301 a strong but under-performing landing page to a new domain?
-
Hi guys,
Our website have a very strong landing page (PA 80, more than 1,000 domains linking) but is currently not ranking at all as the targeted terms are dominated by exact match domains.
We are thinking of redirecting this particular page to a new partial match domain targeting the same keywords.
Is it a good move?

Thumbed up Matt and Moosa - I think I'd make sure first that the PA/DA is telling the whole story. PA, for example, doesn't take into account possible Google devaluations or penalties (which we can't really measure). That PA of 80 may be over-estimated for a lot of reasons. It may be that you have a solid link profile, but your on-page targeting is lacking. There are a lot of ways to target without switching to a partial-match domain.
Now, would a partial-match domain help a bit? Probably, for now, but Google seems to be dialing that down slowly (exact-match domains really are too powerful, and are still being abused like crazy). Keep in mind, though, that the 301-redirect does carry risk, and may not transfer all of the link-juice. Also, if you 301-redirect just this one powerful page, it could impact your main site's Domain Authority and potentially harm your other rankings on that site (if that page has a huge concentration of the site's links).

Thanks guys for your suggestions. Really appreciate it.

My company has the Domain Authority and Page Authority of 80 but we are still not ranking on all the keywords that we should be ranking for… I know the case is not similar but what I want you to understand is the fact that DA or PA is a good way to understand the Authority of your page or domain but this is not everything there are other factors that counts that includes powerful content, social media value and obviously it also depends upon the strategy that websites are following above you and even more...
Redirecting the existing domain to a new domain can be a crazy idea and you might lose the trust of your audience or I would say it is too much depends upon the nature audience.
In the previous company my EX boss did a smart job by building a new unique website ‘website B’ contains similar services as ‘website A’. On ‘website B’ with the logo it says ‘Powered by website A’ and start push the website B with A, audience who had a trust on website A started to believe on B as well and slowly and gradually they move to make website B as their major website… (I would say long but effective process).
I would suggest not to move just like that but try to be slow and effective that should be love by your audience.

Hi
I would stick with making your website stronger rather than redirecting to a new partial match domain. I still think that if you work hard and develop excellent content across your site you will win out in the end. You can still improve things and an can I ask what your Domain Authority is currently? Website ranking isn't purely about the authority of a page on the site when it comes to beating exact match domains I have found. Of those 1,000 linking domains do you have some links with decent anchor text from authoritative sites in relation to your targeted terms?

4-5 New High Quality Links/Month, Enough to Increase Domain Authority?
The link profile on our domain is poor and our domain authority is only 18. In April we migrated domains and our domain authority tumbled from 24 to 8 and as of August had recovered to 18. Since August we have engaged in a link building campaign. We are getting 4-5 new links per month. They are good quality. Can we expect to see see an increase in our domain authority? If so, when? The domain is www.metro-manhattan.com. The new links to date are below: <colgroup><col width="114"><col width="252"><col width="377"><col width="296"><col width="97"></colgroup>

Can a move to a new domain (with 301's) shake off a google algorithm penalty
we have done everything under the sun using the holy grail of google guidelines to get our site back onto page 1 for our domain. we have recovered (penguin and panda) algorithm filters for keywords that were page 1 going to page 7 and now page 2. its been 2 years and we cant hit page 1 again. this is our final phase we cna think of.. do you thin kit will work if we move to a new domain. and how much traffic/rankings can we expect to lose in the short-term?

Better to 301 or de-index 403 pages
Google WMT recently found and called out a large number of old unpublished pages as access denied errors. The pages are tagged "noindex, follow." These old pages are in Google's index. At this point, would it better to 301 all these pages or submit an index removal request or what? Thanks... Darcy

How do i migrate from Volusion to Magento with the same domain using 301 redirect?
We are thinking about migrating our site from Volusion to Magento due to traffic reasons, our site's been growing and we're going way over the bandwidth limit (40gb) for Volusion every month. It only make sense for us to start on Magento CE where we can host it on our site and use our own bandwidth. We will be using the same domain, and changing our URLs to make things better (we were somewhat restricted by Volusion so we couldn't optimize some of our URL addresses). Here's comes the main question, since we are ranking pretty good for the keywords that we're targeting, we ABSOLUTELY DON'T want to lose any traffic or ranking from our pages, I know that there's something called the 301 redirect that we can use, but how can this be done? When we migrate the site, we will need to point our domain to Magento from Volusion, so basically Volusion store will be down... if we are changing domain names then the 301 redirect makes sense because we can have the original store live while it's redirecting to a completely new address. Is there any method to still setup this 301 redirect, or is there something else I can do to save our rankings??? Thanks in advance!

Should I start new domain and redirect site?
I recently my rankings for http://www.top-10-dating-reviews.com (some adult content) drop off a cliff. Google tells me there's no manual penalty therefore it might be algorithmic. I don't know why my rankings went but I think it could be that I added A LOT of category pages pulling the same content from posts and this could have caused both duplicate content issues and too many on page links causing an algo penalty. Ive deleted the categories and therefore fixed duplicate content issue (perhaps you guys could check out the site and see that you agree with me) but rankings have not improved even thougo most of the pages have been recrawled. I read somewhere its extremely hard to recover from such a penalty so should I move my site to a and domain and redirect all urls? I can't think of another solution. Any help appreciated!

Does google detect all updated page with new links
as paid links? Example: A PR 4 page updates the page a year later with new links. Does Google discredit these links as being fishy?

Have a problem with our home page. Is temporary 301 redirect an option?
Hey Mozers, I discovered this morning that the home page for my website is rendering fine in Chrome and Firefox, but very poorly in IE. My analytics show that over 50% of my visitors are using IE. As a result of the problem, IE has a bounce rate 32% higher than other browsers. I'm not a web developer and I'm fairly new to SEO, so I'm guessing that it's going to take me at least a couple days to get it fixed. In the meantime, I was considering doing a 301 redirect from the home page to the largest category page in hopes of keeping some of the IE users from bouncing while I get the home page sorted out. Would there be any long term negative effects from this once I get the page sorted out and take the 301 off it? Are there any other solutions that would be better? Thanks for the help!
