Panda Victim still looking for recovery looking for help
-
I am an internet retailer hit by Panda and have made many changes to my site since first being hit on feb 2011. I had a slight recovery last september but have since slipped back again.
I have scoured the internet for panda recoveries for internet retailers like me but I have not seen any.
If anyone knows of recoveries of a site like mine (wackyplanet.com) -- we are on a yahoo store platform I would aappreciate any info as I am looking for an SEO who has experience with Panda as it relates to sites like mine.

Here are the stats:
3/2011 unique organic traffic/Google compared to 2/2011? -47%
2/2011 compared to 01/2011 -7.7% (2/25/11 compared to 1/25/11 -55% )
1/2012 compared to 1/2011 -65%
8/2012 compared to 8/2011 and to 7/2012 -52%
If it looks like a Panda, walks like a panda....

Arthur,
When you say the drop started on 2/2011 and is now down 90% we are talking about 18 months of tracking. So, for 3/2011 where was unique organic traffic/Google compared to 2/2011? Or, better where was 01/2011 compared to 2/2011. then where was 1/2012 compared to 1/2011? Last, where was 8/2012 compared to 8/2011 and to 7/2012?
That will give you a bit more of a picture as to whether the traffic is dropping gradually or if it is as the result of penalties. You can take the algorithm change dates from moz: (Thanks Keri) and compare them to your traffic at those times. Are you seeing specific dips at those times. So, for Panda one which was in Feb 2011, do you see a specific drop in ranking/traffic?
What you have to watch is if you have a problem that is not the result of a change at Google, and you are blaming Google changes, you will attempt to correct the wrong thing and lose time and business. There are a ton of questions that need to be asked when you are looking at 18 months of decline. I am not sure they can all be asked here, but to the extent that you can provide a bit of direction, I will attempt to provide an answer(s).
Best,

Robert,
My drop started in Feb. 2011 and is now down 90% from that time period. Our traffic does fluctuate do the type of products we sell -- whether something becomes trendy or not etc.
We changed the site substantiailly deleting half our pages last year and adding content to the ones we kept.
We received no warnings.in webmaster tools but we are trying to get rid of bad links
We had a bump of 25% last september but there has been a steady decline again after panda updates this year.

The "rule" has been 100-150 but in this YouTube video Matt Cutts talks about that as being no longer valid. So, the number is somewhere above that, but I look at how does the page look in terms of internal links. Are there a ton of affiliate links, advertising links, etc.
Your site does not seem to have that. -
Hi Robert,
when you say well within limits per page, what is a safe limit for internal link per page.
Thanks
-
Things look in order on you site, are you using someone else's text?
-
Arthur,
It appears you understand what Panda was and that it was about content that was too thin, duplicated, too many advertisers on a page, etc. Many think it was about links due to misinformation.
So, I looked through the site and checked several pages for duped content and saw none. Yes, it is a little light, but given the type of site, I don't see a need for a lot more content on product pages, etc. The only thing that requires a bit more checking is the internal linking that you have but from what I can see that is well within limits per page.
So, the question arises: what drop did you see? Did you receive anything in GWMT from Google regarding any type of violation, etc.
Hope this helps a bit

Who is correct - please help!
I have a website with a lot of product pages - often thousands of pages. As each of these pages is for a specific lease car they are often only fractionally different from other pages. The urls are too long, the H1 is often too long and the Title is often too long for "SEO best practice". And they do create duplication issues according to MOZ. Some people tell me to change them to noindex/nofollow whilst others tell me to leave them as they are as best not to hide from google crawler. Any advice will be gratefully received. Thanks for listening.

Need Urgent Help
I have found one mistake that my place page address is little different than address on all local directories like on place page address is: 10010 S Tryon St #122 Charlotte, NC 28273 and on directories : 10010 South Tryon St 122 Charlotte, NC 28273 so on place page it is just "S" instead of South and "#" is before 122 but on all directories # is missing So what do you suggest ? Should i change address and re verify place page ? Re verify will put down place page value ???

