Does it hurt your site to syndicate content on other sites?

Does publishing an article from your site on other sites hurt your site if you require a link back to your site?
If website B, C, and D publish an article found site A, but they link back to site A, does that hurt or help site A?

You would determine the quality of a site based on all the normal factors. If you have a URL to share I would be happy to take a look and share an opinion on it's quality.

Does quallity sites includes "article directories" ? Not any article directory, but 5-10 article directories.

From one side, it's a common way of getting links. By the other hand it's a complex issue of Google determinig the original source and even with the result on your favor, it could be a matter of domain/page authority on SERPs results. Ths issue is quite similar to the "I rank worse than my scrapers" effect. There is a somehow historical debate on WebmasterWorld from 2003: http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum44/522.htm And a more recent one, almost with the same discussion about ranking lower than the scrapers, WMW, 2010: http://www.webmasterworld.com/google/4182363.htm It may seem that Panda could had solve this issue, but in fact it got worst. There is a very good SEOmoz post about content syndication, scrapers and loosing traffic and SERP position after Panda: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/postpanda-your-original-content-is-being-outranked-by-scrapers-amp-partners Suggestions: If you can ask for a link back... Can you ask for a rel canonical? Implement proper metadata (schema.org) inside your content that points to you on the syndicated content. Use social signals to promote your content just after published by you and before getting to syndicated site (or scrapers). Experiment, Analyze, and decide after that.

If you offer a quality article to other quality sites who properly tag the article, it can be quite beneficial to your site. There's a few carefully chosen words in that statement so I'll offer some clarification.
Quality article: If you offer some helpful, informative "best on the web" type of content then share the article on other sites, you are exposing yourself and your site to an audience that may otherwise have never known about your site. I would make sure you already have solid content on similar topics so when your article attracts traffic, you can keep them interested in your site. If you write an article on the health benefits of Vitamin A, then a "related articles" area that talks about other vitamins or health issues which vitamin A addresses would be great.
Quality sites: If you share your article with sites that already have established audiences, then your article will be exposed to new viewers. Anything from social media sites like Reddit, to topic sites like Glamour magazine, or PC Magazine can be helpful. What you want to be careful about is sharing the article with sites that do not have established articles. In that case the benefit is minimal and the published article on the other site can wind up competing with yours in SERPs for traffic.
Proper tagging: The article should either use a canonical tag to identify your site as the source, or the new meta tagging such as rel=author. It should be clear that your site is the original source of the article.

301 redirect from a de-indexed site
Is link juice passed from a website that has been intentionally de-indexed by webmaster? The scenario is I had 2 websites with similar content. I decided to get rid of one by de-indexing. I also did a 301redirect from my de-indexed site. Not the whole domain but just the 2 URL's which I believe could pass on link juice. In this case how long the link juice would flow via 301 redirect?

Link building for a non-linkable site?
Hello, I am trying to zone in on a link building strategy for a non-linkable site. What I mean by non-linkable is I have a construction site. It's a family owned and operated small business. Our clients are farmers and older people usually. We go do a job, do it right the first time, and leave. Basically even if a couple of people who link to me for some weird reason, this is no way in the realm of 6,000 that my main competition has. I have tried to get as many quality citation resources as possible by using get listed, and white spark. My domain authority is only 16 though, so I must be able to increase this somehow. I have listed with Google +, Bing, Yahoo and every other major citation I could find. So now with trying too increase links with other ideas. I read somewhere to donate to charitable organizations, but if they link back to me as a donor, in an unrelated field, isn't that spammy like? So a construction site donating to a disease website, and then getting a backlink in return, does that look weird. It just seems like there are so many rules that I do not want to mess something up. I do not want get spammy links, but not sure if citations count as links so I am doing a win-win thing? Thanks for any tips Chris

Someone not removing a link to our site
Hi Mozzers, We recently worked with an SEO company that bought a few sitewide links without our permission which caused us to get a huge slap by the last panda/penguin update. We managed to remove most of the links except one site (The biggest one).

Challenge: How to SEO a site with almost no content
Wondering what you all would recommend for SEO on this site: www.gudville.com Most of their content is behind a login. Basically there are 5 pages open to Google and to anyone without that login, and they are not open to doing it differently at this time. Once in, there will be a lot of sharing with Facebook friends that will include invitations to join them in their causes. Love to hear all your recommendations. Kathy

Local service site link building
I have a local service site http://winecountrycarpet.com/ and I have been link building as much as possible for my landing pages (which aren't local to my city, but are within 20 miles). I would like to keep my link building as above board and white hat as possible (so i do a lot of forum sigs and links in do follow forum in my industry) I do not seem to be seeing any results though. My pages are on the first page for their targeted keywords, but I think this has more to do with onsite SEO and non competitive keywords. I am wondering if anyone can recommend any strategies that I might find more effective. I have thought about leaving blog comments on do follow blog's but it just seems so spammy its hard to imagine it working. I am open to any ideas.

What to do with a new good looking site?
With a new site comes new challenges. We have recently finished one of our clients websites in the Retirement (financial) field. www.retirementireland.ie In my opinion the site is looking good, fast loading(very little js, optimized images) and good SEO structuring. As being a new site i feel like the decisions taken now are crucial. If SEO is done properly could save a lot of time. If not would take us a while until we get 1-5 positions for retirement, retirement options, retirement planning, retirement ireland. Any thoughts on existing design / structure / content. Any extra suggestions are welcome.

Links from multiple sites coming from the same server?
Hi SEO Mozers, As I structure my link building campaign I come across alot of directories some of which are located on the same server. If I am to place links on these sites is this is negative signal for big G? The reason I ask is because I see that a competitor has used these various directories and is ranking on the no 1 spot for a moderately competetive keyword. I am able to place links on the sites with almost no effort at all therefore even if it does not pass alot of link juice is it still worth it for me. But if this is seen as a negative I would not persue it. What is your thoughts on this? Thanks in advance, Ross

Domain position on site:domain.com search
Hi, After the last week Google algotithm update, my web site index appears on 4th position when I search for site:www.domain.com If I make a simple search for domain or domain.com it ranks on first position. Is this a sign of a penalty ? What would be the cause ? Thanks
