Optimizing the HomePage of a WordPress blog
-
Dearest SEOmozzers,
I am creating WordPress blogs and I would like to know from a WordPress expert how to better optimize the homepage of a site.
In particular, I'd like to know how to create an SEO-friendly homepage that I want to optimize for certain keywords. Do you think that it is better to show on the homepage the posts that I write, which change constantly, or a static, well-optimized text that will include the keywords I want to rank for? I have been naively using the changing posts, but after an analysis of the competitors I have noticed that most of them use a static text and show only the most recent post at the bottom of the page.
I'd really appreciate it if you could let me know the best practice to adopt to optimize the site.
Thank you.

Hi Sal,
One way that works is to create a sticky post which always stays at the top. So it will be the first paragraph or so of text on the page. You can have your keywords in it, and it can be used to convey the most important message to your visitors.
Most important is the content in my opinion.
Cheers,

You are going to want fresh content on your website, so having a small snippet of your blog posts could assist in that. However, having too much of the post could potentially dilute your overall content on that page.

I run 2 wordpress blog sites - 1 where the home page is static, and the other has a home page that is updated with at least one new post per day.
Both sites rank very well, and on the day a post is made live, typically about 4 hours later, I can find that post on the first page in Google. Of course, both sites have been online over 4 years each, so there is some trust that has been earned.
You should do what makes the most sense for your readers. If the site is about content that changes frequently, then it might make sense to use those posts as the home page.
Good luck!

Setting up redirects from non wordpress
Hi, we are rebuilding our site which was built on WordPress. The old permalink structure was /%post_id%/%postname%/ The new site is a custom build (not Wordpress), however, we are using WordPress for blog posts. The URL structure is www.customewebsite/blog/ As the custom site is not WordPress, we do not know how to create a redirect to push the WordPress url /%post_id%/ to the /blog section of the new site. What we currently get is page not found. Can anyone help with the htaccess redirect code? Many thanks one and all.

Blog - subdomain vs. subfolderq
Hi everyone I work on an ecommerce site and I'm trying to get more content together for the site & blog. The development team want to put the blog we have on a subdomain of our site, my question is - what is better for SEO Subfolder vs. subdomain I've read a couple of articles to say subfolder is better and a subdomain needs a lot of management to build up authority itself? Thanks!

Does Google hate wordpress?
I have my categories pages set to noindex, follow. I deactivated the author and date based archives, and all the /page/2 /page/3 are noindex. Is this the right approach? I had thought about adding some text to the topic of each category page and then changing them to index. I'm using showing recent post excerpts on the homepage. Another other suggestions? I think two of my sites are in panda for no good reason. It seems like non-wordpress blogs in my industry do better than comparable wordpress sites.
