Where To Start With High Budget Client
-
I hope some of you may be able to lend some advice here. We have secured a large client who has a considerable monthly SEO Budget.
The problem is this. They are in a competitive industry, the site is brand new, the brand name is pretty much unheard of but they have been backed by an angel investor and understand the importance of SEO.
Now the guys obviously want to see that there money is being spent wisely and they are getting ROI, even if not in immediate results certainly by effort we put into them.
Aside from having a small team initially going through there site to ensure that it is optimized to the best level it can be what would be your recommendations on getting this company off to the best start. Also they want to concentrate on natural search rather than PPC.
Without mentioning the name of the company they are a software developer for an innovative ticketing system.
Thanks in advance
Paul

Although you say the client is interested in organic search long term, something to consider if you have the budget is using PPC in the early stages of the campaign, for two reasons.
Firstly, the client can obviously use PPC advertising to bring traffic whilst they are waiting for the organic search traffic to grow, but secondly, can be using the PPC traffic data to help shape the SEO campaign.
After initial keyword research, the best way to discover the best converting keywords is to analyse the traffic received for each one. PPC will allow them to start making these judgements more quickly, which should reduce the SEO time (and money) spent on less effective phrases.

Spend the time doing this --> http://www.seomoz.org/blog/how-to-perform-the-worlds-greatest-seo-audit
Set up actionable methods and clear expectations on reporting not results. I go over "expected" results but I never say we "will be at this level" or something.
If funding allows it, get a consultation from a well established company like SEERinteractive or Distilled in order to get started on the right track with such a competitive market.
Most importantly, set expectations and do work. Keep at it and you will see some awesome results.

Facebook won't spend my ad budget. Any recommendations?
What do you do when Facebook won't spend your ad budget, no matter what you do or how high you bid? We've tested a large audience (2.2 million reach) under a single ad set versus many smaller ad sets with tighter targeting (50-150k reach). We've tested auto bidding versus manual bidding with bids as high as 1000% higher than Facebook's recommended bid. We've tested many versions of creative with and without text overlay and our relevance scores are high. Nothing seems to work. Our Facebook rep and Facebook technical support keep recommending to stay with one ad set and one ad, but that's not spending either. Most days we are getting less than 20% budget utilization. Has anyone experienced this situation before? Does anyone have any recommendations?

Client wants to promote his game for kickstarter
I have a client that wants to promote a game to get funding from kickstarter.com. I'm still pretty new to SEO although I already had some projects. But this project sound difficult to me as the SEO must be worldwide. Where would you start to help his campaign to earn visibility. Besides On-Page Optimization I thought social media marketing would be best to make his website known within a short period of time. What are your thoughts. Thanks for any suggestion! Marc

I have a client involved in a FB like for a like scheme. This sounds unethical to me and likely against FB rules. Anyone know about this?
So they recently made me an administrator so I can add links to articles and other optimization information but they appear to be paying another agency to engage in like for a like campaign. I am very uncomfortable with it. I started noticing these weird messages from other folks on FB saying things like "I liked you page now check out mine and like it back." What are your thoughts?

Would great contents alone, be enough for ranking high?
Hi and thank you everyone for reading this post. Recently I had purchased a business including the domain. The website has been around for over 10 years with some links pointing back to it including couple of links from dmoz. I am in the process of up dating the website but most of the pages are not relevant anymore and thus will not be in the new website. I have couple of questions: 1. Since some of those old pages are getting some backlinks, would it be prudent to keep the url and 301 it to say homepage or another page? I want to work out the best way of utilising the current backlinks. Is this the best way? 2. The website is in a highly competitive industry and I want to add a lot of informative contents. The contents will be well written (professionally) and not for the sake of SEO but for providing valuable information for users. Whilst I'm adding the contents, what would be best way of drawing attention of the potential users to it? If I release the same content as a way of notes in its FB page, would that be considered as duplicate content in the eyes of Google? Or should I just share the link on FB? What are the other mediums available that considered to be effective for sharing contents. I'm also thinking about guest blogging for selected blogs. Would this be an effective way of increasing the authority of my website? I should say that at the moment the site has a PA of 44 for the homepage and DA of 35. Are these numbers OK? Thanks again.

How to Position Yourself When Doing Link Building & Outreach on behalf of Clients?
One of the things we struggle with is how to position ourselves when doing outreach such as link building on behalf of a client. We know many times it is best for outreach to come directly from the client themselves so that it comes across as more genuine. However, some clients prefer to outsource the entire process. When doing outreach on behalf of clients, how do you position yourself? Are you typically transparent about being a marketer working for an agency, or do you spin it more as being someone 'with' the company? Does it ever make sense to use aliases?
