How to Build Whitehat Backlinks on 3 Hours a Day?
-
Hi Everyone,
I've been lurking for some time and really appreciate the combined expertise of everyone here. Forgive me for beng a noob but, despite having searched the forum for relevant questions, I still can't seem to find the exact advice I'm looking for. Here's the deal:
We are a small, aftermarket automotive tint and accessories store and are completely online. We have been in business since 2003 but primarily on eBay and Amazon. Our site was always tertiary but we have really begun to ramp it up in the last 12 to 15 months. I have only really been tracking our PR numbers and backlinks using Alexa, Site Explorer and Majestic SEO for the past 3 months but the numbers don't seem promising.
I read as much as I can and have posted a number of articles, press releases, commented on blogs, started a ring of blogs and participate in related forums but am having trouble adding backlinks. How to do so when you don't have a big budget for it? Any tips or blind spots that I'm just not aware of?
Thanks in advance!
Best,
Mike

Go back to your keyword research. Try looking for the terms that have the highest volume (Google keyword tool) but are least competitive (look at number of results in the Google SERPs).
Create a piece of content for that term and you have much more chance of ranking highly quicker, especially if you submit it to social bookmarking services like Digg, Stumbleupon and Reddit, which can also be good sources of traffic.
I'd disagree with Larry - press releases do still have some value, particularly building links into your homepage, even if the just the press release aggregator places the link on their site they are decent white-hat links. There are companies that can distribute your press release to the various aggregators relatively cheaply if you don't have the time.

Thanks so much for that Larry. I do have about 3K likes on our FB page and 139 on our site and I've done my best to leverage the personal networks I belong to. I also distribute my blog posts to FB, Twitter, Pinterest, StumbleUpon, Reddit and Tumblr but I'm sure there's more I could do. Any suggested reading?

hooboy. link building has changed quite a bit over the last year. the blog commenting, article marketing, press releases, etc have been devalued quite a bit over the last year. Actually I don't think those tactics are even worth pursuing.
Getting a link is now not only about getting links from relevant sites, it's also about getting social media shares, like tweets, Facebook likes, google +1's, linkedin shares, etc.
If you're a small business and are looking for low hanging fruit, maybe just try to leverage your own personal network. For example, are you on any boards (for charities, churches, groups, schools, etc.) - could they add a link to your website on your Bio page. Or your vendors - could you be featured as a testimonial on their site with a link back to your site (not sure if this is still legit or not).
Otherwise the way that most companies do this these days is to write valuable content, which can be challenging if you're just getting started.

Good or Bad Backlinks
Hi All We are trying to go through all of our backlinks to see which links are good and which are bad. We are using two paid for tools to find our backlinks and sort them out, either good or bad. I have found that both tools have returned links as being good even though the links are not indexed by Google and have no page rank. Also we have found that both tools returns some links as good even though the links are pointing to a 404 page. Any advice on how to proceed would be appreciated.

Backlinks From Scraper Sites - Should I Disavow Them?
I'm going through all the links (hopefully) to my website and I've found so many links from site scrapers. For instance: http://www.fzccg.com/cmsteam/dvbbs/boke.asp?zkhod76681.showtopic.148760.html ... which links to my site with anchor text "abercrombie uk How To Change Your Wiper Blades" It is surely not realistic to think that I can contact all the scraper site owners. So what should I do with this kind of links?

Got a link building question here
I've been doing a lot of back link analysis on my competitors and noticed that a lot of links are coming from wordpress.com, blog.com, blogspot.com, etc blogs. These are free blogs in the format of http://www.username.blogplatform.com. These individual blogs seem to have product reviews and mentions for many different products (we are an e-commerce website). I would like to know if anyone has done any outreach to the owners of the third party blogs. This looks very different from guest blogging and I want to know if there is a way to reach out to these blog owners in order for them to write something about our products. Please let me know if anyone had any success with this, Thank you

How to pick the right keywords for backlink building in a Huge site
Hi there, I'm running a coupons/discounts web site, with more than 1 millon page indexed. The website niche is crearly related to Coupons, Discounts, Deals, but those discounts may apply to hundreds of different categories. Currently we are getting 15K organic visits a day. Every time we have to write blog articles to increase backlinking, the same question came up. Should we target our niche keyowrds (which are very competitive) or should we pick long tail keyword (3-4 words) to be more specific ? The 70-80% of the organic traffic we receive every day came from long tail keywords, for which we never did any offert to rank with. This 70-80% traffic lands into internal pages. So basically the question is: should I keep backlinking the home page to get more juice on my domain, which will organically flows to the long tail landing pages ? Or should I write hundreds of articles targetting directly the long tail ? I think that targetting the long tail will cost me a lot of effort, i.e. for a particular long tail google search (with 4 or more keywords) I get 10 visitis a day, ranking in postion 3. If I made a lot of effort to rank in the first position for that long tail keyword, I may only get 50 visits a day, so for duplicating my daily visit amount I should do that work for thousandths of keywords, which seems, to not have much sense. So, should we target the domain and lets the rank flows from there, or should we point to thousandths of internal long tail landing pages ? I hope I made my self clear enough. Thanks in advance

Link Building Tactics
Without giving all of your secrets away, what are your basic link building tactics? I'm trying to do everything legit, but man is it tough to get links from legit sites. This is the first time I've truly had to go out and build links. I am trying to partner with bloggers in my industry to post a review of our site and submitted to some of the major paid directories and stuff like that, but I'm curious to know what the pro's do.
