1 hr of SEO vs Paid Link

Can me paying an SEO firm $250 for one hour of work benefit me more than buying a lifetime link on Best of the Web for $249? ( Firm said I had to buy a min of 8 hrs though)
The firm strongly suggested that I not purchase a paid link. (All my major competitors have paid the $249)

Yes...I will end up doing both...because staying up until 4 or 5 AM many nights is not going to work for me in the long run.

We are a nationwide group with very little local traffic. I think I will probably start focusing on getting links from industry specific sites with good domain and page authority. I will also follow the link you suggested. I had no idea that good directories and blogs were under fire. Thanks!

They said 8 hours minimum for $250 an hour and then each hour thereafter it would just be at the same hourly rate. The would have been doing all the set up including keyword research. Seemed a little high...so I have been burning the candle at both ends to learn this stuff. Bought two new books yesterday ($70). If I new for sure that I would have the ultimate optimized site with the proper keywords it might be work it to me. I guess I just have to research the company more to find testimonials etc.

SEOmoz has this recommended list of directories and "BOTW.org" is the 15th best directory to purchase a link from out of 229 recommended sites. I just looked at the site and saw a bunch of my competitors on there. Since I only had 3 links I felt I need to purchase a couple. For the rest of the year I will just be linking to industry related sites. I have a feeling that these "good" directories will be okay as long as I get them in the proper ratio to my non paid links. Will probably take a hit right now because I bought two. Also got Business.com.

It depends on what that one hour of work will get you. Is that one hour of work total, or are they prepping with an audit then spending an hour to explain it to you?
What have they said you'll get out of that hour?

If he is debating the budget of 1hr or spending same $ for a paid link, he isnt hiring a firm. He is trying to get gains from a small investment. His time is better spent learning some basics. Most sites are so bad that simple changes and learning how to structure content can get him gains in the near future.

Yes & no, Learning is great for those that have time for it, but if he has already hired a firm then his time would be better spent on earning income through his own sources...At some point SEO like all things that require much time to learn needs to be left to those who can do more with that one hour then he can do in 3 months.

I feel that a GOOD SEO person will want you to focus on natural links & content as apposed to buying links that may very well be penalized in the next ... well whenever they are deindexed...
Yes, your competitors might be buying those links, but you will be happy when they do go down in flames and you rise to the SERPS because of it. If you are truly itching to buy links... then buy them from local merchant directories that are in your field, then at least you are advertising to people who live/work in your area...

What is your SEO firm asking you $250/hour for? I also cannot imagine what possible value you will get by paying $249 for a life time link on a directory unless it's dmoz.
The fact that your competitors paid the $249 might be an indication that the directory brings traffic that converts but even then I am curious to find out how you know that all your competitors are there? Did a rep from the site call you and tell you that or did you find out for yourself? Ultimately when it comes to SEO, paying for links is a big no no. With more info might be able to give better advice

Does adding more outgoing links on a high PA page decrease the juice passed to previous links?
Hi, I'm not sure how PA DA exactly works when the goal is to create backlinks to your site in order to have the most impact on passing PA DA juice (if there is such a thing) to ones money site. For example let's say you have a blog and the PA is 40 DA is 30. Let's say I create a backlink pointing to my site on the homepage of this blog, in which I desire better rankings for, and the links I created are only 1-3 outgoing links on this post which is again on the homepage. Then say in a months time, I want to add another post on the homepage (so the 40 PA and 30 DA stays the same) creating a backlink to one of my other money sites. Does adding this second round of backlinks result in sending less juice to the first? This is what I want to know. Thank you!

