Can Javascript be SEO friendly?

Is some Javascript SEO friendly?
I know that Google Webmaster Guidelines states you should avoid the use of Javascript, (http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=35769), but does any one know if Google can read some Javascript or generally not?
-
That is correct.
-
Thank you. How would you best test if Google can read the copy included in a javascript file?
Would you just use a text browser as mentioned?
-
Hi Michelleh,JavaScript is not SEO friendly. You can find this statement all over the web.
Now a days Google is much smarter at dealing with JavaScript. Google can execute some JavaScript, but not all. This effectively means that Google Spiders can read JavaScript and have become smarter at knowing which forms to execute and read, and which parts to leave alone. It seems certain that as long as websites continue to use JavaScript, Google will continue to refine its ability to read the language.
Google Spiders can read JavaScript -- but only to a limited extent. Nonetheless, Google Spiders may read and execute some of the JavaScript embedded in your XHTML or elsewhere on your site. As with most things related to how Google ranks websites and reads pages, the exact extent of how the Google Spiders crawl and use the data is unknown.
Google can now use JavaScript for indexing. For more information please refer to this link:

First, I cannot find in the link provided by you where GWMT says "Avoid the use of Javascript."
And, I do not think that is really their position. (Given they have indexed it for some time now). Here is a great description by a level 10 on GWMT:
My own opinion of JS has always been ( because it can be disabled by a browser ) that you should use it to supplement user experience, and don't rely on it to render content that's important to be seen and used.
If someone has JS enabled - great - they benefit from the useability it provides, while if someone choose not have it enabled ( fear of viruses or malware ), they still receive the intended product/service delivered to them.
So, Is it SEO friendly per se?? Don't know that it is, but do not believe it hampers SEO. If user experience is improved it would be an SEO plus.
Hope it helps.

Brightcove SEO Best Practices?
My company has decided to go with Brightcove as a video platform so we can better monetize all of the video content we create and better customize the experience as well. We have a pretty decent YouTube presence, and I won't let them stop using that because it would totally alienate us from part of our audience. So I was hoping someone could help me with the following: Are we able to keep videos hosted on YouTube as well as Brightcove without any risk of duplicate content? If we use the Brightcove player to embed videos in our on-site content, are we hindering potential organic search visibility? On the embeds, it's looking like it's using an iframe in our content (https://www.leafly.com/news/cannabis-101/sativa-indica-and-hybrid-whats-the-difference-between-cannabis-ty) - We're using a Brightcove WP plugin for the embed, but I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on a better way to implement/if this is even an issue at all. Are there any other general best practices/insights anyone has working with this platform? I found this article on their site, but I was wondering if there was anything else I should consider. Thank you in advance for any insights/answers!

Seo for international sites
Hello, I have a question for the group, our main US site- http://www.datacard.com is utilized to move content to other regional sites like http://www.datacard.co.uk/ and http://www.datacard.fr/ and http://www.datacard.com.br/. Anyhow, we essentially have some regional content on those sites, but for ease of maintaining and updating the content we have a company translate this for us and then undergo an in country review for local people in our company to review the content. That being said the meta descriptions, titles, code, everything gets translated to that language. I know there are issue for SEO for these purposes as we get much better rankings with http://www.datacard.com. The regional sites are newer so this could be part of it. We don't have an agency helping us with SEo and i get a lot of questions on what can be done internally for this for regional sites with our current structure. Any tips you have? It would be greatly appreciated! Laura

Is tabbed content bad for SEO?
I work for a Theater show listings and ticketing website. In our show listings pages (e.g. http://www.theatermania.com/broadway/this-is-our-youth_302998/) we split our content into separate tabs (overview, pricing and show dates, cast, and video). Are we shooting ourselves in the foot by separating the content? Are we better served with keeping it all in a single page? Thanks so much!

What is the best way to learn SEO?
I was wondering if it's worth taking an SEO Training course. If so is it better to take a live class or Online class. Or is better to just read all the SEO Books out there? Or is there a good video series anyone can recommend? What is the best way to learn SEO? I have a good understanding of SEO but I'm not a Pro ( Yet ). Obviously SEO is always evolving so even the Pro's are constantly updating their skill set but I want to make sure my foundation is solid and complete. Advice Please. Thank you all.

A very basic seo question
Sorry, been a long day and wanted a second opinion on this please.... I am developing an affiliate store which will have dozens of products in each category. We will not be indexing the product pages themselves as they are all duplicate content. The plan is to have just the first page of the category results indexed as this will have unique content about the products in that section. The later pagnated pages (ie pages 2,3,4,5 etc) will have 12 products on each but no unique content. Would the best advice be to add a canonical tag to all pages in the 'chairs' category pointing to the page with the first 12 results and the descriptions? This would ensure that the visitors are able to browse many pages of product but google won't index products 13 and onwards. Am I right in my thinkings? A supplemental question. What is the best way to block google from indexing/crawling 90,000 product listings which are pulled direct from the merchant so are not unique in the least. I have previous played with banning google from the product folder but it reports health issues in webmaster tools. Would the best route be a no index tag on all the product pages and to no follow all the products in the category listings? Many thanks Carl
