Getting access to clients websites for onsite seo
-
I understand on site seo fine, as I have tweeked up my own website a fair bit.
But I am thinking about doing Onsite and Offsite SEO for clients, as I have had a few request now.
So my question is what is the best way to get access to clients websites.
So I can make the required adjustments.
I have one client, who had a company create a website for him, but they have since closed down.

Website company closed down, but he's hosted somewhere, that's easy. Contact the hosting company, determine who's being billed for hosting, if it's your client a 5 minute conference call with verification of his credit card on file they let the hosting know you have rights to access by FTP. Done.
Typically it should / would end there UNLESS the site was dynamic - a WordPress, Joomla, Concrete, etomotie, etc site then it get's into issues of accounts and permissions.
Before you think about access think about liability - do you really want DIRECT access? do you want the responsibility of their user name, password and if it's breaks you're the one they blame?
Insurance and contracts
Are you insured if your access accidentally deletes everything? Does your contract state a protection of arbitration if they make claims you deleted, took, added or changed their website?
If the website was a room in strangers house and a pile of cash was left on the table, would you know their character well enough that wouldn't accuse you of theft? Having direct access goes from light dating to marriage, are you ready for commitment?
Before you do anything make a back-up Whttrack is a great program to make a static web backup. Make it for yourself first and foremost because you never know what will happen.
Back up the database, files, images, structure, accounts...everything!

Homepage SEO optimization
Hello, I’m almost ready to lunch my new website https://thetravelhoop.com , I just need to create the content of the product page and put all the images. I would like to know what you think in terms of SEO of the home page (is the content that I want to rank the most). My doubt is that since it is a landing page, there is not a lot of text but mostly <h>. It’s not a styling decision of course (I know is bad practice) but mostly because they are supposed to be title/headings.</h> Do you think I’m doing something wrong, or do you have any suggestions? Thank you, Daniele

SEO can id and class be used in H1?
Can ID and class be used in my H1 tag. I realize best case would be to change it, but it's going to require a change order from the ecommerce company to fix their sloppy code. Will this hurt seo? Example:

Using Escaped Fragments with SEO
Our e-commerce platform is in the process of changing to what we call app based stores (essentially running in a browser as single page web-app) With these new stores they are being built in HTML 5 and using escaped fragments.
On-Page Optimization | | marketing_zoovy.com
Currently merchants are usually running 2 stores until we launch to app site at 100%. My questions are really concerning the app stores which right now show on a subdomain but will essentially take over the primary domain. Here is an example:
app.tikimater.com and app.sportsworld.com Since I am not a developer, I'm really having a hard time understanding the escaped fragments. I'm using this but https://developers.google.com/webmasters/ajax-crawling/docs/getting-started I'm not sure what my actual urls should look like and what the canonical should be set to. Right now they have been removed but previously they had http:app.tikimaster.com#!v=1 Also, and how I should be setting up my meta information for Google so 1) pages are indexed timely 2) pages are indexed with the correct information. I am still setting the meta titles and descriptions but in some instances Google uses other info. With the new platform we are moving away from on page content (written paragraphs) but category pages would have related products embedded. Should I still be pushing to have some type of intro text, since it would solely be for SEO and not the shoppers experience. All product pages have content (product description etc) Thank you for any advice0 -
Website Speed Testing Tools
I have been experimenting with a number of plugins to speed up the loading of my wordpress site and find that website speed testing tools are all over the map when it comes to results. Even the same tool can produce vastly different results. Does anyone have experience with one that is both dependable and consistent?
