I rank well in google but poorly in Yahoo
-
Why is this the case? If there is a filter or penalty on my site from yahoo, how do I ask yahoo to correct this?
-
Okay take this with a pinch of salt because this is quite old information and things do change quickly in this business. Yahoo used to value pages over domains, so if you had the 'best' page on a subject that is what would count, the information on the domain itself was largely irrelevant, and this may still be the case. Google has a more holistic approach, considering the domain as a whole.
This may be what is causing the difference. As Andy says they all have their own algorithms and ways of judging a site, and this is just a symptom of that.
It's not really a reason to worry though Google is still the largest player (certainly in the West and especially the EU) and exposure on there will likely help push your rankings on the other search engines up as well over time.
Lets face it, if you're doing well in Google you're ahead of the game, you've done well. For the time being just keep doing what you're doing.

iNet SEO is right! Carry on with the best practices. I wouldn't worry too much about not ranking well in Yahoo. If you were ranking well in Yahoo and not Google then I would panic.
Depending on which country you are in may make a difference. If you're in the UK Google dominates hugely. I think Yahoo has around 5% search engine market share here. So although it would be nice to rank well in Google - all is not lost!
-
You can't ask Yahoo to do anything about it. Each SE will have their own algorithm which will mean results differ. You optimise for one, another will suffer.
My advise is just carry on following standard guidelines for a well designed site, keep it fresh with good, strong content and be active in Social Media, as the SE's do use Twitter and Facebook as metrics.
Good backlinks are always going to help, but you need to have something good there for them to want to.
Regards,
Andy

Ranking fluctuation
Has anybody got any ideas? I have a website that ranks quite well for an industry keyword, the site has a reasonable amount of authority. But the term is fluctuating between position 3 and position 9! It is on a beefy stable server. It is reasonably well optimised from both SEO and speed point of view. It is tracked using Moz RankTracker. I do realise that rankings fluctuate, but this is ridiculous!

Top-10 ranked site dropping in/out of Google index?
I work for a company that makes an important product in a category. The company has a website (www.company.org); the product is at www.company.org/product. We recently (early May) redesigned and rearchitected the product site for SEO purposes. The company site talks about the category a bit (imagine the Colgate site; it talks about "toothpaste" a bit). The blog (blog.company.org/product) also talks about the category quite a bit (and links to the company site of course). The product is a major product in the category, among the top 3. The site and blog have been around for 15+ years. The site has appx. a billion backlinks, most branded links to the product. It's in the top 50 highest ranked sites among all sites on the internet in the ahrefs rank index. Imagine you are searching for our product category, "category". If you search for "category" in Bing today, my company's site is the 3rd result, and it's the 1st result from a company that makes a product in this category. If you search for "category" in Google today, our site is not in the top 150 results. In fact, the site keeps dropping out of Google's index. (See attached for what that looks like in the search console.) What might cause a site to jump from "ranked in top 10" to "not ranked" in Google -- back and forth every couple of days? Penalties? Our recent (early May) site rearchitecture? We're not making giant, index-shifting changes every day. wE0Bn

Google Places: Multiple company listings. How to rank the HQ page over a branch location.
Hi Moz experts! I have a client with Google Place listings for multiple branch locations and for some reason the fully SEO optimized Head Office listing is being beaten by an un-optimized branch listing. The HQ listing gets a tonne of traffic where as the ranking and unoptimized branch location doesn't and is the main listing when searching through Google. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Homepage bombed from rankings
I'm working on a site that has historically had issues ranking the homepage. We cleaned up some on page issues and then it went into a high and low pattern - page 4 then page 12 etc (was static around page 9 before), settling at page 6. The link profile was not good and there were a high level of links that should have been no-follow as they were clearly looking paid for - we addressed this along with some other poor links. This effectively dropped ranking down to page 23, but not unexpected considering the very big drop in followed links. Meanwhile we have embarked on a fresh steady link building strategy with nice clean links, varied anchor text coming from varying DA domains, smattered with a few no-follow links - strongly focussing on being as natural as possible. At the Penguin update the homepage has totally disappeared. Frustratingly just after the update (same day) we removed a 301ed old domain from the profile. This was the old company URL which we discovered had a lot of spam linking associated with it. An oversight - there were other 301 domains that were removed some time ago which were totally unrelated to the main site and we were told all other domains were simply bought and redirected to stop hijacking - all but this were. Considering the work we have done would it be good assumption this domain 301 could be the underlying factor? So far organic traffic is steady, in fact a tad up. What would you guys do?

Site Indexed by Google but not Bing or Yahoo
Hi, I have a site that is indexed (and ranking very well) in Google, but when I do a "site:www.domain.com" search in Bing and Yahoo it is not showing up. The team that purchased the domain a while back has no idea if it was indexed by Bing or Yahoo at the time of purchase. Just wondering if there is anything that might be preventing it from being indexed? Also, Im going to submit an index request, are there any other things I can do to get it picked up?
