Inbound Link Discrepancy: Campaign vs Open Site Explorer
-
Hello,
I am getting starkly different inbound link amounts from Open Site Explorer and my Campaigns tab.
Domain 1
Campaigns: Total links = 10,895,942 Open Site Explorer - Links = 224,000Domain 2
Campaigns: Total links = 25,670,287
Open Site Explorer - Links = 157,000Why would these be so different?
For reference, the "Historical Domain Analysis" shows these sites getting exponentially more links starting in February. This is of concern to me. I didn't do anything different in February to get so many more links (especially not in the millions). If anything, I am hoping the "Campaigns" section is simply wrong about this.

Good call Francisco. I checked GWT and forums are driving an insane amount of links. I wonder why some tools capture this and some don't?
In any case, thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
-
That's a bit odd. Check your GWT links. Also make sure you are using the same domain: example.com vs www.example.com.
Millions of links? Check GWT and if there is something really suspicious, contact Google and tell them about what's happening. I don't know if you should tell them to devalue your links or what, but try to be as honest as you can.

Open Site Explorer: Facebook Shares, Likes, etc.
I don't fully understand what this means in the report for our site: http://screencast.com/t/aG5jbkYWLA here is our site: www.discountqueens.com & we have thousands of fans & facebook likes and all the time on all our posts. For example yesterday we had 73 likes on this post alone: http://www.discountqueens.com/amazon-ultimate-shrinky-dinks-jewelry-designer-1495/ So here's my questions: Is there an error in the reporting? Are we using a social sharing method that isn't giving us valid credit for these links? What should I consider doing differently & why isn't our likes, shares, tweets & Google+ being calculated into our score?

Can you explain social indicators in Open Site Explorer
My Google +'s for my domain were 403 last month and 35 this month.... Based on this I'm assuming OSE's numbers are not cumulative. Are they based on the previous month or a different time period? Any explanations would be helpful. Thanks!

Is there a feature i'm missing out on here? I want to download the complete link profile, but I only see 275 of 1,627 links when I export to CSV. Any guidance would be appreciated!

External Links through Open site explorer
I have just ran an Open site explorer query on our site due to having one of a constant ranking keywords drop, and found that we have 48 new links appear on the report under the anchor text 'home' These are not normal links, and I cannot see where or how these have been connected to our site for example: <colgroup span="1"><col span="1" width="696"></colgroup>

What are they? How can I get them removed, and let google know this was nothing to do with us? Thanks S |0 -
Why doesn't the BBB / Trustlink.org links show up in the Link Analysis?
I am curious why one of my client's main competitors (www.allbayhardwood.com) shows links from the Better Business Bureau and Trustlink.org (associated with BBB) but links from those sources do not show up for his domain (www.sanjosehardwoodfloors.com). He has been a BBB Acredited Business since 12/2010 and on file with them for probably as long as they have had the online version, which seems like plenty of time for the link to have been picked up. BBB has a very nice domain authority and it would be great to see these links show up. (they don't show up in webmaster tools either) Is there something I am missing? Thanks in advance guys and gals! (I know the site has other SEO issues - just getting started on pounding everything out.)

Will Open Site Explorer ever show number of links over time?
OSE is an amazing tool, but do you guys at SEOmoz have any plans to develop it so we can track numbers of links over time. I need to demonstrate to clients how the link building is going, and this would be a great quick report to see how many links you found on a given day, month, year, etc. A bit like magesticSEO backlink history graph, but better 🙂
