Infographic for SEO
-
How can an infographic be used for seo purposes? What tools should I use to create one or should I just outsource the work? How much does an infographic cost to make?
-
I would outsource it to a pro - but you don't necessarily need to pay a fortune, our agency offers infographic design, research and promotion for around $1,000 and we work with some of the biggest agencies and brands in the world (including Yoast, AOL, European Commission, PayPal, Ford, Experian, Orange, etc. etc).
With that said it's perfectly acceptable to design one yourself, just make sure you put in the proper time, care and effort and that you promote it as hard as you can.
Not only do infographics act as fantastic link bait, but they can facilitate some incredibly strong links via guest blogging - you'd be amazed at the strength of some of the links you can gain if you offer someone an exclusive, well design and well thought out infographic.
Thanks for linking to my post Keri - hopefully that will be of some use to you Joel : )

This post from YouMoz also has some helpful advice from someone who has created many infographics. http://www.seomoz.org/blog/indepth-guide-to-content-creation-with-infographic

Infographics done right make information more digestible. That tends to attract a lot of attention - especially if it's about a hot niche topic. For example, I'm a cycling fan - if someone did an infographic on the Giro d' Italia (a big bike race going on now) I'd be all over it. Put it in front of the right audience and it'll get re-shared a lot.
They're also helpful because there are lots of infographic directories/review sites out there. If you can submit your graphic to those, you gain some easy links.
If you then make the infographic embeddable, you can pick up a lot more links and re-shares as folks embed the infographic in their own blogs.
Creating a good infographic requires real expertise in data visualization. I strongly suggest hiring someone else to do it for you. Expect to pay $3,000 or more for a real pro. I've seen them offered for as little as $1,000, but generally those aren't data visualization folks - they may make something pretty, but it'll be hit-and-miss as far as a really great graphic.
If you are a good data person, then you might want to try creating your own infographic first. Use a tool like http://infogr.am/ . The worst case is that you have a sketch you can provide to a graphic designer to guide their final version. Best case, you discover you're an infographics artist at heart
Hope this helps!

I have no idea about outsourcing...but I have no training in graphics and little experience and was able to create a pretty decent infographic. This was back in March and I'm still seeing tremendous traffic from it today. It's also the highest pagerank page we have, and it gets about 4x the traffic of our homepage. However, I'm not sure about your niche, but I have found that nobody is converting to sales. It drives a lot of traffic which is great, but I'm not sure we've gotten 1 lead from the traffic it has generated. Not sure how to fix that, but thought I'd put that idea in your head.
Also, you asked about tools...I used Illustrator and Photoshop. Illustrator is a pain to get started with but look for some tutorials for graphs online and you'll find some pretty easy to make graphs that look really nice.
If you're not at all graphic minded, I'd look for someone on odesk.com to do the work for you. As it will take quite a bit of time if you want it to look good, and the graphics programs you need will be costly if you don't already have them like I did.

Content Advice for SEO Newbies
Hi all, I've been asked to put together a presentation as part of an internal series for marketers within the company that don't know much about SEO, but want to learn the basics and contribute. My topic for this one is on-page SEO/content marketing's role in SEO. I have lots of ideas for this already, but I thought I'd turn to the Moz forum to get some feedback and help me prioritize the points I hit. So, if you could give SEO newbies working on content for a company site, blog, etc. just one piece of advice, what would it be? Looking forward to seeing your responses. Thanks, Andrew

Enhancing SEO Between WordPress Blog and Company Website
My company has recently launched a new and improved website within the last couple months. Unfortunately, the web developers that we'd hired to build and create the site work very little with SEO, thus leaving me in the dark on where to direct any questions regarding the optimization of our web content. Along with the new website design, we've also rolled out a WordPress blog related to our firm. We do have the blog embedded onto a page of our website, and clicking on any title will redirect the viewer to our WordPress blog, hosted separately from our website. My question is this--how do you suggest I drive viewers from our blog to our website, rather than vice versa? Are there any applications, widgets, etc that you could recommend that would help me better associate the blog with our company? Any advice would help. Thanks!

Looking to hire an SEO/Reputation manager
We are looking to hire an SEO/reputation manager or firm to complement our existing marketing efforts. The goal is to take up the front page of Google on 3 branded keywords. We will create the content but need someone to come up with the strategy on what content to create, where to post it and how to link to get it moved to the front page of Google. We went through MOZ's recommended list of service providers but would rather work with an individual freelancer than a large SEO company. Please advice where we can find such consultant or email vitaly@newpeakmedia.com to apply. Include your experience and some samples of projects you have worked on. ################## UPDATE ################# Here's the keywords' difficulty based on MOZ's serp analysis tool and top 10 ranking pages for the first term http://i.imgur.com/zqktjuU.jpg http://i.imgur.com/LB7i4yz.jpg

Local SEO (UK)
Hi all, Question about 'local SEO' or 'Google Places' or whatever it is now called! 🙂 My day to day work is in house for a UK national travel agency and I pretty much know what is expected and what I need to do with regard to SEO. However, I have a friend who owns an 'upmarket' hair salon in my city of Sheffield (UK) and after a rebrand and a complete new website he has asked for my help with regard to 'local SEO' This is my dilemma, because the salon only wants to target the local area of Sheffield (5th largest city in UK with approximately 500k inhabitants) should I focus solely on 'Google Places' and if so, can anyone recommend any guides, books, or training that will give me an overview of what is required? I have previously 'touched' on citations and claiming the 'Google Place' but I could seriously do with a refresh! Many thanks Andy

What is The Time/Cost For SEO In Rebranding A Large Site
From an SEO agency perspective. What would be the estimated man hours and hard cost to rebrand a large site (1000+pages)? And all that would go into it, like 301 redirects and etc.? I have a pretty good idea, of what it would take and how perilous it could be from an SEO perspective. Because of anchor text / 301 redirects / organic potential traffic loss and etc. I just don't know the man hours and hard cost would be.

Do Dashes in Domain names hurt SEO ranking?
I have found conflicting reports online whether or not dashes in domain names hurt/help ranking. Example yourbrandonline.com vs your-brand-online.com? I found Rand's write up on how to select a domain and he suggests staying away from hyphens but mainly because its hard to remember or people my enter it in wrong. Here's his comment. "Reject Hyphens and Numbers
Branding | | JoshKimber
Both hyphens and numbers make it hard to give your domain name verbally and falls down on being easy to remember or type. I'd suggest not using spelled-out or roman numerals in domains, as both can be confusing and mistaken for the other." Aside from people possibly struggling to get there directly because of the domain name, are they OK to use? Or, are domains with hyphens considered spammy? Thanks in advance.1 -

Russian and Arabic SEO and Translation
Hi guys, We've a small 15 page site in English for renting out our own boat to tourists which seems to be especially popular with Russian and Arab visitors, so they are our priority languages for translation right now. We would like to translate our site into a condensed single page summary for each language of the services we offer for now and trying to make it rank in Russian/Arab serarch engines. I do some seo in English on our site and it's starting to rank well, but that's my only language, so I would definitely need to hire someone to do it for us in Russian and Arabic translation and related keyword phrases and how to rank in the search engines those countries most use etc. Can you recommend any companies for doing this russian-seo or arabic-seo stuff? Or any other advice.. Thanks!
