BBB.org Listings and Local Rankings
-
So I joined the BBB for 1 of 3 stores we have located in difference cities and states.
My local rankings dropped in all cities except the one that's registered with the BBB. Coincidence?
Anyone experienced something similar?

Hi Schmeetz, Thanks for clarifying that we are talking about a drop of your Local Organic rankings and not your Place Page. Obviously, the biggest shakeup happening right now is what's being called Panda 3.2. See: http://searchengineland.com/google-panda-3-2-update-confirmed-109321 Is there any chance you've got thin or duplicate content on your city landing pages?

Don't care so much for the BBB, I just liked the strong local backlink.
Google's algo takes into account BBB as a local signal. Maybe an algo change took effect at the same time and that's the link that prevented the drop. It's the only store that did not drop significantly in the rankings. Page one to page 3 type drop. No way to really determine.
Rankings dropped for my sites store locations pages and not my Google places listings.

Greetings Shmeetz,
I'm the Local SEO Associate here in Q&A. While I don't have the highest opinion of the BBB (see: http://blumenthals.com/blog/2010/10/07/google-better-business-bureau-ratings/) I would be very surprised if your ranking drop had anything to do with your signing up in the one city. I've not heard of anything like this...the BBB really wouldn't have the power to alter Google's algorithm in the manner you are describing. Your questions is definitely interesting, but I'd say what you've observed is a coincidence, and that you'll need to investigate other possibilities for your ranking drop.
Have you made edits to your Google Place Pages recently?
Are you being affected by the new 3-pack rollout/test that is just now being observed?
Have competitors hired Local SEOs who are moving them forward while you are falling backward?
Could you be suffering from a penalty due to a violation or bug?
That's just a start. I'll look forward to contributions from other members to this discussion. Good luck!

External Ranking Help
Hello, I am working on the following website: completesteamclean.ca and I have reached a plateau on how to increase my ranking to defeat my two top competitors. When I run competitive link metrics it would appear that where I seem to be lacking is in external links and linking root domains. Does anyone have any tips on how I can build these areas of the website? Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Do the bots crawl the top of the page first - directory listing question
Hi all, I've purchased a link from a good PR4 website, but they added my link to the bottom of a lengthy page. They offered to up-sell me to get to the top of the page, where I'll be 10 or 12 links down. One of my direct competitors is at the top, so I'm happy with the directory choice (they spank me in rankings). The only reason I'm on this directory is to purely capture link juice. So knowing all of that, my question is, should I go ahead and pay to be on the top, assuming that Google bots crawl a page from the top down? It's important to me for the bot to log this link quickly. Or is paying to be at the top pointless, because the bot will just as quickly crawl to the bottom of the page and pick up the link anyway? Thanks! T

Does Google drop links from page rank N/A sources?
Hi Everyone,
Link Building | | AMA-DataSet
I've started doing some link analysis on one of my site that has over nearly 800 links in total (which I got from the webmaster tools downloading the latest links). When I go on to Google and use the "link:www.mysite.com" directive it will only display 12 links. Does this mean Google is only counting 12 links from the link profile? Iv checked the freshness of some the links it wasn't displaying within Google to check they hadn't all expired. Links from march 2013 still don't appear. This sites link profile has been untouched for at least a year now and is full of directories many of which have a page rank of N/A hence my question. (I'm surprised it hasn't been hit by penguin!) Thanks in advance.0 -
Why is my Page Rank 0.
Hi, I am trying to understand why my Page Rank is 0. Many forums say that it is because my site has been blocked by google. Any help with this would be much appreciated. http://davincidrivers.com

Is there a crowd-sourced and up-to-date list of do-follow social bookmarking sites?
It's always frustrating to do a search for something like "do-follow social bookmarking sites", find a list and then find out through trial/error that many of them have switched to no-follow, are no longer around, etc. That's why I thought a crowd-sourced list might be more interesting and up-to-date. Any thoughts?
