What is the Best Way to Become a Guest Blogger?
-
What have you found to be the best way to convince quality blog sites with authority to let you become a guest blogger for their site?
I know that providing samples of quality writing is key. But other than that, what is the best way "in"?
I have a handful of quality writers at my disposal and also write myself, but I'm trying to find effective ways of convincing established blogs to let me write for them.
Please send me your best, most creative suggestions! What has worked for you?
Thank you,
Afshin

In regards to mentioning you are going to link to your site, I like this quote a lot: http://www.seomoz.org/img/upload/graywolf-tweet.png

I tend to be as upfront as I can. In most niches there are masses of guest writing opportunities, so the costs are largely outreach time. The less of everyone's time you waste the better - you get to contact more opportunities and they don't get annoyed!
I'd tend to include sample links in the articles I send, if that is the route taken. If not I'll mention it in the email.
However the approach depends a little on the overall approach you are taking. If you are targeting sites that already have guest blogs there is no need to spell it out. If you are targeting people you have already built a relationship with you can often be more blunt, etc.

Hi applesofgold,
Some good advice here. I would agree with EGOL that the best approach is to find people who are already open to guest bloggers.
The easiest and most productive way of doing this is to use a service whose aim is to provide connections between those producing content or leads and those who need them.
Some of these are mentioned in Mike Scanlin's blog post How To Get The Equivalent Of $100K In PPC Ads For Free (and the comments). Those mentioned in the post include Blogger Link Up, My Blog Guest and Haro. I also like Source Bottle and find it really convenient that calls for articles and sources are easily accessible via their Twitter feed.
Hope that helps,
Sha

Here is an observation and then a suggestion....
**Observation: ** A person who owns a successful blog or website get lots of crappy articles sent to her by people who are simply trying to market their crap to her audience or take advantage of her success in some way.
That's just a warning to let you know that your offer to this person better be mighty good and look like she is going to gain a lot more out of the deal than you will. That means your content better be spectacular.
**Suggestion: ** Find someone who already accepts guest bloggers or who has multiple contributors to their blog. If a blog or a website does not already have guests or multiple authors there is probably a reason. Don't waste your time trying to change people's thinking.
When you find some potential blogs or websites send them an article or an infographic or a blog post that they can publish and know that it will not be duplicated anywhere else on the web. Be sure it is good enough that the blogger will get more out of the deal than you will. If you don't have that you will not get a deal because other people are not going to go on a crusade for your brand.

Thanks, Mat. I sent out 4 requests yesterday to quality related blogs by simply emailing them and showing them a sample of my writing and letting them know what I had in mind.
I did mention that I would put our link in the "author bio". Is this is a turn-off for potential blogs to mention right away? Or should I try to "hook" their interest before mentioning this. I've noticed that guest bloggers that have approached me have not mentioned this until after I ask them what their terms are.
Thanks,
Afshin

This sounds trite, but the best way is "try".
People are more receptive to guest blogging that you might imagine. If you can initially hook their interest and stand out from the offshore junk peddlers, and have some decent content at hand then you are heading the right way.

Best practice for Wordpress /page/2/
I realize that it might be a minor point but it still bugs me. We have a blog with a number of posts. Content of the posts does not expire or age (in the rare case something changes, we do update the information in the posts). The wordpress blog is setup to display our latest posts and displays 15 posts at once. Since we have a lot of content, the older posts get pushed off the front page which is understandable and desirable behavior. However the pages that have older posts have names like "/page/2/", /page/3/, /page/4/ and so on. This does not look very SEO or user friendly to me. What do you think? Did you come up with something better then /page/ and then a number?

My first Guest post. Well, it's about quality!
I've started my new blog two months ago. I thought about two things: quality and authority. So, I started with high-quality content and let me tell you that based on my own experience, quality is the queen of all this. Now, my new blog reaches roughly 270 unique users each day that generate 811 daily page views (1% from Google, %0.3 from other search engines, 56% from social media, 28% from links, 14% direct, 0.7% spammy sites). Alexa Global: 1,238,771 Then I've started the author journey trying to write guest posts on high-quality blogs. I found that there're two options to do guest blogging. Writing an article medium-quality and keep the high-quality content for my blog. Or, providing a high-quality content under any post that comes with my name. I found a high-quality blog which may accept my article. So, I thought about the two options and then I decided to provide a very high-quality content and I did. The message which I received about my article was so amazing. I had some grammars mistakes and they said literally: "We didn't mind as much doing the editing since you put so much effort into providing our readers with excellent content!" I'm so happy really and based on this experience I recommend you to think about the authority more than the link. What will make you provide high-quality content under your name instead of keeping it only for your blog. Have an experience with guest blogging? Why don't you share it with us to help others as well?

I work on a uk decorating website with five of our own bloggers all of which reside on the home page of the website on their own separete blogging urls as sub domains - is this a good idea or would google not like this from an seo point of view?
Should blogs that are part of an overall content site be on separate sites and link in or is it ok to promote them as content on the home page of the site and take users off to their own url to view the site. Is this good practise for seo?

Are reciprocal internal links weaker than one way?
Hi guys I have an eCommerce site and a blog. the blog is on a suddomain. I am writing content about our products on the blog, I.e. Full in depth reviews and top 10 lists etc. These blog posts link back to the main product page. It would also be nice for customers on the site to a "blogs about this product" section. However, would a link from the product page to the blog weaken the internal link from the blog to the product? Thanks Paul

Is there a way to repost content (with permission) to another site without being penalized by Google?
I write a monthly Social Media Marketing column for a local Business Journal and the column is printed in their paper as well as posted on their website. Is there any way I can repost these articles on my website's blog without being penalized by Google for "duplicate content"?

Best way to avoid duplicate content issues here.
I am planning to write an article that refutes some claims made in another article. The original article is a 20 page pdf. What I plan to do is to take quotes from this PDF and then under each quote write my arguments for or against the quote. If I take direct quotes from the article, is Google likely to see this as duplicate content?
