Confused on www vs non-www
-
Hey Everyone...
Really new to the SEO world and have learned tons each day. When I joined SEOmoz I went to my host and set up the 301 direct to have frogfanreport.com go to www.frogfanreport.com.
After a couple of days I noticed that Rogerbot only crawled 1 page on www.frogfanreport.com. Looked into the community posts to try to find an answer. So, I went in and took the 301 direct off and setup a new campaign just for frogfanreport.com. It has now crawled over 300 pages.
Not sure what I need to do or if I just did not set it up the 301 direct correctly. Looking at the link stats the root domain stats are obviously the same. The subdomain stats is where there is a big difference:
www: ext f links 1, total ext links 5, total links 5, f root domain 1, total linking root domain 4
non-www: ext f links 76, total ext links 109, total links 7.962, f root domain 11, total link root domain 19
I am guessing that I should go back in and put the 301 direct from www to non-www? Is this going to affect RogerBot going in? Or did I just not set it up correctly?

I'm third generation TCU and kind of live and die by the Frogs.

Here is a good GWMT link for rel=canon. Frankly, with the 301 and the preferred domain in WMT you should be ok, but this is a good short on rel=canon.
Go Frogs! (Did not go to TCU, but just like the Frogs - lot of friends and now friends kids go there)

Hi Robert....
Thank you so much for responding, you have some good stuff there. I went to google and selected my preferred domain. I taught myself how to write the 301 redirect and put that in an .htaccess file and then taught myself how to upload it. Wasn't too difficult.
I do have one more question in regards to your canonicalize tip. Where do I place that link, ? Do I place that in the .htaccess file as well?
Thanks a million and have a great New Year

Zach (Go Frogs!!!)
The first thing is go into Google web master tools and select a preferred domain. Assumption is you will use frogfanreport.com. Under site configuration and settings you will see select preferred domain.
One of the first things I learned through SEOmoz was that for proper redirect you need to put the 301 redirect from your www.frogfanreport.com to your frogfanreport.com in your .htacess file.
If you also canonicalize to the preferred you will be rocking.

Url-delimiter vs. SEO
Hi all, Our customer is building a new homepage. Therefore, they use pages, which are generated out of a special module. Like a blog-page out of the blog-module (not only for blogs, also for lightboxes). For that, the programmer is using an url-delimiter for his url-parsing. The url-delimiter is for example a /b/ or /s/. The url would look like this: www.test.ch/de/blog/b/an-article www.test.ch/de/s/management-coaching Does the url-delimiter (/b/ or /s/ in the url) have a negative influence on SEO? Should we remove the /b/ or /s/ for a better seo-performance Thank you in advance for your feedback. Greetings. Samuel

Moz vs google data conflict?
Hi there, I am doing an SEO site audit for a client(giveaway, and here is the problem: when performing site:domain.com on google --> 13,800 pages were found When I see this number it seems to be a bit too much compare to the links i checked on integrity(link check for broken links) which gave me a result of 1291. I digged in more into the Google results and saw hundreds(maybe thousands) of pages that are blocked by robots.txt. So I am thinking, ok this is it, thousands of pages can't be crawled by the search engines. Here is the big BUT though, then I check at my moz crawl (see attachment) and no pages are blocked by the SEs, and then look at the dups, only 23 recorded?? Is Moz not crawling properly the 13,800 results that google finds or is this some magical phenomenon happening here? I am really confused here that is why I need some help here! Thank you guys! Campaign Domain "change" (www. vs no www.)
Hello, I'm tracking a domain (with www.thespin.be) since months. Last week we changed things related to domain & server and now SEOmoz has 0 pages crawled. I think that's because now my main domain is without www. (thespin.be). How can I modify my campaign to reflect this "change" (that's not really a new domain..) to avoid losing all my campaign history ? Also, on Google Webmaster Tools it's like I have 2 different sites (one with www. and another without), although I've defined my favorite domain (without www.) months ago.. Google won't update its index. And I have this problem on several other sites.. Thank you very much for giving me a feedback. Regards Jean-Louis

Terminology -branded vs non-branded
I never say nor used these terms before joining SEO moz. can someone explain what this is and how it affects your analytics. SEOmoz actually has a way to select branded words and treats them differently. What is the point or benefit of this? How do you use this to help you with analytical deconstruction.

Hi all SEOmozzers, site: http://f8phototravel.pl I have (in my GMT profile) 43 domains linking. Among them one of the biggest Polish like: onet.pl (5/187), gazeta.pl (8/393), grono.net.pl, canon-board.info, eturystyka.org and other. They are not present in OpenSiteExplorer. Any ideas why? UK vs GB
When selecting which search engines to monitor for a campaign both Google and Yahoo offer 2 very similar options. "Great Britain" and "United Kingdom" Bing only offers "United Kingdom" From a technical point of view, what is the difference between these options and which is the better to use?

Bing ranking my non-www version of my site.
My site is ranking #1 on Bing for the non-www version of my homepage, but this is not showing in my ranking stats, since the site is setup in SEOMOZ as www version. Do I have to create a whole new campaign for the non-www version or is there a way to pickup these rankings?
