What white hat article marketing tactics do you use?
-
It seems there's a lot of negative connotations with the phrase "Article Marketing" as it's associated with spam, spinning, etc. I couldn't find anything other than that, which begs to ask, what are the white hat tactics that you use after you publish your article?
What tools do you use to streamline the process? Social Bookmarking? RSS?
Any methods you use to score quick backlinks?
How do you get your content in front of bloggers?

We were in the middle of looking at a lot of the PR submission sites and at that time the latest Panda came crawling. We did a bit of checking and even the one with Warren Buffet and the patented SEO program took a hit. From what we have been able to learn PR Web did not take a hit, but....we are still not ready to spend client money on it until a few more weeks past.

Alan, I liked the infoGraphics suggestion to help in the pickup of the article. Good suggestion.

I would keep away from article posting sites, your article will be put deep in the down in the linking structure, most of these sites will have more than 100 links on a page almost all pointing back to their own site so you onley get less than 1% of the little link juice the page has. There is something to say about relevancy, but I don’t think the effort is worth it.
Matt Cutts is pretty negative about them, he his more up beat about directory posting in relevant quality directories.

You are better of writing a blog, or posting the articles on your own site and getting someone to link to them.
I am not much of a link builder, I build sites for small business and I rely on getting my sites technically clean from violations, then listing in local and niche directories, joining niche forums where you get a link on your profile page. OK not the prettiest links, but they are gettable and work ok.Quite often depending on how competitive the keywords that is enough to get you ranking. Works well for Google Places
For quality links, I use the business owner, I tell him he has the best chance of getting quality links from Business to Business contacts. If I am still not there, I follow Matt Cutts advice, and add compelling content and hope it gets links. The content I have had the most success with has been charts, facts and figures (infoGraphics). This does work well over a long time.
Mate, link-building is really hard.

What multi directory submit services should one use?
ubl.org, getlisted.org, localeze.com (neustar now), yext.com ? They all have some overlap, but what is worth paying for? Can you cover 90% of the market with e.g. just Yext and ubl.org or?

Keyword use in online directories
I have been adding our website to online directories which quite often allow me to add a brief description of the organization and add a list of Key words. With regards to the keywords should I list keywords from the organisiantion description that I have entered on the site or should I use the key words that we are trying to rank for, that don’t necessarily feature in the description on the site

Should we use 'disavow' if we dramatically dropped serps after Oct 5th, but did not receive a warning?
We dramatically dropped serps after Oct 5th, but did not receive a warning about bad links on google webmasters. Is it a good idea to find and collect the worst links and disavow them? As there was no warning we can only guess links were the problem, but it seems likely. However we do not want to send any requests to google if no warning was sent. Can disavow be used in this way, or should we do more manually? (We are hoping remove links + increase very solid links + optimize for key words will help revive serps) Many thanks. James

Article Submission Old Hat or Still Good hat?
I have always used article submission sites such as ezine, article snatch etc... I have always seen the big ones as a good way of getting relevant content out into the internet network with the bonus of building quality links back. However I have now been reading a lot of conflicting information, since the latest update from Google that even an article being republished multiple times around the net will wipe out the positive impact of the article and bring no SEO benefit. I wanted to get feedback from the SEOmoz community to see if you now feel this is a pointless exercise and we should now be even more careful as to where our content is published.

Using an SEO Agency to build one-way links for you via link exchange
There are a number of SEO agencies which offer link building as part of their SEO offerings. I believe they build one-way links to the client site, by offering another link in exchange to the liking site. So, if the client site is "C", and link is being requested from site "A", the site "A" owner is offered a link from site "B" in return. Is this a good and/or recommended practice?

Article spinning - is it a spam or legitimate way to build SEO
I am being told by one SEO company that article spinning is the best way to achieve best rank on google. They use software that modifies articles and then submit them into lots of blogs and directories. I am worried that this is not a good long term strategy vs manually writing articles and put them into directiries
