Advice needed on how to handle alleged duplicate content and titles
-
Hi
I wonder if anyone can advise on something that's got me scratching my head.
The following are examples of urls which are deemed to have duplicate content and title tags. This causes around 8000 errors, which (for the most part) are valid urls because they provide different views on market data. e.g. #1 is the summary, while #2 is 'Holdings and Sector weightings'.
#3 is odd because it's crawling the anchored link. I didn't think hashes were crawled?
I'd like some advice on how best to handle these, because, really they're just queries against a master url and I'd like to remove the noise around duplicate errors so that I can focus on some other true duplicate url issues we have.
Here's some example urls on the same page which are deemed as duplicates.
1) http://markets.ft.com/Research/Markets/Tearsheets/Summary?s=IVPM:LSE

What's the best way to handle this?

I would defiantly not tell Google to ignore parameters since you have pages ranking high with URL parameters in them.
Be careful if you do implement a canonical, because you could end up removing a few good ranking pages since the URL parameter pages are the ones currently ranking best.
Personally i would just ignore these errors since Google has done a pretty good job choosing the best page already.
You could block Rogerbot from crawling parameter pages.

Thanks. This is the only solution I can think of too but the information on each of the tabs is actually different, so technically it is a unique page.
That said the likelihood of someone searching for such a specific subset of that data associated with one company or fund is arguably extremely low, which is why i wasn't sure whether to apply a canonical or not, just to reduce the noise.
I suppose another approach is to tell Google to ignore parameter 's' which forms part of the query which loads one of the subsets of data?
Slightly wary of doing that

Hi,
The best way to fix this would be to implement the canonical tag, this would stop Google/Rogerbot thinking those pages are duplicated and focus on the URL you specified.
Check this post from Google explaining all about it.

I'm updating content that is out of date. What is the best way to handle if I want to keep old content as well?
So here is the situation. I'm working on a site that offers "Best Of" Top 10 list type content. They have a list that ranks very well but is out of date. They'd like to create a new list for 2014, but have the old list exist. Ideally the new list would replace the old list in search results. Here's what I'm thinking, but let me know if you think theres a better way to handle this: Put a "View New List" banner on the old page Make sure all internal links point to the new page Rel=canonical tag on the old list pointing to the new list Does this seem like a reasonable way to handle this?

Your advice regarding thin content would be really appreciated
Hi guys, I have embarked on a new site creation. The site is being created from scratch and very custom. Basically the site allows people to review certain products and services. If each review completed by users is seen as a seperate page by google ... is this considered deceptive or a likelihood of being slapped with a thin content penalty? Basically 1 product may have hundreds of reviews naturally over time. Some may be really short and some may be longer. the reason why i would like the user reviews to be seen as seperate pages is because I want google to understand that people are regularly interacting with the main content page. Any advice in this area would be really appreciated.

Duplicate content issue - online retail site.
Hello Mozzers, just looked at a website and just about every product page (there are hundreds - yikes!) is duplicated like this at end of each url (see below). Surely this is a serious case of duplicate content? Any idea why a web developer would do this? Thanks in advance! Luke prod=company-081

Looking for suggestions on email outreach title/content
Hello, We created a "How to choose a product" PDF that we are marketing to resource pages and blogs in four appropriate niches. It's good, unique content that's useful. The PDF has it's own non-commercial page. We will be doing email outreach with buzzstream. Is it important to never ask for a link in the first email? We're offering one of the following four in exchange for the link (they get to choose one): 1. A link back on one of our other sites in the same niche (not reciprocal link) 2. $100 in adwords traffic including up to 20 keywords. 3. Facebook share of their URL 4. Tweet of their URL Let me stop there and see what your feedback is. We're looking for (about) how many emails to send out building relationships before making the above offer. Or is there some way to make the offer immediately? Also, what makes a good subject line? Rand seems to indicate that you can make the offer right away in this whiteboard friday but every other article and video I've watched have said to build a relationship first. Any help is appreciated. We'll be writing all completely custom, researched outreach emails, carefully crafted.

Frequent FAQs vs duplicate content
It would be helpful for our visitors if we were to include an expandable list of FAQs on most pages. Each section would have its own list of FAQs specific to that section, but all the pages in that section would have the same text. It occurred to me that Google might view this as a duplicate content issue. Each page _does _have a lot of unique text, but underneath we would have lots of of text repeated throughout the site. Should I be concerned? I guess I could always load these by AJAX after page load if might penalize us.

Press Release and Duplicate Content
Hello folks, We have been using Press Releases to promote our clients business for a couple of years and we have seen great results in referral traffic and SEO wise. Recently one of our clients requested us to publish the PR on their website as well as blast it out using PRWeb and Marketwire. I think that this is not going to be a duplicate content issue for our client's website since I believe that Google can recognize which content has been published first, but I will be more than happy to get some of the Moz community opinions. Thank you

HTTPS Duplicate Content?
I just recieved a error notification because our website is both http and https. http://www.quicklearn.com & https://www.quicklearn.com. My tech tells me that this isn't actually a problem? Is that true? If not, how can I address the duplicate content issue?

I need to add duplicate content, how to do this without penalty
On a site I am working on we provide a landing page summary (say top 10 information snippets) and provide a link 'see more' to take viewers to a page with all the snippets. Now those first 10 snippets will be repeated in the full list. Is this going to be a duplicate content problem? If so, any suggestions.
