Slight Drop after Minor Link Building
-
Hi,
Last week I build around 10-15 high quality related links to my trampoline pads website which was ranking number 2 for "trampoline pads" and number 1 for "trampoline pad". After building the links this week it has dropped in the serps to around number 5-6 for both. Is this an effect of the link building and will it bounce back in? the url is http://www.trampolinepad.co.uk/.
Kind Regards,
Simon -
The only thing internal site links can realistically do is adjust how PR flows within your own site. If you wanted to stretch for a corner case, you could have an island page or deep page that was not indexed or seen previously, but since you created a link to that page then it is seen. If that page had issues with it's content or links, then a penalty could be involved.
Based on your replies and the small amount of ranking drop, I really don't think a penalty is involved. The maximum it would be is a discounting of links.
If not do you know of any alhorithm changes in the past week?
With around 500 algorithm changes each year, there seem to be changes every week. I am not aware of any major changes but minor ones happen all the time.

Hi Paul, I cant find the urls as I haven't saved them however they were all the homepage and using the websitse url or varying anchor text. I don't think they look paid/sponsored as it would be on there links page or on the websites footer. It could defiantly look suspicious as I have not built links to the website for a while. Simon

What are the URL's of the links? Are they all keyword-rich anchor text links? Do they all go to the same page? Are there any signs that the links could have been paid/sponsored?
I would say that 10-15 links is a lot to get in one week, especially if they're all really high quality and you weren't really building many links prior to this.
It may look like you have gone and built a large number of links (that are all similar) in a short period of time in order to boost rankings quickly.

Hi Ryan thanks for the help, one of the other websites "gardengames" is actually owned by us as well as hasnt been touched in quite a while. I recently added some internal links to the homepage, would this of effected it anyway if it was not the links? If not do you know of any alhorithm changes in the past week?

There is no apparent reason for the drop. Based on the information you shared the only reasonable explanation is Google made a change to their algorithm which benefited the other sites, or acted to your disadvantage. Another less likely possibility is two or more sites made SEO improvements to their sites.
I can only suggest you continue building links and perform normal SEO improvements for your site.

I see, the links were actually quite good they were all from trampoline clubs and ymnastics clubs and with varrying anchor text from using the word "trampoline pads" to "trampoline padding" or just with the url. I understand that the other sites may be resonable to rank above me however I am simply wondering why I may of dropped.

I see your site as #7 for "trampoline pads" and #4 for "trampoline pad" in Google.co.uk SERPs.
Google can recognize your new links very quickly. The exact time is dependent upon the popularity of the site and pages from which you acquired the links. We wont be able to see the links in OSE for 1-2 months. Is there anything questionable in any way about these new links which could have drawn a penalty? Are any of these reciprocal links?
Your hope page seems to be executing many of the basics of on-page SEO quite well. Looking at your older links it appears all the followed links use the identical anchor text. I would recommend varying the text a bit otherwise it appears quite unnatural.
Is this an effect of the link building and will it bounce back in?
Rankings do not drop after link building unless you did something to incur a penalty. I would not expect your site to bounce back unless you resolve an issue for which you were penalized.
At a quick glance, you are #4 for "trampoline pad" and the three results ahead of you are ebay's two listings and another site with a trampoline page. All the sites have a higher DA then your site, and the PA of the #1 site is significantly higher then yours. The rankings don't seem unreasonable at all.

Google crawl drop
the crawl request of my company site: https://www.dhgate.com/ has dropped nearly over 95%, from daily 6463599 requests to 476493 requests at 12:00am on 9th, Oct (GMT+8). This dramatic dropping trend not only showed in our GSC crawl stats report but also our company's own log report. We have no idea what’s going on. We want to know whether there is an update of google about crawlling, or is this the issue of our own site? If something is wrong with our site, in what aspects would you recommend us to check, analyze and accordingly optimize?

Internal Link Rank Flow
I've read in many articles that pages can "pass" rank to other pages internally. Is anyone aware of any well done internal linking case studies which confirm this? If my homepage has the strongest Page Authority, would linking to another page deeper into my website from my homepage boost my rank for the deeper page in Google (more so than linking to the deep page from a page with lower page authority)?

Spammy nofollow links
Hello, One of our clients - a cleaning business - has a heck of a lot of spammy nofollow links pointing to their site. The majority of the links are from comments or 'pingbacks', most with the anchor text 'cheap nfl jerseys' or 'cyber monday ugg boots'. After researching the subject of spammy nofollow links, it seems there is a lot of uncertainty regarding the negative affect these could have on your SEO efforts. So I guess my question to the community is: if your site was suddenly hit by a plethora of spammy nofollow links, what would you do and why? Cheers, Lewis

Malware ranking drops
Hi, One of our sites got hit with malware in November. We cleaned it up and sent a reconsideration request and no malware warnings are in WMT anymore. We still haven't seen an improvement in rankings even though people say it can take up to 90days? Organic traffic is down 40% and still dropping. Any advice? Thanks

Link Building Stragedy can anyone please give me advice
my site is www.in2town.co.uk Hi i hear a lot about having a linking structure in place and a linking stragedy but i am not really sure what i need to do even though i have spent months reading about it. What i have been trying to do is to link as many of the pages within my site to the home page and i am now looking at linking pages in my site to around my site to different pages, just like en.wikipedia.org So when i have a story on cheryl cole, i will make sure that i link from that story to another story i have on cheryl cole etc. But i would like to know what else i need to do. For my home page i want to rank for the following keywords Lifestyle magazine Lifestyle news celebrity news celebrity gossip showbiz news soap spoilers I would also love suggestions for other keywords i should be aiming for, for the home page. I find it hard as my site is a magazine site, so i do not have many places to put a description of each page of the site, so i would love some help on this and advice what i can do to let google know what my site is about. If anyone can help with putting a linking stragedy in place and what things i should be doing to increase my ranking for important keywords, then that would be great many thanks

HTTP301 or link ?
We have a page on a website (let's name it ABC) which ranks very well on Google for a specific keyword but this keyword is not the main activity of website ABC. For this reason we created website XYZ for offering the services related to the specific keyword. How shall we redirect the visitors from website ABC to website XYZ so XYZ gets all the weight ? Is it best to do an HTTP301 from the specific page on site ABC or from site ABC, remove nearly all content related to the keyword and create a link to website XYZ ? Your advice is well appreciated.

Why would you remove a canonical link?
Currently, my client's blog makes a duplicate page every time someone comments on a post. The previous SEO consultant told the developer to not put a canonical link directing it to the main blog post. Did taking out the canonical link result in these duplicate pages? My question is why would she recommend this action? Is it best to now add in the canonical link in or should we implement a 301 redirect or insert a index: no follow? Would adding a canonical link keep duplicate pages from happening in the future?
