Link Building by Phone?
-
Is it worth going to the trouble to contact webmasters in person by phone rather than just using email? If so, what has been your approach to link building by phone?
-
Eliathah, This is a good way to build links. Having a relationship with webmasters of other quality sites is worthwhile. Be careful though, because I tried to call an SEOMoz member and they freaked out. The telephone may be old technology but it is much more valuable than email and posting in forums You can also explain much more. Be sure to get a single, relevant link, not site wide.

Thanks for the answer. That's a great suggestion as far as limiting it to great quality links because it's obviously very time consuming to compile phone contact info. Especially when a very high percentage of phone calls go unanswered. It's also good to know you have a colleague who is getting results using it. Thanks for sharing

I haven't actually done this myself but a colleague of mine does it pretty regularly with decent results. I would only do it for sites that would provide really good links, the ones that give you link juice and also some referral traffic.

This could be a very interesting thread. Thanks for asking this Eliathah! I've tried to reach you to webmasters before but without much success so I really can't speak to a solution or with experience. Hopefully someone will share their experiences.

I am looking for a software to keep track of the back links or link building
Hi Guys, I am very new hear. I just joined. I have a few websites that I need to manage. I am looking for a software that will allow me to manually add the links that I have been able to acquire. It would also be a bonus if it could search for the links to my site and to see if its still active. Because I have a freelancer working a few hours a week on link building and I need to keep track of the links. I am looking for something simple and good. Any suggestions? By the way, I used Raven Tools many years ago, and it had this feature. But since joining Moz, I don't want to be paying for 2 subscriptions. And I don't know if Raven still has this feature. Your suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you. Ryan

How do I build links for an Auto Detailing Company?
How do I go about building links for my website www.capitolshine.com Are there places I don't want to have my links? How do I know? How do I reciprocate? Where would I put a link on my website without looking like I'm just selling out to anybody who asks? And how do I actually put the links on my site? Do I need a separate page?

Link building / baiting in the Google zoo
I work for a consultancy, and in the past most of our links have been acquired by giving away privacy statements etc for websites, including a link back in the body of the document, and making it a licensing requirement that the link be kept. We're launchinga new site. We want this one to be whiter-than-white, and would appreciate some advice on the following options. Option 1: no links Remove the links from the documents, and don't require links for the use of the documents. Leave a non-linking credit in the documents. Perhaps ask nicely for links from other pages. Option 2: links on other pages Remove the links from the documents, but make it a licensing requirement that users will link to our site from another page on their site. I appreciate that most won't, but some will. Option 3: retain the links Keep the links in the document, using domain name (with and without http and www) and business name anchor text. Option 4: script the links Use scripts to generate randomized links in the documents, so that no two are the same, but with relevant linking text for the most part. We're risk-adverse with the new site, and it will pick up some links "naturally". We're therefore tending toward option 1, on the basis that it may well generate as many links as option 2. Which of these options would you choose? Are there any other options we should be considering?

Local service site link building
I have a local service site http://winecountrycarpet.com/ and I have been link building as much as possible for my landing pages (which aren't local to my city, but are within 20 miles). I would like to keep my link building as above board and white hat as possible (so i do a lot of forum sigs and links in do follow forum in my industry) I do not seem to be seeing any results though. My pages are on the first page for their targeted keywords, but I think this has more to do with onsite SEO and non competitive keywords. I am wondering if anyone can recommend any strategies that I might find more effective. I have thought about leaving blog comments on do follow blog's but it just seems so spammy its hard to imagine it working. I am open to any ideas.
