Do I need to do anything with masking?
-
Hello, I read up a bit on rel=cansomething where if a page has duplicate content you should put the tag there linking to the real page.
I have a godaddy domain that uses blogger for it's posts currently (Foward with masking). Do I need this tag?
-
Okay I finally got some host gator hosting but I have no idea what to do. I am up to the part where I am entering the details for the CNAME but it says the record already exists?
What the ??

It can be a bit tough without seeing the domain (since these situation can vary a lot), but I tend to agree with Matthew - the masking can cause a lot of strange side-effects, for search and visitors. One thing I'd definitely do is so how Google is indexing your content. You can just use the "site:" operator:
site:example.com
(with your domain, and leave off the "www") - if your correct domain is showing up with indexed pages, and there aren't a ton of duplicates, you're probably doing ok. If your posts aren't being indexed and are only showing up under the Blogger domain, then your set-up is sub-optimal at best.

Hey wait hold on, the part where you said 'host my blog on a url that I already own' I have done that already from a tutorial i saw somewhere where I update the record or something by putting my url.
I also have masking on my account?
Now I'm very lost -_-
Update: Okay I took off masking with my godaddy account and just did the second option you put which was update the records or something (I already had that).
-That's it! We've updated the DNS records, so your blog will now appear at . Thanks for being a Go Daddy customer! Will everything work fine now?

Hi zmbatt,
URL masking is not an ideal solution for SEO as it masks the URL for subsequent pages of the site which can create perceived duplicate content. Here is an article with a little bit more on that.
http://webenso.com/domain-forwarding-seo/In your case, the ideal solution is to setup a custom domain for your Blogger.com blog. Here are the instructions on how to do that. Click "Host my blog on a URL that I already own" then click on "Yes" for the "hosted at GoDaddy" question.
http://support.google.com/blogger/bin/static.py?hl=en&ts=1233381&page=ts.csDoing that will let you have individual URLs appear in the address bar. As for the canonical URL you were asking about, it is best practice to use them if you can. They are only essential if you have problems with duplicate content. Here is an article discussing how to set them up in Blogger.

Matthew

Domain Masking SEO Impact
I hope I am explaining this correctly. If I need to provide any clarity please feel free to ask. We currently use a domain mask on an external platform that points back to our site. We are a non-profit and the external site allows users to create peer-to peer fundraisers that benefit our ministry. Currently we get many meta issues related to this site as well as broken links when fundraisers expire etc. We do not have a need to rank for the information from this site. Is there a way to index these pages so that they are not a part of the search engine site crawls as it relates to our site?

Bringing a large news site back on line - anything to look out for?
Hi, I'm advising an online news site site that has been completely offline for almost 6 months, and is now looking to start back up again. The site seems to be completely gone from google's cache. This might mean moving to new hosting, but with the same URL. The archive has about 7000 original articles. Most of these are date specific news, although there are some longer investigative pieces that are more timeless. Is there any difference (from an SEO/digital marketing perspective) between putting the whole archive online at once, or gradually republishing the old articles? Is there anything I should be aware of, when restarting a website of this size? Thanks - Chris

Is it needed to use http:// or not?
Hi, When doing link building and getting my URL to other websites, is it necessary that the other websites include http:// before the domain? Example: I want to increase the number of links to my site www.example.com . When I ask other websites to add a link to my site, should I ask them to use http://www.example.com or is www.example.com enough (without http://)? Or it really does not matter? Thanks in advance, Sam

Should I Parent/Child my Website Pages (need help with terminology too)
Hello I have a website that I am trying to SEO optimise.
Technical SEO | | NikitaG
The current structure of the site is that all pages are linked directly after the domain:
example: www.domain.com**/page01** www.domain.com**/page02** The website is however logically organised in the following form:
www.domain.com**/page01/page02** Sometimes the parenting goes to 3 levels: (please help me with the right term here) Domain
↳ Page001
↳ Page002
↳Page003 My question is: should keep the current structure, or is it worth the effort to re-link the website in a parented way. Are there any benefites to one or the other, and could you point to some video tutorials or documentation to read. BqoDAsx.jpg DMMIC5o.jpg0 -
How long after google crawl do you need 301 redirects
We have just added 301's when we moved our site. Google has done a crawl & spat back a few errors. How long do I need to keep those 301's in place? I may need to change some. Thanks
