saying I wanted it to become:
http://www.celynnenphotography.co.uk/blog
They want me to make it: blog.celynnenphotography.co.uk
They say the benefits (re: SEO) would be the same but that there would be more downtime if I wanted it done my way.
Are they right in saying the benefits would be the same for blog.celynnenphotography.co.uk as it would for http://www.celynnenphotography.co.uk/blog ?
Thanks!

This is what he told me after what you guys said. Is this accurate and OK?
"In making this transition from having a separate blog domain for your blog to celynnenphotography.co.uk/blog please be aware that there are several steps involved that can result in temporary down time for your site and blog in making this transition. Please also note that since you are making a major DNS change on the domain for the blog it can take some time for the blog to re-index on search engines. Also your Photobiz site will be down until this transition is complete, and after that it will index on Google as "site.celynnenphotography.co.uk""

I believe that this issue is so important that I would be willing to change designers or hosts or whatever is needed to get the blog in a folder. I am out to win, not fart around.

The whole thing is whether having a blog on a sub-domain or sub-folder makes a difference. Well since sub-domains do not inherently get any page authority from their root domain I see the sub-domain as a worse option. They are not correct that it's the same. The most common example I have heard and used is people who launch blogs on Wordpress.com. If the blog is launched in a sub-folder then it is seen as more of a part of the main website and thus authority will translate better back and forth for you. If you wanted an example from someone smarter than myself I would just look at the way SEOMoz does it...lol.
The most common problem I have when talking to clients about this issue is the way the original website was built. Sometimes the platform or CMS they chose is restricting to a degree to allow common blog platforms to handle url re-writing correctly and various other factors.
If you are given the option I would recommend a sub-folder setup. It may be easier for developers to do the sub-domain, which I usually hear from web developers. As far as downtime... just do the switch on a sat or sun night. I usually don't see that as a big deal and when thinking about the long haul I would rather have it setup correctly.

If you read lots of Q&A discussions here you will find that http://www.celynnenphotography.co.uk/blog is recommended the most. My blog is in a folder.... SEOmoz blog is on seomoz.org/blog and YOUmoz blog is at seomoz.org/ugc
About a year ago I redirected two subdomains to files in the root and the results have been kickass.

Blogger.com with an RSS Feed or on-site blog?
I have a client who uses blogger.com as their blogging platform, however this isn't helping to build the depth of their domain. They like to use this because it is easier for them than to create a blog post in their wordpress website. I am wondering if adding a feed to their site on a dedicated blog page would help SEO at all or would it be best to teach them how to use the wordpress CMS to blog? I was thinking that by adding the feed since it is their original content that it might have a similar effect. I know this is probably simple but I want to see what the moz community says. Thanks.

Integrate a blog within an existing site
Hello everyone! I work on a website of a very small company and so far no one has ever implemented (not even thought about) a proper content strategy. The only content on the site are products description. Through Analytics I discovered lots of opportunities and topics to be covered which would massively increase the traffic, increase the engagement and (hopefully) sales. Problem is that I don't really know how to integrate a blog into the existing site; my first thought was wordpress What is the best way to do it?

Help: my WordPress Blog generates too many onpage links and duplicate content
I have a WordPress Blog since November last year (so I'm pretty new to WordPress) and the effects on ranking for some keywords are really good. So I thought tag clouds are good. Crawl Diagnostics tell me now that I have too many onpage links for example my author page breaks the record: 256

http://inlinear.com/blog/author/inlinear/ I think thats because there are links for each word in the tag cloud generated ... On this page (and many other pages) WordPress displays (teasers) the beginning of each post (read more ...) producing duplicate content and even new canonical tags.... The page titles are also too long because I installed "All in One SEO Pack" and now this plugin and wordpress itself mixes titles together ... But what can I do to avoid all this. Is there a PlugIn that can help... I think millions of blogs will have the same problems... I my blog yet has very few content. Thanks for your answers :))0 -
Exponentially Increasing Duplicate Content On Blogs
Most of the clients that I pick up are either new to SEO best practices, or have worked with sketchy SEO providers in the past, who did little more than build spammy links. Most of them have deployed little if any on-site SEO best practices, and early on I spend a lot of time fixing canonical and duplicate content issues alla 301 redirects. Using SEOMOZ, however, I see a lot of duplicate content issues with blogs that live on the sites I work on. With every new blog article we publish, more duplicate content builds up. I feel like duplicate content on blogs grows exponentially, because every time you write a blog article, it exists provisionally on the blog homepage, the article link, a category page, maybe a tag page, and an author page. I have a two-part question: Is duplicate content like this a problem for a blog -- and for the website that the blog lives on? Are search engines able to parse out that this isn't really duplicate content? If it is a problem, how would you go about solving it? Thanks in advance!

Tags on blog post
I have just ran a report on SEOMOZ and it's came back saying I have over 1000 pages on my website with duplicate content, I thought wow that's not good, however when I looked at the report it was counting duplicate content because I have used more than one tag on a blog post, for example the blog post: www.example.com/blog-post/ Has the tags example 1 example 2 example 3 Meaning I have these URLs www.example.com/blog/tag/example-1 www.example.com/blog/tag/example-2 www.example.com/blog/tag/example-3 All 3 URLs above have the same content as www.example.com/blog-post/ because of the tags, is this a problem? Thanks

Seo-friendly way to post blog content to homepage?
We have an e-commerce website. We would like to feature content from our blog on the site's homepage (both on same domain). The content we want to feature is latest posts titles (say 5) plus the few first lines from each post. We want search engines to be able to read this content. Is there a SEO friendly way to achieve this? Thanks in advance.
