Why is map listing split this way ?
-
I am trying to figure out why map listings gets split up this way. Some people gets their maplisting to the right while the generic map listing block is down after a few organic listings .
Didn't they at some point of time club orgainc + map together so only one shows up in SERPs ?

Thanks for your input

Hi Saijo,
There a quite a few different ways in which Google displays local results and your screenshot shows one of them. As to why Google tries so many different layouts, I believe they are always testing things to see which layouts serve users (and Google) best.
Regarding your question:
"Didn't they at some point of time club orgainc + map together so only one shows up in SERPs ?"
I believe what you are referring to is the blended results. A blended results is a result in which there is both information coming from Google's local product (like reviews) as well as information coming from the business' website (like the title tag and URL). The majority of local listings are blended now and will appear on a page of both blended results and organic results, as in your screenshot. So, what you are seeing is normal.
Hope this helps!
Miriam

Is it possible (or advisable) to try to rank for a keyword that is 'split' across subfolders in your url?
For example, say your keyword was 'funny hats' - ideally you'd make your url 'website.com/funny-hats/' But what if 'hats' is already a larger category in your site that you want to rank for as its own keyword? Could you then try to rank for 'funny hats' using the url 'website.com/hats/funny/' ? Basically what I'm asking is, would it be harmful to the chances of ranking for your primary keyword if it's split across the url like this, and not necessarily in the correct order?

Removing an old Google places listing for a newer version?
Hey there, I was wondering whether you could help me out on the following; One of our clients has a Google places listing that we created for their business but it appears to be being blocked - or at least conflicting - with an old listing. As such, Google appears to be showing the old listing with an outdated URL and company name - rather than the new one. Does anyone know how I can go about removing this listing or showing that the newer one is now more relevant? Unfortunately, I don't have the logins for the old places listing. Where is this SERP listing of a product description coming from?
Google is showing a manufacturers product description below the ads and before the organic listings that I have not seen before, see the attached image. The bad part is instead of attributing it to the manufacturer it is attributing to one of our competitiors and placing thier link with the text. 1. Why is this happening? I can't find any schema or other mark-up on the page explaining where this content is coming from. 2. How do I combat this? I have not seen this type of SERP before. Any help is appreciated. Duplicate Domain Listings Gone?
I'm noticing in several of the SERPs I track this morning that the domains that formerly had multiple pages listed on pages 1-3 for the same keyword are now reduced to one listing per domain. I'm hoping that this is a permanent change and widespread as it is a significant boon to my campaigns, but I'm wondering if anyone else here has seen this in their SERPs or knows what I'm talking about...? EX of what I mean by "duplicate domain listings": (in case my wording is confusing here) Search term "Product Item" Pages ranking: domain-one.com/product-item.html domain-one.com/product-item-benefits.html etc...

What is the best way to organize a catergory for SEO purpsoes?
I work for a organic vitamin and supplement company and we are looking to rank for our categories by making more specific categories. For example we are going to try to add under the category "vitamin d" some smaller more relevant (longer-tail) categories like "spray vitamin d" and "vegan vitamin d" and try to rank instead for these searches and also searches containing words that we already have more authority from Google like "natural" or "organic". I know that putting the product pages a level deeper will only hurt us so I want to avoid that but I'm wondering if anyone has some advice on how to organize categories for longer tail keywords that we actually have a chance to rank for. Any help to figure this out would be greatly appreciated. Here is our page as it is currently, like I said we want to create sub categories that are effective for SEO, but also make searching and navigating the site easier. http://www.mynaturalmarket.com/Vitamin-D.html Thanks, ThatKwameGuy

Why is there no compiled list of the different types of search results on Google, and what the content qualifications are to generate those results?
Seems to me that this list should exist out there somewhere, but I can't seem to find it. Am I just not as good of a Googler as I thought I was?

Business Listings
So, There are no stupid questions right? I am thinking about adding my website to a number of business directories and websites. I have added it to several sites which do not charge a listing fee. There are several sites out there which charge anywhere from 10 dollars to hundreds of dollars. My question is: Is there a way to figure out ahead of time the cost/benefit relationship between the price paid for several listings....... and the likely increase in page rank due to the increase of links to the website. Or what number and quality of links I may need to aquire in order to increase my page rank? I appreciate all the help this community has provided in the past. While my website is not ranking the best......... its a solid contender! Thanks for your time and consideration in this matter.
