Facebook referrals
-
Does anyone know how to find this out. When I use Google Analytics to monitor a website, I am receiving referrals from Facebook, but it does not tell me the source on Facebook. Only that it is coming from Facebook somewhere.

You can see where visitors come from using different links and tracking them with google (http://support.google.com/googleanalytics/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=55578).
Each posto on Facebook => unique link tracked by google. It's quite easy to do if you don't write thousands post a day!

If you do use URL tagging when you share posts, you may be able to find out which URLs are doing well. For example if you tag your twitter shares and FB shares differently, then see if those are the ones getting shared on FB.
Also, don't forget to add FB insights for your site as well. You don't get referral traffic specifically but you do get a lot of additional information about the content on your site, as opposed to what you share on your page. You can get more info about it here: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/4-facebook-marketing-tactics-you-might-not-know-about.
Plus, most people see posts in their feed and not necessarily from specific pages, so this may also be why FB shows it all coming from one page.
Hope this helps a bit!

No. I have no control or idea where the links to the website are coming from on Facebook. They are not coming from the website FB Business page. Plus the numbers are to large for it to be just a person sharing the link. It must be another social page.
Interesting about Facebook filtering outbound links. I would have though it would have been the other way around.
I will keep investigating.
Thank you for your thoughts.

Hmm, most of the content on Facebook is being served up dynamically without a resultant change to the URL. That might explain why you are seeing most of the referral visits coming from /l.php which appears to be what Facebook filters all outbound links through. I see "/l.php" as the largest Facebook source in my reports as well. Do you have control over the links of yours that are being posted on Facebook?
If so, maybe some tagging of the URLs will give you a bit more tracking visibility -- http://support.google.com/googleanalytics/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=55578

Nope, I have tried this with the new interface. It does not tell me the actual FB Page. Just the referral Path as /l.php which seems to be an error.
I just want to know what page inside FB the link is being posted.
Thanks

If you navigate to Traffic Sources > Sources > Referrals > Facebook within Google Analytics (new Google Analytics interface) you can see where your visits are coming from within Facebook at the Facebook referring URL level. What level of granularity are you looking for?

Google Analytics - Referral traffic being reported as Direct traffic
Hi, I have a link on my www homepage to another subdomain website. Both websites are served on https, and have independent Google Analytics properties. However, the traffic from the www site to the subdomain site is being reported as Direct, and not Referral traffic. Any ideas why? See image provided for context... RCn6HER

.com site referral traffic to ccTLDs
We have 7 international domains set up along with our main .com site. All of the ccTLds are showing their main referral traffic as coming from the .com site in GA, and most of those being from mobile. Each site is set up correctly with geo-targeting and hreflang tags. Has anyone experienced this before?

Drop in google.com / referral trafic
Hi, On one of our sites (after the release of a new version, including redirections), we've seen a drop in referral trafic from google.fr (france). I know that this trafic usually comes from Google Images but it doesnt seem to be the case this time. The referal path is "/" and not "imgres" as it usually is when it comes from google images. The search trafic hasnt dropped tough... The site is a job listing site. We also saw a drop from indeed.com, I guess their crawler got lost in our new site... Any idea on the possible google site it could come from? Thank you,

Referral exclusion not working with GTM?
Hi, how are you?
Reporting & Analytics | | arielbortz
I have my website with Google Tag Manager implemented. Google Analytics is one of the tags I have configured. The problem is that Referral exclusions aren't working for me. I excluded 3 domains, and I keep seeing them in my Referral Traffic report.
Any idea why this could be happening? Best wishes,

Drop in google referral traffic
Hi guys, As we know, GA shows google as traffic source in two ways: google / organic for organic searches and google.TLD / referral for everything else: google groups, base.google.com, static pages, google reader, google image search, google search appliance/mini. What we noticed is that around Oct 20th there's a huge drop of google.TLD / referral traffic to our site. Do you experience something similar? I couldn't find anything Google-related that happened around this specific date. We use GSA for our site search and I'm wondering if this could be the reason - maybe someone from our development team made changes to GSA settings that affected this traffic source. Looking forward to hearing from you! Thanks.

Can I implement Facebook insights to GA?
Hi, I would like to know if anyone knows of a function where I can implement my facebooks insights of my fanpage to my google Analytics account. I want to be able to manage all my tracking through one software (GA) so that it is easier for me to see the correlations. Thanks a bunch,

Will having a subdomain cause referral traffic from the domain name?
Hi! One of our clients has a site with the store on a subdomain: store.example.com. When we've set up goals for order confirmation pages, we often see most of the sources attributed to example.com. Is this because of the subdomain issue? How would we correct it so that we would see as the referring source for the goal the site that sent to the root domain originally, and not the site that sent to the subdomain? Thanks!
