Alt Image Tags
-
Hi,
Do you think an alt image tag on an image as a link is going to impart the same juice or targeting as a link with a text anchor?
So, for example, if one made a clickable image link with the alt image tag of "bowling balls" would that do as much for you as the text "bowling balls" as the anchor link?
Thanks! Best...Michael

Yeh, at least 12 SEO years, if not 20, the way stuff changes.
I would imagine it hasn't changed a lot though, because SEOmoz still says that alt tags appear to carry a surprising amount of weight.

Hi Adam,
Thanks for the response. Yes, I saw that posting. It's a couple of years old at this point, which has got to be like 12 SEO years. I guess you feel nothing has changed on that subject?
Thanks, agian! Best...MJ

H tags
I am hearing all about the benefits of H tags and I tried to use them in my wordpress blog. The way I did, I used the paragraph drop down and made the selected text h1 or h2 , but size of these tags are huge . Can you help me what is the trick? Also, Can I have more than one H2 tag. For example my article title seems to be H1 by default(by the wordpress) then can I make just my subtitles in the body of the article H2. Then I will have for example 5 H2 sentences spreaded all over the body. Thanks

Title Tag Length
Here is my question, I know that after 70 characters or a certain pixel width. Google cuts off your title tag in the SERPS. I also know it will still index title tags up to 255 characters I think it is,. My question is if I have words or characters after the 70 characters limit. will this show up in the search? Or will Google only look at the first 70 characters in terms of relevance? I hope that makes sense thanks. Peter

Title tag question
Hi, Lets say you have these 2 title tags. 1. red paint, blue paint, green paint - CompanyName 2. red paint - CompanyName Does the longer title tag dilute the term 'red paint' when it comes to ranking? Basically out of the 2 which title tag would show the best results when trying to rank for the term 'red paint'. Cheers

Pinterest Images
6 weeks ago I opened a Pinterest account to promote our baby product website and help develop links. I established x3 categories/boards and pinned the relevant images to each board with the relavant (seofriendly) descriptions. These images show up clearly on my profile page, however if they search for them in the Pinterest search bar nothing shows up. For some reason Pinterets is not showing them in its search results. Can anyone help?

Tagged pages showing too many links
I'm confused - seo moz crawl shows I have lots of pages with too many links. 150 - 200 or so. I'm not sure how any of my pages can have that many links and they don't appear to to me. Here's an example: http://www.musicliveuk.com/tag/wedding-entertainment They all appear to be 'tag' pages. These pages are blocked by meta robots anyway so is this a problem and how do I fix it? I also am very confused by rel canonical. I have 300 odd pages with this warning. Is this good or bad? Plesae help!

IPTC information in JPEG images
I distribute a product in the US and I do my own product shoots. Some distributors in other countries use my images. I don't mind them using my images, but I would like for them to include all the IPTC data such as copyright and my URL. Is there any SEO benefit to me if these images on other sites include my URL, etc. Best,

Do image links with no alt tags pass link value?
"... an image link with no alt tag is useless to search engines..." according to a Nov 2007 seomoz blog post. Is this still the case in 2011? I ask because I'm about to obtain a banner link on a high-traffic site (chiefly for the clickthrough value) but I notice the site uses neither "title" nor "alt" tags.

No-Follow Tag and Advertising
Hiya! I've got a relatively new domain, and one of my goals is to be 100% white hat, squeaky clean as I really would love to see my site succeed in the long term. So far my linkbuilding efforts are going pretty well. I'm beginning to buy some ads, and some of the bloggers I'm buying ads from don't use advertising networks, they just host your jpeg from their own blog... For the little picture that will show up in the side column of their blog should this be no-followed? And if it's not do we know if google assigns a penalty? I'm ok with asking the blogger to do that, but I notice my competition is not (and I know they know better) so I feel like it puts me at a bit of a disadvantage. Secondly - I'm 100% avoiding sites that sell text links (even ones with high pagerank, like pagerank 6), is this the right path to go? I read this article from Matt Cutts and was wondering if this is still true, reputable sites that sell links maintain their pagerank but aren't able to pass pagerank? http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/text-links-and-pagerank/ "Reputable sites that sell links won’t have their search engine rankings or PageRank penalized–a search for [daily cal] would still return dailycal.org. However, link-selling sites can lose their ability to give reputation (e.g. PageRank and anchortext)."
