Some doubt about news section URL
-
I have a simple question, I have a website and i want to create a news category. I want to know what is the best way to create a url friendly for this category. I was looking around for news website like New York Times, and others, they use a format like this for the url
http://domain.com/year/month/day/category/ etc.
My question is about the use of the date in that format, like subdirectory, can somebody explain me about it. Any reason to use this format?
What is the diference between using this format like: http://domain.com/news/çategory/article-date-id.html and this one use for the new york time shown before.
Wich one will be work better?
Thank You so much for your help

Thank You Rich, i had the doubt because i saw too many websites using this tecnique. I just think was something relevant.

Neither will necessarily work better. In the old days, news and blogs all seemed to use dates. Problem is that dates don't really add any value so why not just keep it keyword rich with category and article name? If you're going to submit the site as a Google News Source, you may want to read http://www.google.com/support/news_pub/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=68323.

Not sure which url to use for backlinks
Hi our site, northamericahvac.com automatically goes to http://www.northamericahvac.com/servlet/StoreFront. There isnt anything I can do about it though, because we use prostores which limits things for us. That leads me to ask, when I'm making backlinks would I use northamericahvac.com www.northamericahvac,com, or http://www.northamericahvac.com/servlet/StoreFront.

News articles
Please take a look at this site in OSE: www.ehealthinsurance.com. If you sort by highest ranking domain with do-follow and outside pages only you can see that they have a lot of news sites, like cnn and msn money, with high domain authority to write a bunch of barely useful articles with many links in them. I was interested to see if anyone know how to get these sites to link to you as a resource? I cant seem to find a contact person nor can I find a way to submit the articles yourself. any help is appreciated thanks.

Creating new url structure for inbound links
In an effort to make is easier for our clients to link to content on our site we intend on creating a simpler url structure for them: site.com/1234 will 301 to site.com/xyz/abc/1234-this-is-where-we-want-you Is there a danger of creating new 301's just for this purpose, the goal here is to make it easier for clients to link to content and thus garner more inbound links.

Does the url text count as anchor text in google's algo?
I always try to strive for getting good anchortext in links that people link to my sites with, but sometimes they are not very web savvy, or just plain not willing to format the link the way i want it and we end up with links that use the URL as the anchortext. My question is, if i format a url such that it has keywords in it, and when someone makes a link like this: http://www.storwell.com/self-storage-toronto-bursary-application-form.php does google consider the words: storwell, self, storage, toronto, bursary, application & form as the anchor text?

Index.php OR .php - Which is better for urls
I was wondering. When I build links should I build them using "index.php" OR ".php" at the end? Does one have any more value than the other from an SEO standpoint Example: www.mywebsite.com\hotdogs\index.php or www.mywebsite.com\hotdogs.php
