Link anchor text: only useful for pages linked to directly or distributed across site?
-
As a SEO I understand that link anchor text for the focus keyword on the page linked to is very important, but I have a question which I can not find the answer to in any books or blogs, namely: does inbound anchor text 'carry over' to other pages in your site, like linkjuice?
For instance, if I have a homepage focusing on keyword X and a subpage (with internal links to it) focusing on keyword Y. Does is then help to link to the homepage with keyword Y anchor texts? Will this keyword thematically 'flow through' the internal link structure and help the subpage's ranking? In a broader sense: will a diverse link anchor text profile to your homepage help all other pages in your domain rank thematically?
Or is link anchor text just useful for the direct page that is linked to?
All views and experiences are welcome!
Kind regards,

Ahh ok sry misunderstood the question (my bad):
If you have a page (the one linked to with an anchor text) and this page contains do-follow links then some of the "value" (for the search phrase in question) will flow to the other pages. But! (there's always a but
since only a small percentage of the value will flow, the value of the other pages are most likely to little to show up in any search result, since other pages will probably out weigh it in the SERP's.
In other words: Yes anchor text flows just like link-juice

Hi Rene, thanks for your contribution. I'm more than familiar the flow of link juice and authority throughout the website.... I'm wondering specifically if the external link 'anchor text' will flow to other pages on the site and thus load the entire site thematically...

A link passes link juice internally and externally. Since the link helps the Authority and Trust of the entire domain. If you have a link to a page and that page links to another page, then some of that link juice will flow from page one to page two.

This is a question I have struggled with and although i cannot prove it I would say yes.
I was making blogs to funnel pr and traffic to my main site. I was using a pyramid link strategy and at the bottom tier (yes they were spammy profile links but hey) I used my target keywords as anchor text all the way up. The result was a continual increase in rankings over time - since I kept blasting links to the bottom layers.
I did SEO for another of my sites the same way and this time used generic text on the bottom layers. It was easier but the progress in ranking was a tenth of the other site - both sites were in the same niche and had good onsite seo etc.
This observation led me to believe that Google uses incoming Anchor text to determine relevancy - perhaps they take the most common incoming link anchor text and tag that webpage with it to help classify it for relevancy. Onsite factors would be more important but I believe Google may use incoming anchor text to tag pages for relevancy.

How can I identify links that point to a specific landing page with a specific anchor text on my own website?
I am trying to identify buttons and links that point to a specific landing page on our website that have a certain word in the anchor text and I would like to know the referring page URL too. Does anybody have an idea on how to do this? We have above a hundred landing pages and I would rather not go through them one by one 😄 Thanks for the help

How long will old pages stay in Google's cache index. We have a new site that is two months old but we are seeing old pages even though we used 301 redirects.
Two months ago we launched a new website (same domain) and implemented 301 re-directs for all of the pages. Two months later we are still seeing old pages in Google's cache index. So how long should I tell the client this should take for them all to be removed in search?

Ranking without use of keywords on page & without use of matching anchor text??
Howdy folks. So, here is a dilemma. One of competitors of ours is somehow ranking for a keyphrase "houston chronicle obituaries" without any usage of these keywords on the page, without any full or partial anchor text match ("chronicle" is not used anywhere). The rest of competitiors' rankings make sense. Any ideas?

After adding a ssl certificate to my site I encountered problems with duplicate pages and page titles
Hey everyone! After adding a ssl certificate to my site it seems that every page on my site has duplicated it's self. I think that is because it has combined the www.domainname.com and domainname.com. I would really hate to add a rel canonical to every page to solve this issue. I am sure there is another way but I am not sure how to do it. Has anyone else ran into this problem and if so how did you solve it? Thanks and any and all ideas are very appreciated.

If linking to contextual sites is beneficial for SE rankings, what impact does the re=“nofollow” attribute have when applied to these outbound contextual links?
Communities, opinion-formers, even Google representatives, seem to offer a consensus that linking to quality, relevant sites is good practice and therefore beneficial for SEO. Does this still apply when the outbound links are "nofollow"? Is there any good research on this out there?

Any experience with using programs to create UGC pages?
We have a new client (a mobile app) who created a program to create thousands of pages of "unique, user-generated content" for their website. An example: A person in the forum in app asks a question, and people respond. The client's program then compiles the question and responses into a unique, auto-generated page for the website. (I don't think the app is utilizing deep linking -- though I was going to recommend it -- so the app content is not indexed by search engines yet.) The pages are already created -- they are just not live on the site yet. I'm very skeptical. But the client says it's similar to what Stack Overflow does (or something like that). Basic example. Say that a question for which the client wants to rank is, "What Are the Symptoms of Cancer?" I'd think that a quality, human-created, referenced, well-written, authoritative page would obviously rank more highly than a UGC page based on a forum discussion on that topic. But of course, doing that for hundreds of questions is costly and hard to scale -- both of which are concerns of the client (a startup with little money). Has anyone had any experience in this? It's the first time I've tackled such an issue. Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

My landing page changed in google's serp. I used to have a product page now I have a pdf?
I have been optimizing this page for a few weeks now and and have seen our page for up from 23rd to 11th on the serp's. I come to work today and not only have I dropped to 15 but I've also had my relevant product page replaced by this page . Not to mention the second page is a pdf! I am not sure what happened here but any advice on how I could fix this would be great. My site is www.mynaturalmarket.com and the keyword I'm working on is Zyflamend.
