I have a client involved in a FB like for a like scheme. This sounds unethical to me and likely against FB rules. Anyone know about this?
-
So they recently made me an administrator so I can add links to articles and other optimization information but they appear to be paying another agency to engage in like for a like campaign. I am very uncomfortable with it. I started noticing these weird messages from other folks on FB saying things like "I liked you page now check out mine and like it back." What are your thoughts?

Thanks everyone for your your thoughtful insights and confirming my initial concerns. All the best!

I agree with everyone here. I alwys explain to my clients how to acquire fans and the important of qualified prospects. Numbers do not mean a thing if they do not engage or buy.
My suggestions is facebook ads, current friends and a great facebook page. When I have a client that states they have 1000s of fans, I asked them how many engage or buy from them.
Their awnser is always.......

Why not the position of educating the client to the importance of creating brand awareness by engaging in social web efforts that build their brand or product. Explain the benefits of true likes where the engage user comments and share relavent content they are interested with their friends. Maybe they will see the value in social marketing. Or why not show them how to run ads on FB to pay for real people interested in their brands product or service. I've been successful at this for our own business with 25,000 fans on out page and tons of interaction/feed back.

Anyone else want to chime in on this?

I completely agree with you Dhirender. Again, it is not us who is doing this but one of our clients appears to have initiated this on their own Facebook page. I only have Facebook access on their account to provide links to articles and press releases we publish on their behalf. Still, I will be removing myself as an administrator and have no further activity on their FB page.

The most important thing about FB like or even Google + or Twitter follower is, they are those people , who know you company/product/services or a prospect. When they come to your page, they read it try to connect themselves with it and consume information/content present. This is how it creates value ( both SEO wise and increasing awareness wise)
But when you pay someone to get 1000 like for 20bucks, on 1st hand those people/account are going to be fake accounts and no matter if you have 1million fake followers/fans, its not going to add any value to you.
Earning like/fans naturally is going to create value for you, because someone after review your page/content/information has decided to like you.
Also there is a huge risk involved of getting your account banned by facebook in like schemes and even if it is not banned, you are not going to get any value.
In one line - Just imagine yourself as a consumer, you are not going to like 100s of companies or page. Even if you like them, they need to be in you geographical area ( if they offer their services locally), you must have at any point of your fan period ( Time your are fan of that page) commented/liked the post of a particular page.

Hello, I am adding a Facebook Like to Download button for each piece of free content on my website and wondering if a feature like that would be bad for the page SEO.

What percentage of people will Like/Share something on Facebook vs. Liking/Sharing from a website?
I asked this on Quora and am curious what the Moz community has to offer: http://www.quora.com/What-percentage-of-people-will-Like-Share-something-on-Facebook-vs-Liking-Sharing-from-a-website If I have a blog post that I share on Facebook and I receive 1,000 Likes and/or Shares, what's the percentage of those Likes/Shares that will come from people interacting with the post in their Facebook news feed vs. people Liking/Sharing the article on my blog? I realize many factors are at play here (type of content, audience, time of day, blog design, etc.) but have there been any studies that attempted to address this question?

Competitor has 50 linking root domains, 2500 facebook likes
Hello, A competitor of ours is ranking way higher than you would expect. They have very few links, half the DA and homepage PA of us, yet they rank several slots higher. On analysis, the only difference seems to be that they have 2500 facebook likes. Did they buy likes? Have you seen anything odd like this before? Thanks.

We got 10,000 facebook likes overnight from people in another country. WHY? How do I get rid of them?
Our facebook page http://www.facebook.com/MobileAttic received more than 10,000 likes over night. We only had about 250 likes prior to this. I know this hurts our engagement numbers as well as limits real customers / community from seeing our posts. Is there any way to get our fans down to a real "non-spammed" number?

Facebook Page likes vs Webpage facebook likes - Social Media Query
I have a website and a facebook page. I have the Facebook Social Plugin on my website which shows my facebook page likes - This is currently at approx 140 likes. Is there a difference between facebook page likes and webpage likes? For SEO purposes, should I be concentrating less on the Facebook page and more on building facebook likes for the website? Are there any guides on this? What gets people to like a website as opposed to a web-page?

Increasding the number of Tweets & FB Shares
Just asking for advice / strategy on increasing the number of tweets & Facebook shares to a particular domain. We're seriously lacking in this department and I'm not exactly sure how to get started as we're a B2B services company. We're languishing on page 2 of Google where all the other stats look good enough for us to be in the top 5, tweets and FB shares are 1 and 1 respectively. Any advice gratefully received - we also have a small budget set aside for an expert to provide a ranking strategy if anyone's interested. Many thanks in advance, Tony.
