Backlinks from PR sites not showing in Open Site Explorer
-
Hi,
Over the last year I have used a range of different PR sites to post news articles that link back to various pages on my site. However, barely any show up as link backs on Open Site Explorer, neither follow nor nofollow links.
Can anyone explain why this is and whether or not the dofollow links count towards SEO if they are not picked up by OSE?

Thanks for the reply, sorry it's taken me a while to respond.
I've used a variety of PR sites for the best part of a year now so it seems strange that barely any of them are being picked up.

And a similar reply from Casey Henry:
"OSE is updated monthly with the freshest data that it crawled from the month before. There are a few different things you need to remember when looking at links in OSE. First, It may take up to two months before you link will appear depending on when it was crawled and when the system processes it. Second, the web is very very large and sometimes the spiders don't get to every website and collect every link you've earned. I suggest you not worry too intensely that the link doesn't appear in OSE but continue to work on getting a wide variety of links. It is highly likely that Google has found this link and we are still working on it."

When did you sign up for SEOmoz Pro? It can take a while for the crawler to acknowledge links. This is from a past Q&A by Joshua Mullins:
"the seomoz crawler is very conservative and will take a while to pick up on links. This has both good and bad aspects. Don't worry though you can always check in Google's webmaster tools for backlinks to your site.
It usually takes 1-2 months for the mozcrawler to find links to my sites. If you are impatient you can try pinging the links with something like pingomatic.com although i am not sure if the mozcrawler listens to those signals or not...."

Spammy backlinks
I am very new to this site and need some help. I have two spammy backlinks in my report that were done by my host provider as I hired them for SEO. When I click on the web site there is no where to contact them. I can only subscribe to their group and I sure don't want to do that. Is having two ranking as an 8+ awful. I don't know if I should do the Disavow route or not.

Spammy no follow backlinks - what should I do?
There is a individual/company that is creating lots of spam sites in my niche. It doesn't seem that they are trying to rank for any keywords, so I'm a little confused as to their purpose, but here's what they're doing. They scrape the top 10 Google results for each keyword and create a page - so if the niche is "widgets", they scrape the top 10 ranked sites for 'widgets', 'blue widgets', 'red widgets', and so on. A 'results' page is created for each keyword, which is linked from a home page. The results page always contains 10 websites - text is the site metadescription or similar. Each website gets a nofollow link back with the page title used as the anchor text. The host sites all have the keyword in the domain name - e.g www.widgetsxyz.com. The sites are thrown together but interestingly have a very crappy but individual logo (like 90's clipart). The host sites all have high DA/PA due to some very extensive link spam pointing to the sites, with very targeted keywords. There is seemingly no purpose to these sites that I can see - no other 'followed' links on the page or site. Whoever is doing this is churning out tens, if not hundreds of these sites. Any ideas what might be going on here, and whether I should be disavowing these sites (even though no follow). The fear is that they could switch the links to do follow, and get all the major players penalised in one fell swoop. ???

Why aren't my backlinks showing up?
I've recently switched hosting my site on www.vamospaella.com to www.vamospaella.co.uk (using a 301 redirect) and I've been building backlinks. According to Majesticseo, vamospaella.co.uk has 38 backlinks with 8 referrring domains and vamospaella.com has 15 external backlinks from 11 referring domains. Some of these backlinks date back a month, while others have shown up in the last week. However, I have seen no improvement in my Google rankings for my keywords. Why is this?

One client, one b2b site and one b2c site - linking relationship
I have a client that has 2 websites in a particular industry. The first website concentrates on advertising services and products to other organisations/companies but does not sell anything online. The second website is an ecommerce site with many products from the same industry and is more a b2c operation. Would it be considered ok to add maybe 5 footer links from one to the other and vice versa? considering that they are footer links and will ultimately increase total links pointing to both site exponentially. Both sites are hosted in the same location.
