Setting up a blog for client, should I build external links to the blog
-
I have a new client in the holiday industry and want to setup a wordpress blog, we will be writing the first few blogs and linking back to the relevant site page. But I am wondering how I should promote the blog so that the links are more powerful back to his own site.
Blogging is not my forte and doesn't come naturally so I really need some good advice to how I can start offering this service to my clients.
Thanks

Thanks so really with blogging and social media the client really needs to understand the importance of sharing information and that we are not directly trying to create business.

I am wondering if client cross referencing is wise when blogging. For example linking client blogs to each other, linking my own blog to the clients blog etc...
This sounds 100% manipulative.
I believe that the people who get the best return out of blogging develop a message that they want to spread and pursue that with enthusiasm and verve.
Perhaps you should set up a blog for each client and help them develop a mission of education, entertainment or sharing for people in their business niche.

Hi Ryan,
Thanks for taking the time to respond, as I say the whole blog arena is a bit alien to me. I am trying to schedule my day better so that I can spend time dedicated to blogging. I am wondering if client cross referencing is wise when blogging. For example linking client blogs to each other, linking my own blog to the clients blog etc...
Thanks
Andy

I would question whether building external links really falls into the work of building their blog, or whether you want to bill that separately as an SEO service.
That being said, you should definitely optimize the blog to the best of your abililty as it pertains to the scope of the project. I would include these in your checklist:
- Make sure the theme you're using is optimized (proper use of on page SEO like h1 tags)
- Use an SEO plugin like All-In-One-SEO, and configure it properly (turn off indexing for supporting pages like author, tags, categories)
- Use plugins that can link their social media accounts with their blogs, for example Socialite, which can publish your blog posts automatically to a facebook account and more.
- Make sure comments are properly set up, this is most easily done with a tool like Disqus.
The other stuff involved with making a blog successful takes a lot of time and effort. You need to build relationships with similar sites, create well written content that can go viral. This stuff typically falls on the shoulders of the site owners or their employees.

Is there a quick and easy way to check a website to see which outbound links open in the browser window and not in a new window?
I have just come across a few blogs on a website that have outbound links that open in the browser window (and therefore direct people off site to these links) (there are also other outbound links that open in a new window)- is there a quick and easy way to check which outbounds links open in a new window and which open in the browser window? Much obliged Liam

Should we implement rel=author on every past blog post
Hi guys, we're in the process of implementing rel=author markup on our blogs containing more than 3,000 posts. They are written by about 50 different people, and some of them don't blog anymore or are no longer with the company. Should we have rel=author for all blog posts, even those published in 2006? Thanks for your help!

Guest Blogging Question!
Hi, The anchor text link connected with an article used for guest blogging, say the anchor text has 3 words and the link is in the byline, do these 3 words need to be used within the article content? For example if the article is 500 words long and the anchor text from the link is not used at all in the article content will this have a massive negative effect against using the anchor text in the article a few times? Cheers

Duplicate Page Content WordPress blog with categories?
Just got a crawl report back from SEOmoz and it gives me lots of errors for "duplicate page content". Upon investigating, I notice this is because my WP blog is setup into categories so the home page is almost identical to one of the category pages. None of my actually posts are the same but the category pages have some overlap since the same post could show up in two or more categories. Is this a problem or can I just ignore this error? Any thing I should be doing differently? Thanks!

Tools to Eval Blog Content - Rate your Fav tool
Ok, so I know that is has been covered in depth and at the risk of being sent to “google it!” (Which I have done with no success) I thought that I would ask your opinions on the topic. What are the best content marketing evaluation tools? By this I am specifically referring to tools that evaluate the content of Blogs, etc and not the performance of the blog, etc. I’m eager to hear your thoughts of what works and if you care to share what tools did not. Thanks

Opinions for the Long URL strings in WordPress Blogs.
We use Wordpress for our agency Blogs. The URL's are very long and the Moz does not like the long URL's. Should we use the stubby, short Wordpress URL's for each blog post? Is there a "Best Practice" for how one should use the Wordpress URL string?