Someone is building anchor text links with child porn keywords..help :-(
Hey Everyone; I recently found that there are tons of links to my url (30+) from several sites with the anchor text "download child porn, kiddie porn, and the likes". Although the sites linking to us where the person built the links do not have this content (thank god) it is just my url + the horrible anchor text someone is putting. [added image] Obviously I would not do that to my own site especially since I was ranked for over 15 keywords in the top 5 spots on Google and Bing. I am guessing its a competitor and I am wondering that is there any way I can remove them? Is this negative seo? Also could this be the reason my site has dropped off google page 1 last month for all my positions? I am consistently trying to rebuild but my positions are flying all over the place. Im going from ranking #12 one week to #198 the next; then to #60 and finally not even on google or bing anymore; then back to #50, etc for the past month and a half... Its very aggravating and it has hurt a few of my websites; im at a total loss on how to recover now if this is the case...It seems they have started to build these links in January from what I can find on the postings.. Thank you SEOMOZ im so happy im a member now. Any suggestions on how i can get these links off or if it is why my site has lost its original rankings.. Should I just can my website and start all over with a different URL? How can I watch out for this in the future? Any help would be so so so greatly appreciated and valued 🙂 xpVjMw8

Panda or Penquin -Website Fell - Shouldn't this Recover?
On March 23rd our site fell 47% in one day. www.TranslationSoftware4u.com but we still held quite a few #1 to #7 rankings on Google and thought it would just recover. Our top keyword "translation software" was #4 , now we are #19 Over the next week I waited to see if it recovered. We have been online 10+ years and always stayed with white hat. I admit to learning as I go over the years but always felt content was king so I focused on information. I really do not see my site as using spam techniques but maybe I am missing something on the way I have it. March 23rd, major drop -47% On April 2nd I started with SEO MOZ and the Research tools showed we had duplicate content warning. This was from a blog we were trying to start that only had 7 posts but it had about 20 tags per post. I did not realize that tags actually created that post under that tag. I went in and deleted the tags again being stupid and not realizing it was then making that come up 404. The blog was so small we do not get hits on it anyway so hoping it just clears itself up. ( still get duplicate warning on our directory due to using "php Link Directory", but it's due to how it reuses the title tag and description, 2 instances per category page"). Still trying to fix the php directory issue. Seems many others are running it and did not have a drop. April 24th, we dropped another -10% It keeps falling -70% now. I have gone through the site and tried to clean up any warnings like duplicate title tags, meta descriptions. With regards to links I put up a small web directory with some reciprocal linking. Our product translates languages but software is not the same as a human so we often set clients up with human translators, the directory is a nice place to help our customers find a translator or see online tools that can help. The links were not excessive, there were maybe 100 links. After the fall I went in and found some translators had gone out of business so I deleted those, I am down to 65 links now, about 45 are exchanges. I have submitted to some online directories manually, but looking back through the links there is not really anything that makes me concerned. The link back to my site was really the most neglected SEO thing I did. Again concentrating on content. I did find a few links that I was not happy about but I did not put those links so had no control. I have been working on cleaning up my title tags, and making sure the content just reads better. I have been hoping that my site would just start recovering but it keeps sliding. Has anyone seen recovery from the updates. Should I see anything yet? I cannot seem to get Google to return to the site and reindex. Am I doing somethign spammy on my site and I do not realize it? Thanks for any advice in advance!

How much are redirected links that look like this worth?
Hi, All! If another site (example.com) links to you, and upon mouseover of the link, you see it's supposed to go to something like: http://example.com/index.php?option=com_mtree&task=visit&link_id=123&Itemid=456 and then when clicked on you get to your actual site, is that considered a real link? How much of a link? Thanks! Aviva

Organic traffic still down 9 months after redesign
The Good: We redesigned our nature travel website (www.ietravel.com) in Drupal. Overall, it's a great improvement in look and usability. Also, we are ranking for more relevant search terms (the SEO was managed by an agency before, and there were a lot of junk terms in their campaigns that weren't converting). The Bad: Organic search referrals have consistently been down 10-20% year-over-year each and every month. The Ugly: I am trying to dig in and figure out why this is happening, and I'm at a loss. We are aggressively publishing to our blog 5 days a week, and I've built many keyword-focused landing pages. Here's what I do know in terms of things that could be problems which I've seen in Webmaster Tools and SEOmoz tools. I have a lot of files restricted by robots.txt - 1,337 of them. Many have to be that way by design because they are nodes generated by web forms (w/ private user data). The rest are "Dates & Rates" pages - I restricted them because for each destination they are very similar in content. Wondering now if that was a mistake. For example, http://www.ietravel.com/central-south-america/galapagos-islands/dates-rates We have duplicate title tags on 462 pages. The Lightbox Module that was installed for our photo galleries was a disaster. I am researching a more SEO-friendly solution, but that solution is a month or more away. We have 31 duplicate meta descriptions. My question is, could these errors be THAT significantly impacting our rankings? I should note that according to Google Analytics, Referral traffic & Direct traffic is also year-over-year every month since the redesign. I don't understand the Referral part especially, since we took great pains to put in many 301 redirects. There are no 404s or non-indexable pages showing up in Webmaster Tools either. If anyone has any suggestions for problem areas or red flags I should investigate, please let me know. Really, any thoughts are appreciated. Best, Carlton
