Strategy When Building Links
-
When you build links do you keep track of every single link that you put out there? Or do you start and what to see what shows up in OSE? Some of these links take time so you would have to go back and check to see if it stuck. Im just trying to put together a procedure to follow. Also spread they out correctly, org, .net ,. com blogs, blog posts. etc
Just curious how everyone else does it, so its easier to manage & track.
Thanks !!

If you are commenting on a blog for links, you're commenting on a blog for the wrong reason. If it's not held in moderation by software, usually a good admin will spot it and remove it -- and if it's not removed, it's likely that the link isn't very worthwhile in the first place (such as an abandoned blog on an .edu domain that has 8000 comments with link drops).
If you are commenting on a blog to be part of the conversation, you would want to either subscribe to comments by email or bookmark the comment so you can come back and be part of the community.

I just want to make sure that I have a good start, and do things right, also make sure my link types are correct ratio.
THANKS!

Do you have a template that you wouldn't mind sharing? Just so I have a base to work off of?
Thanks so much!!

Hi LittleBigMan,
I actually do record every link that I want to target and achieve. Basically I make a large list with the websites I want to target along with contact details. I then jot down whether I contacted them or not + if I achieved gaining a link on the website. I think it's good to keep track of the links you gain, for example if you once contacted a website and they said that they would link to you, but then forgot about it, you can quickly shoot them back an email to remind them (if that makes sense). Another reason to record the links down is if you come across a website in the future that you like, you can quickly check in the spreadsheet whether you or a workmate have contacted the website in the past, as it may be a waste of time contacting them again.
Also, some clients enjoy seeing the links you gained in their monthly report.
Good luck!

Thanks, Only reason I ask is for ex. commenting on a blog, sometimes they throw them into moderation queue, so i was thinking to go back and see if it was approved, or just so I can see where my links are active.
Gernerally speaking, If you were building an inner page how would you approach it?
Blogs, Bookmarks,? I want to keep my ratio in check and make sure that I dont have too many of one link and not enough of another, to keep it as natural as possible/.
Thanks very much!!

Build them, forget them. It's a natural process of the web. You will always be loosing some links, but then you should always be gaining some links. That's just like any other company/brand should be. That's what natural right. You advertise on TV, Radio,Run a contest, do something creative in your community, industry and bloggers, website owners are linking to you. You start working with a company, a product and they run a press release...those are links. A very small percentage of your links get dropped for whatever reasons. People shutting down their websites, getting acquired...or whatever other reasons could be.
So concentrate your time on Good content, good links. Don't worry too much about your existing links. Some people may disagree and that's fine. It just depends on how you think about SEO as a whole. I think of SEO as a Best Practice on what you need to feed the bots as well as Brand Building...which leads to success.

Need clarification on Linking strategy and whether I am doing more harm than good?
I wanted to get an opinion of whether a new strategy is wise or profoundly idiotic. Here is the scenario. We have a branded site that offers villa rentals around the world but we also have separately branded geo specific websites that focus on villas rentals at a specific destination meaning the villas are mutually inclusive on the sites but we try to differentiate them with different descriptions and markups. This is what we did. We have a magazine associated with the global company that posts articles 1 to 2 times a day and it is set up as a subfolder on the global website. The articles have revelant links to the global company landing pages as well as relevant villa pages. Additionally, we embed links to the geospecific websites as well if an article features a destination, topic or villa that is relevant to both the geospecific and global website. Moreover, In we have aggressively cross linked relevant keywords from specific villa pages (ie villa xyz on Barbados) to the magazine as well as to the root domain of the global website and other relevant pages. But we do not link the geospecific site back to the magazine or global site. Since we implemented this strategy, the rankings on our global site have dropped and the specific villa page on the global site (villa xyz on Barbados) has dropped precipitously for that villa xyz keyword. The complicating feature in all of this is that we have been launching new sites and fixes in the past month so I am not exactly sure what is the cause of the drop but I have a suspicion that the aformentioned issue may be a contributing factor. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

How to link build?
Hello all. I've been having intense conversations with an experienced SEO, who has told me that the only way to get consistent links to your website, and to build you business through the web is through blogger outreach, and then paying the bloggers to put your appropriate content on their high Page Ranking website. To me, this may well be right. But it sounds dull as anything. Any thoughts? William

Is tiered link building a good thing?
I think that I have watched all the webinairs and online courses available on the web, but I still don't seem to know how and where to get links from. I know what type of links I should be getting and what type I should be avoiding, but that little luck so far. I came across the website of Matthew Woodward about tiered link building where he explains how to do this type of link building in depth. It seems quite interesting but also a lot of work so I don't want to invest my precious time in something that will be penalised by Google in the near future. Is there anyone that can give me some reason why I should or shouldn't do this?

Link Building
Guest blogging, guest blogging, guest blogging. Since I started my career as a "brand manager" I've heard the term "guest blogging" at least a million times. So I've put a fair amount of energy into it and for a long time it worked beautifully, still is in many ways. However, in the last month or two nearly every blog I have contacted about guest blogging has said that "due to an increase in guest blogging request we are now charging a fee of x" so on and so forth. Doesn't paying for links put you at great risk for being deindexed? And can't bloggers get in trouble for this as well? Do they not know, not care or think it doesn't apply to them? And if it's a sponsored post, say I send them $100 of free product and pay them $100 to do it, isn't that just hiring someone to talk about my brand? Why would google punish me for that? Anyway around it? Thank you so much! I look forward to your suggestions/advice/criticism.

Link building from keyword domains
Hi all, I am currently working on link building to our site http://www.betxpert.com which has a number of keywords I am targeting. I have become aware that domains with the keywords are available. We (in Danish) target the phrase "ekpert tips" and the domain www.eksperttips.dk is available. Would it be a good thing for us, to register this domain and do one of the following things: a) DNS forward traffic to our main site b) Build a small blog with minor content and linking to the main site with text links with the tekst "ekspert tips"? c) Simply do nothing, save the money and spend it otherwise... Hope someone can give me a sound advice. Best regards, Rasmus

What are the best SEO agencies for link building?
I am not looking for a full service SEO agency. I just want link building. Not paid links, not link networks, not blog comments, not bookmarks...real, legit, decent links. Does anyone have any experience working with an SEO agency that helped them develop their link profile positively and at a reasonable price? I'm willing to pay for the service, I just want to work with someone who won't buy links or send a bunch of spam our way. If anyone has worked with such an agency, please let me know so I can contact them for more info. Thanks!
