How do I redirect non-www to www in IIS?
-
There is a lot of talk about this all over this site (and other's), but just about every solution mentions using the .htaccess file, which is only a solution for Apache. My sites are in a shared windows environment, so that won't work for me. I have access to the IIS manager for the server, and have several page-level redirects in place.
My issue is that I cannot find a clear and easy way to re-direct my root (domain.com) domain, to my preferred specific domain (www.domain.com). I found a few articles online relating to a URL re-write module for IIS, but am not sure if I will be able to install that on a shared web server. Is there another way to accomplish my goal of not having 2 indexable versions of my site? I have rel-canonical tags on every page, but would prefer a more trustworthy and established solution.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Htaccess redirects
Annoyingly it's time to play with this beast again. I've been given the task of doing the following. Keeping the homepage live Redirecting categories to the specific categories on the new site Catch all redirects Now i've managed to setup the specific categories and the catch all redirects, however I am unsure how to keep the homepage live (which is like this:www.domain.com/ so I can't just exclude that?) Would appreciate any help.

Versions of same site with www, no www, ww, and w
It's just come to light that a couple of our clients have both www. and no www versions of their site, with no 301 in place. That's all fine, we're (trying) to get them to sort it. But, strangely, one of our clients not only has the www. and no www, but they also have ww., and w. - all showing their site as normal - the only difference being that the www. and no www are both PR 3 while all other versions are N/A. Does anyone have any idea what's going on/if it's a problem? Thanks very much 🙂

Redirect non-www if using canonical url?
I have setup my website to use canonical urls on each page to point to the page i wish Google to refer to. At the moment, my non-www domain name is not redirected to www domain. Is this required if i have setup the canonical urls? This is the tag i have on my index.php page rel="canonical" href="http://www.mydomain.com.au" /> If i browse to http://mydomain.com.au should the link juice pass to http://www.armourbackups.com.au? Will this solve duplicate content problems? Thanks

How to make multiple url redirection using global.asax in IIS 6?
sir, I am working with IIS 6 site and i ant to redirect three different urls of a domain to one url, i.e, there are the different versions of the same url...so how can i create one? I have found a script on google. but it says redirecting one url. see it here: Sub Application_BeginRequest(ByVal sender as Object, ByVal e as EventArgs) Try Dim requestedDomain As String = HttpContext.Current.Request.Url.ToString().toLower() If InStr(requestedDomain, "http://yoursite.com") Then requestedDomain = requestedDomain.Replace("http://yoursite.com", "http://www.yoursite.com") Response.Clear() Response.Status = "301 Moved Permanently" Response.AddHeader("Location", requestedDomain) Response.End() End If Catch ex As Exception Response.Write("Error in Global.asax :" & ex.Message) End Try End Sub

Question concerning a 302 Redirect
Hi! I've already done some research on redirects, but I still have a question concerning a 302 redirect implemented at the homepage of a website. The Website www.domainA.com has a 302 redirect to www.domainA.com/content/.... Also all subsequent pages have the /content/ directory in their URLs: e.g domainA.com/content/products First thing I was wondering about, was the use of a redirect to a new site using an additional directory /content/... Why would anyone do this? Would it be enough to replace the 302 with a 301 redirect, or would you recommend to change the entire structure and eliminate this /content/ directory? The most logical structure would be www.domainA.com/products/.., and not www.domainA.com/content/products, right? Second thing: Given that 302 means temporary redirect, what are the actual implications when redirecting from domainA.com to domainA.com/content? I've heard that 302 redirects don't pass linkjuice and are detrimental for the site's rankings... What are the actual implications concerning the example above (302 redirect from domainA.com to domainA.com/content ? Would be great to get some advice about the first problem and maybe some insights about the second one concerning 302s in general. Thanks in advance! Cheers, Chris