ok mozers i have a few questions. I am starting a new seo campaign and i want to target traffic for "how to make money on autopilot" Question 1. when it comes to link building i have seen some articles saying that i should not send all of my links to my landing page at once but to send links to my backlinks then index then using tiered link building. Is this a must or not? will i get penalized if i build 20 targeted links to my landing page in 1 day, lets say 20, pr7-9 domains? or should i tier it out and link maybe 5 pr9 domains to my landing page, then link 10 pr5 domains to each of those 5 pr9 domains and maybe link 20-pr1 domains to each of those tiered 2 pr5 domains? eq: Tier 1 = 5 PR-9 Tier 2 = 50 PR-5 Tier 3 = 1,000 PR-1 Question 2. Is their a certain amount of backlinks i need to use in order to out do my competitor? or does it just matter on the metrics of my backlinks? and when it comes to indexing these links do i need to index just the 5 pr9 links? or do i need to index all of them? or should i just index the landing page through google webmasters tools and hope it indexes all connecting pages? will doing any of these get my landing page indexed faster in order to rank faster? Question 3. Types of link building. Ok i am targeting guest blogs, wordpress sites, etc to put a link on. Should i focus on smm 'social media marketing' as well? or can i just focus on the traditional seo tactics first? Question 4. Keyword research. ok so my blog post is 'how to make money on autpilot' and from my keyword suggestion tools it picked up a list of keywords suggestions to target. Competition ranges from low to high, search volume ranges from 10 to 1900 visitors per month, after organizing the most relevant keywords to add to my campaign should i target each of the these keywords by creating a link building campaign for each one and target it to my landing page or use it as my 2nd or 3rd tier? those are the questions i really have for now. We killed our SEO, but how come some of our keywords are still in the top 1-3
I am looking for the answer for this interesting question: 1. I have a static page with NO information on it, this is almost completelyblank, only a search box on it, which does nothing! The information it contains is absolutely zero, but the page has got a specific URL which is = the keyword i will look for 2. And i have another page which is fully optimized with the help of on page grader (97%) for anoter specific keyword Q, in case of 1: Searching in google for a keyword which is = the page www.domain.hu/keyword, and i will have top 1-3 serp!???? (i say it again, the page contains no information...and the keyword is really frequent, in google adwords it says that this keyword which has got high competition) in case of 2. i have the /url which is completely the same as the keyword, have 97% on page grade, and i see that week by week i can only move upwards a little in the serp. Created unique content a lot, made several changes on this page and like no position changing. So the question is WHY in case 1 i can be with no information in (empty static page) top 1-3 for a really hard keyword, and why i cannot move upward on the list for a not so frequent keyword however i did everything i could??

International Domains for SEO
My company is international and we have websites for each country with Country Code Top Level Domains (ccTLD). I am in the US and I am seeing that other countries such as Costa Rica and Germany are ranking above us in search results. I thought Google automatically geo-targeted users by default and therefore I should only get .com or US results. Any idea why other countries would rank above our site?

Zenfolio set up for SEO
We are using zenfolio as a hosted photography/image gallery set up as http://oursite.zenfolio.com We have about 24,000 backlinks to the website however over 22,000 are from zenfolio.

Counting over-optimised links - do internal links count too?
To whit: In working out whether I've too many over-optimised links pointing to my homepage, do I look at just external links -- or also the links from my internal pages to my homepage? In other words, can a natural link profile from internal pages help dilute overoptimisation from external links?

Is the <a data-uri="">link SEO friendly?</a>
We've earned a great link from a popular website but it is in a strange format: <a data-uri="http:;;;;;;;;www.domain.com;;;;" target="_blank">blue widgets</a> It is still visible as a link from the web browsers, but I was wondering how will it perform in terms of SEO visibility and crawabillity? Any ideas?

Increasing Internal Links But Avoiding a Link Farm
I'm looking to create a page about Widgets and all of the more specific names for Widgets we sell: ABC Brand Widgets, XYZ Brand Widgets, Big Widgets, Small Widgets, Green Widgets, Blue Widgets, etc. I'd like my Widget page to give a brief explanation about each kind of Widget with a link deeper into my site that gives more detail and allows you to purchase. The problem is I have a lot of Widgets and this could get messy: ABC Green Widgets, Small XYZ Widgets, many combinations. I can see my Widget page teetering on being a link farm if I start throwing in all of these combos. So where should I stop? How much do I do? I've read more than 100 links on a page being considered a link farm, is that a hardline number or a general guideline?
