Difference between Seomoz Competitive Domain Analysis and OSE link data?
-
Any reason these numbers are so much different?
SeoMoz Competitive Domain Analysis:
Followed Linking Root Romains: 288
Total Linking Root Domains: 338Open Site Explorer
Linking ROot Romains: 127 -
I thumbed up Brent's answer, because that is typically the case. It's super easy to go into OSE and look at metrics to a domain either with or without the "www" when you meant to do the opposite. So when the numbers don't match up this is the first thing I check.
Also, OSE tends to update faster than the Competitive Domain Analysis, so occasionally there is a lag time of about a week. In this case however, the numbers are so far off I suspect this is not the case.
Let us know if we can be of any help. Thanks!

I would guess that you are looking at two different metrics. Are you looking at the sub domain, or root domain (not what is coming in, but the page that is being analyzed)?
www.example.com (sub domain)
or
example.com (root domain)
or page specific.

Competitor Analysis (help!)
Hey everyone, I'm working on keyword research, and am at the point of going through my list and doing some competitive analysis to figure out which phrases are viable as far as competition goes. What methods are you currently using? As of now, we've been manually searching the phrase in Google, and using the Moz toolbar to check the metrics, backlinks, domain authority etc. I remember before the Adwords integration with Moz was removed, there was a more efficient way to do this using the keyword difficulty tool. Any guidance/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

SEOMOZ Crawl Test
Guys I really have an issue that i know have but cannot see if that makes sense. Basically 3 months ago i did a site wide 301 from economyleasinguk.co.uk to www.economy-car-leasing.co.uk Every thing looks good get all the correct header responses , all canonicals work perfectly , Google webmaster tools is updated fetch as google bot shows the old site is 301 I tried the seomoz crawl test today on the old domain and got this message Oh no! Looks like the page you were trying to access is temporarily down which at first thought ok because the site was not there it wont do it on an old 301 domain, however i tried it on a domain i know has just been 301'd and i got this message The URL http://www.site1.com/ redirects to http://site2.com/. Do you want to crawl http://site2.com/ instead?

Would you like to:
Continue with www.site1.com
Continue with site2.com I really do not know what to do, its either the redirect script is missing something however its doing what it should or the server is a problem but again its doing what it should so why would SEOMOZ not be able to crawl the old URL like it example site above. Now the strange thing is Open Site Explorer does see the 301 and asks if i want to check the new URL instead Ps the redirect is done using PHP redirect which i am asking him to change to a htaccess as its now on a apache server and was wondering if this could be an issue, all pages go to correct pages as requested Thanks in Advance1 -
Discrepancy in OSE data
When I look up a domain in OSE, it shows that there are 3K+ links from 349 domains. However, when I download the CSV, I only see around 1,500 links. Why the discrepancy?

In open site explorer, why are subdomain stats different to domain stats?
Hello there I have just compared some sites in Open Site Explorer. The page domain, subdomain and domain stats are all different. I get the difference between page and domain stats. But why are the subdomain stats different? There are no subdomains on the site so I expected them to be the same. What is my confused brain missing??? Many thanks Wendy

I checked ose for the page authority of the serp page it was 50. would that page be helping the site in question to rank? or am I just dumb for asking this question One more thing I couldnt actually find a link to the page I was looking at in ose on the baidu result page.. thanks

Why Do Domain Link Metrics Differ in Keyword Difficulty Report vs OpenSiteExplorer
If anyone could shed some light on this that would be great. It seems as if the two tools are using different versions of the database?

Latest OSE Update - Strange Numbers and Links
Hey everyone. I just checked our website in OSE with the latest update and noticed some strange numbers. The number of linking domains skyrocketed from 300 to 785 which definitely caught me off guard. Like all good SEOers I work hard to get links, but in a typical month I usually get between 40 and 50. To suddenly jump up by over 300 seems odd. Digging deeper, I noticed that some of the incoming link domains could be considered less than trustworthy (pages filled with links), while others I couldn't find at all on the page in question. I also never ever asked for any of these links, nor did anyone on my team. Should I be worried? I've heard of websites who purposely gain bad links to their competitors in order to penalize them. Is there an easy way to find out if this is going on? Could this possibly be a problem with OSE and just reporting non-existant links? Thanks for your feedback! Andrew BTW, the website in question is www.gooverseas.com
