Resources for how to code pages...

I'm looking for some nuts and bolts ideas about how to best layout the HTML code for a webpage.
Can you point to some case studies?
Perhaps you've done some testing yourself?
This could be folded into the Tom Critchlow's question about what should be included in a updated developers SEO cheat sheet.
-
Exactly, that's sort of where I'm at - "...definitely worth a try."
I'm hoping to hear from someone who's actually tested this all out.
-
I'm fairly confident that a crawler will rate the links and information it comes across first as a higher priority than links further down the page. I don't see how putting more relevant content higher on the page and sorting out the placement with CSS could really hurt anything, so it's definitely worth a try!

I take your point... my question is a bit vague. Let me restate...
Let's say you hit view source or go the Google Webmaster Tools and fetch as GoogleBot...
How should the code be arranged within the ?
Have you, or anyone out there, played around with this... I'm thinking that changing up the first link on every page could have some interesting effects. Or, perhaps should we push onpage text up the page.

I don't quite get what you're asking. Are you asking about how to code in HTML, what languages to use, or how to properly lay out a theme to a website?
Most people now-a-days use some sort of Content-Management System as a backend for their site, to add and edit content, while updating the theme using html and php. To get started I would suggest reading some tutorials on how to begin coding in HTML then move on to LAMP development. A lot can be included in this topic!

Paginated Pages Page Depth
Hi Everyone, I was wondering how Google counts the page depth on paginated pages. DeepCrawl is showing our primary pages as being 6+ levels deep, but without the blog or with an infinite scroll on the /blog/ page, I believe it would be only 2 or 3 levels deep. Using Moz's blog as an example, is https://moz.com/blog?page=2 treated to be on the same level in terms of page depth as https://moz.com/blog? If so is it the https://site.comcom/blog" /> and https://site.com/blog?page=3" /> code that helps Google recognize this? Or does Google treat the page depth the same way that DeepCrawl is showing it with the blog posts on page 2 being +1 in page depth compared to the ones on page 1, for example? Thanks, Andy

Do I have to go off page to establish an entity?
So I have always thought of Google establishing an Entity (by entity I mean https://goo.gl/RP8e9B) by looking at the markup on a website. Recently watched a video that discussed creating an entity by using external websites. I have a feeling that you do not have to go off of the main website to have an entity created. Is there anything valid in this concept/video? (https://goo.gl/CNe7qD) The concept focuses on creating branded pages on properties owned by Google and various other well known websites. My main concern is whether this is something I should do for our website or if just doing the little bit of social marketing we are doing is fine.

Why does Google display the home page rather than a page which is better optimised to answer the query?
I have a page which (I believe) is well optimised for a specific keyword (URL, title tag, meta description, H1, etc). yet Google chooses to display the home page instead of the page more suited to the search query. Why is Google doing this and what can I do to stop it?

Page Count in Webmaster Tools Index Status Versus Page Count in Webmaster Tools Sitemap
Greeting MOZ Community: I run www.nyc-officespace-leader.com, a real estate website in New York City. The page count in Google Webmaster Tools Index status for our site is 850. The page count in our Webmaster Tools Sitemap is 637. Why is there a discrepancy between the two? What does the Google Webmaster Tools Index represent? If we filed a removal request for pages we did not want indexed, will these pages still show in the Google Webmaster Tools page count despite the fact that they no longer display in search results? The number of pages displayed in our Google Webmaster Tools Index remains at about 850 despite the removal request. Before a site upgrade in June the number of URLs in the Google Webmaster Tools Index and Google Webmaster Site Map were almost the same. I am concerned that page bloat has something to do with a recent drop in ranking. Thanks everyone!! Alan

"No index" page still shows in search results and paginated pages shows page 2 in results
I have "no index, follow" on some pages, which I set 2 weeks ago. Today I see one of these pages showing in Google Search Results. I am using rel=next prev on pages, yet Page 2 of a string of pages showed up in results before Page 1. What could be the issue?

How many links home on a page?
We are planning on a mega menu which will have around 300 links and a mega slider which will have around 175 links if our developer has their way. In all I could be looking at over 500 links from the home page. The Mega Menu will flatten the site link structure out but I am worried this slider on the home page which is our 4th most visited page behind our 3 core category pages. What are your thoughts?

Why is a page with a noindex code being indexed?
I was looking through the pages indexed by Google (with site:www.mywebsite.com) and one of the results was a page with "noindex, follow" in the code that seems to be a page generated by blog searches. Any ideas why it seems to be indexed or how to de-index it?
