For a new business which would be the best domain name?

I'm starting a new business selling Whitby Jet and I want to buy the best domain name which will help me in the search engines, I want to use the keywords in the domain name because it think it will help when people link to the website, but whitbyjet.com and whitbyjet.co.uk have both been taken. I could be wrong I think .com is generally thought of as the best and I don't really like the idea of .net or .org
So maybe I might have to choose the third word which tends to make the doamin a little bit longer like
Any suggestions would be greatly received.

I bought the domain whitbyjet.com for $300 and I'm pleased that I've got such a specific domain name with the two main keywords. Thanks for the help

Absolutely over the years I bought lots of different domain names, and I always thought I would never pay for one which was held for profit, but when you consider how useful it could be I think 300 American dollars is not bad at all, I presume they often suffer much more than this? I've never really studied the subject

Thank you everybody for the good advice, I agree jewellery is not a good word to include in the domain, I was considering whitbyjetuk.com But I just wanted to say thank you to especially Ryan because I never checked I just assumed that whitbyjet.com would be taken by a company selling the product, how stupid of me! I think you are very much correct just for the fact that it's the perfect two words.com it's worth the money, I would never previously thought of buying a domain which was held and just for sale, but when you consider it is not a great deal of money and long-term most definitely be worth the cost. I'm going to buy that particular one, once again thank you Ryan.

When I consider a new URL, I always consider how easy it is to remember and type. whitbyjetjewelry.co.uk fails both tests. Some people can't spell jewelry and, unless you're going to be selling jewelry on your jets (talk about a niche market!) I don't see how it's relevant to your business. Ryan's suggestion is top notch and they're not charging an arm and a leg for it. Snap it up!

It's showing up as available to me as well. I agree with Ryan if you're interested in buying it, now is the time to do so.

When I visit WhitbyJet.com it shows the domain name is for sale for $300. If you are serious about starting a new business and can obtain a perfect match .com for $300 I would jump on it!

I would suggest the following tips for your domain:
1. Try to stay with .com and do not use hyphens
2. Shorter domain name is better
3. Must be easy to type and memorable
4. With keywords related to your website
5. Need to have commercial appeal

Well, a TLD will carry a certain amount of trust and relevance.
For example, being from Canada, if I'm looking for a product online (shoes, clothing, computer, etc) and I do my typical search in Google, I will visit the .ca pages first simply because they are a registered Canadian business.
However, this doesn't seem to carry well into the US as you really don't see anybody using the .us TLD at all.
.com means ".Commercial", but is grossly overused IMO.
TLD's don't carry any different level of authority in the eyes of googlebot (well, maybe there are some like .cn that are known for housing spam sites, but I cannot confirm that). People go for .com because it is so widely known, and people are not used to seeing .net's nearly as often as they are typically used for 'net' related activity.
.org would not be a good fit for your site as .org is for organizations, ie. http://www.humanesociety.org/, and are usually for non-profit efforts.
To summarize: .net and .com have no difference in the eyes of crawlers. It just boils down to the preference of users. If you create a website that is appealing and looks reputable, you shouldn't have any problems. However, a .net might be more suitable for a website such as (pseudo): ComputerDiscussionTopics.net
It's a tough one. Maybe some others will chime in.

Spanish website indexed in English, redirect to spanish or english version if i do a new website design?
Hi MOZ users, i have this problem. We have a website in Spanish Language but Google crawls it on English (it is not important the reasons). We re made the entire website and now we are planning the move. The new website will have different language versions, english, spanish and portuguese. Somebody tells me that we have to redirect the old urls (crawled on english) to the new english versions, not to the spanish (the real language of the firsts). Example: URL1 Language: Spanish - Crawled on English --> redirect to Language English version. the other option will be redirect to the spanish new version, which the visitor is waiting to find. URL1 Language: Spanish - Crawled on English --> redirect to Language Spanish version. What do you think? Which is the better option?

Is it better to redirect a url or set up a landing page for a new site?
Hi, One of our clients has got a new website but is still getting quite a lot of traffic to her old site which has a page authority of 30 on the home page and has about 20 external backlinks. It's on a different hosting package so a different C block but I was wondering if anyone could advise if it would be better to simply redirect this page to the new site or set up a landing page on this domain simply saying "Site has moved, you can now find us here..." sort of idea. Redirect based on location best practice clarification?
Hi, i have a question that i have seen some other have also had. The question is what is the best practice to serve the location specific page to the user (based on their location)? This post (http://www.seomoz.org/q/redirecting-users-based-on-location) suggests against automatically redirecting the user based on IP address. I guess the primary concern is that Google bot will also be redirected in this case... I see a number of well known sites use automatic redirect based on location. Take Urbanspoon for example (http://www.urbanspoon.com/), they use a 302 redirect to redirect to location specific page. Do they not redirect Google bot? Is there any way to test this? Can creating a rule to exclude crawlers from redirect cause SEO problems? How? Another example that i am somewhat confused as to how it works effectively is groupon.com.au It selects my closest city (i assume using IP), however the URL stays as the root URL. For example, i typed in http://www.groupon.com.au/ and it stays as http://www.groupon.com.au/ with the city chosen as "Melbourne". The canonical url for this page is the root URL (ie http://www.groupon.com.au/). If you then select "change city" and click the same city (ie Melbourne), it redirects to http://www.groupon.com.au/deals/melbourne. Canonical URL of this page is http://www.groupon.com.au/deals/melbourne. How is this not duplicate content? Can you please advise on the best way to redirect (ideally automatically), to provide the best user experience, while still having Google bot able to crawl the site effectively? Thanks

Location in domain name but want to expand
my blog is ocpatentlawyer.com. The domain name has the OC letters in it. When los angeles internet users land on my blog, they don't click through to the contact page or pick up the phone to call me. Should i start a new blog with a LA focus then link to this new LA patent blog from my main OC blog? I'm hoping that the LA internet users who land on my OC blog will click through to the LA blog and feel as if I'm in their neighborhood. Should I leave my domain name the same but change the blog to something neutral such as XYZ patent attorney? The basic thing that I want to do is to convert the LA users from my oc blog. I'm unsure how to do it.

Will opening in a New Window pass all link juice?
Hey guys, We're in the middle of designing our core navigation for our new site, which will feature a blog. I want to make sure the blog is linked to from the main navigation to pass all of the link juice to it, but since it isn't the core feature of the site we want people to view, I don't want it to take attention away from other things. Due to this I am thinking about giving it a main navigation link that opens in a new window. It would still be reachable from every page on the site, but it would allow users to view the blog in a new window rather than leaving the main site. The blog will still be on the same domain in a domain.com/blog subfolder. My question is... is this good practice? Will this pass the necessary link juice from our root domain to our blog, or will opening it in a new window detract from the value of the link? Any other comments / issues with designing the navigation like this that I'm not thinking of would be appreciated! Thanks
