Domain Brokers and crazy prices!
-
Just emailed a domain broker about an EMD, looked like a nice short domain and thought a little site off this domain would work well.
Domain was a .co.uk, gets around 1,600 ems a month but specific to a service so no room to open it up, even still as a little site that would just turn over I was interested.
Say average price of service £50.
They come back with: Please make an high $X,XXX offer.
I reply: I could rank a non-emd (branded) domain using $XXX with guest blogging for the same term.
There logic for the price quoted: If you take £25 profit from each sale, you only need to sell 400 to make your money back.
This is coming from one of the largest domain brokers in the US.
What a silly way of valuing a domain.

They are just looking to find someone who is a sucker. Hold to your pricing and eventually they will crack. But at the end of the day something is worth what someone will pay. So it could be valued at that if they are able to find someone who is dumb.
So it really boils down to, is it worth it for branding? If not, don't get emotionally attached and move on to another domain.

Domain keyword ranking
I used to use Searchmetrics (years ago) which enabled me to add in the domain name into their website, and it would provide all the keywords that rank for it. Does Moz do that do you know? Thanks

Should I keep knowitall.biz domain name?
Basically wondering whether or not to keep this domain or start SEO with a new domain. The product is a tool that is somewhat comparable to evernote. Basically you can use this instead of searching your email (inefficent, and badly designed for storing personal/biz info). It is a tool that we developed in house for ourselves before evernote was around. At this point I need to figure out which keywords to target, so any suggestions with that would be much appreciated too!! Dave2

SEO'd Title Tag for Product Pricing Page with Little to No SV for Product Pricing Related Terminology
Hello, What should one do about a title tag for product pricing page (of a SaaS company)? The only keywords/phrases that have SV are "Acme Pricing" "Acme Product Pricing" and "Acme Solutions Pricing", but obviously I don't want to use all three since "Acme" and "Pricing" repeat in all three. Should the title tag just be "Acme Pricing"? In past experiences, a title tag that short typically gets changed by Google in SERPs. Should one not optimize the title tag at all? Any thoughts, suggestions, would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Two domains, a .ca and .com, for one company
Hey we are looking for some advice on this. We have two online shopping carts, a .ca and .com for our Canadian and American customers. The information on both is obviously very similar in both content and display, with just pricing, shipping information etc. being different. Does anyone have any feedback regarding how Google would view this? The domains are the same, ie. walmart.com and walmart.ca so would Google recognize this and not penalize us for having two identical sites or would it be penalizing us and should we be going about this in a different manner? Thanks!

Thoughts on exact match domains to keywords? If your domain isn't an exact match, do you recommend buying another domain and getting a 301 redirect?

Domain Name - Which is better?
I had a friend of mine ask me this question and I didn't really know how to go about answering. He wants to know if, for example, www.cardealer.net is better than www.car-dealer.com or vice-versa? Both seem to be interchangeable to me. I hate websites with dashes in them but obviously it is necessary in some cases... ".net" is not my favorite either. What would you recommend?

Should we change our site domain name to include our keyword?
Our niche has one keyword phrase that is much, much more active than any other comparable phrase. Let's call that phrase "math problems". Within this phrase, the "math" is absolutely the most important keyword, as it is also used in every spin-off search phrase, like "math answers", "math practice", etc. We've had our domain since 1996, and is currently the company name - "Rocketproblems.com". Over the last year (2010-2011) our SERPs have steadily dropped to the point where we're not getting a sustainable level of business from organic search, whereas in 2009 we were doing fantastic. However, we've also had "Rocketmathproblems.com" since about 2000, just gathering dust. What I've noticed from the top search results is that nearly every domain has either "math" or "math problems" in its URL. Do you think it's worth it to switch to the keyword-rich URL? It is a bit more verbose, and the "Rocketmathproblems.com" v.s. "Rocketproblems.com" example perfectly captures the different feeling. My inclination is that SEO is only becoming more competitive, and if we aren't getting worthwhile business from organic search at the moment then we should bite the bullet and make the switch for the future, along with ramping up our content generation. However, I also noticed that in late 2009 a previous webmaster switched to "Rogermath.com" but switched back within a month when our SERP for the key phrase was a page lower - I gleaned this from a Moz Juicy Keywords Report :). Thoughts?
