What is a Achievable SEO Growth Rate?
-
Hi Mozzers,
I have a question for you today.
What is the achievable SEO growth rate (non branded SEO) for a typical job portal style site if you are also taking into consideration there is a blog with a lot of useful content being produced on a daily basis?
How has your SEO growth rate been? Is it normal to think that the non branded traffic can grow by 1000 visitors or more a day each month?
if I hit 1000 visitors per day this month, then 2000 visitors per day next month, 3500 visitors per day the month after that and so on?
I know it's difficult to give numbers like this. Assuming it's a 1000 visitor growth, that mean it's a 50% or more SEO growth each month.
it will be interesting to know how your growth rate has been.
Thank you.

It's really difficult to provide a answer here as there are just so many variables and I think it's important to be realistic when talking to the client. SEO doesn't work like a tap that you can just turn on to get more visitors.
As Alice mentions, for a new site I've seen the same thing with slow initial growth until you hit a tipping point and the site achieves some rankings that have some reasonable traffic. At this point there can be a surge of traffic followed by (hopefully) steady growth at a slower rate afterwards (but you're got to keep building the content etc) to avoid hitting a plateau.
It does of course depend on factors such as visitor demographics, size of the market niche you're operating in, competition etc.
I've worked on one site where the entire market for the service being offered is less than 1000 people in the UK. (Assuming we're working to get qualified traffic then you can see that we're never going to get high month on month growth)
Also watch out for other factors such as seasonality or weather. (I've had one site have record visits due to the wet summer in the UK. Now there's the first glimmer of sunshine I've got a traffic decline on my hands.) Are the number of people looking for jobs affected by external factors such as the economy and the time of year? When are companies likely to recruit? How do holidays, annual budget cycle etc play a part?
The key to making any prediction traffic wise is to understand the target audience. Knowing when you need to broaden your appeals or come up with other services/products in order to bring in new visitor and keep the traffic (and the business growing).
Taking your job portal as an example - how many people are looking for a job or looking to recruit and could use the services it provides? What competition is there? How much of the total market are you likely to appeal to?
Hope this helps!

Hi Mohit. As you say it's very difficult to give numbers - every website and every niche is different. A fantastic website with little or no SEO already done might see a 50% increase in traffic in the first month, but in my experience that's far from typical.
The usual pattern for sites I work with is a slow overall increase in the first three months (discounting short term spikes) followed by more rapid growth in the next few months. As sites gain links and regular visitors, traffic increases more quickly.
Good luck.

Bounce Rate: Would GA consider a user interacting with a single page (i.e expanding text), before exiting a bounce?
Hey guys, I have done a ton of research regarding bounce rates, yet I cannot seem to find the answer I'm after. Senario: BoIf a user follows a link and lands on a product results page with various sets of filters and an "apply" button, looks through the site, adjusts the filter functions (without changing the url structure) and exists without going to another page - would that qualify as a bounce in Google Analytics? For example: If I click 'details' to see expandable text on a results page ( /credit-cards). The dynamic url I'm talking about is below: https://masii.co.th/thai-en/credit-card/compare-buy?category=shopping%2Ccashback%2Cair_miles%2Cassistance%2Cdining%2Cpetrol%2Crewards&income=30000

Using https: Beyond the standard seo metrics
Hi All, I've been doing quite a bit of browsing around the topic of utilising https vs http when constructing urls and I wanted to know if anybody has research on the customer perception of a site where all urls are https. We originally used rel canonical tags to inform the browsers that the http and https were the same but we are considering stepping this up to having the http pages redirect to the https and I'm wondering how customers may react if they know that all pages are https. Anybody have insights on possible outcomes? Thanks, Tom

Should We Request Payment Upfront For SEO Services
Hi, I would like to hear how people work their billing for SEO work. I have previously been charging month in arrears to my clients but now have had a couple of companies run into financial difficulties and not be able to pay there bills. I would like to know how many of you choose to charge clients up front for work or send them a bill after a month etc. Thanks

Better click through rate in 2nd position?
I'm digging through my Google Webmaster tools and found something really odd. On one particular keyword phrase Google is reporting a higher CTR on the 2nd position over the first. A lot higher. Per Google the 2nd position is getting a 31% CTR. Has anyone else seen this?

How can we provide geo-detection without hurting SEO?
We represent a franchise, and the parent site does well for head terms, but we want to add a feature with the nearest location to a consumer based on geo-detection. We don't want to hurt the rankings for broad head terms. Could we use an iFrame to present the closest shop without affecting the general SEO we have done?

Click through rate crashing...
I have been on a pretty big content upgrade on my websites. More content 5 pages to 14 pages 100 words to 500+ words per page More images More alt tags This has increased my traffic & my click through rates due to a massive increase in impressions. But because the impressions have gone up so much further my CTR had crashed. I have gone from : 500--> 50 to 4500 -->70 In one month. (Taken from Google webmaster tools) Will having a much lower CTR hurt my ranking in the long run? In the end I want more phone calls about my service so far I'm not yet seeing that conversion happening.

Domain Authority Growth
Been playing with the historical linking data (nice feature, by the way) and I see a graph which shows the increase in my, and my competitors', domain authority in the previous month. My competitors have averaged a growth of about 1.6 and I have gone up by 2 in this period which is good, however is 2 really that good for a month? What would other members' consider to be a decent growth? To add context, the domain I have in this report went from 26 to 28. Obviously going from 90 to 92 will be difficult but I have a feeling I should be doing more to grow faster at the lower levels.
