My seo company has a footer link that links to my site by keyword will this effect my rankings
-
My old SEo company has a footer link by keyword to my site so it acts like a site wide link will this effect my rankings.
My site was in the top 5 for many keywords now page 2 and 3 so I am trying to see what has effected it as we havent changed what we do
-
We now use a SEO company rather than just a link builder which I understand why you are saying that. They have said that content is very important as well as Social Media and they have put this is in place.
But you still need link building as to gain authority to your site what they have said to me is less is more but they have to be from reputable high quality authoritive sites.
But I think we also need to have the old links deleted. We are not totally penalised as we have stopped ranking but just gone down by a page which obviously has more than halved our traffic.

Okay thank you very useful I will bring this up with my new seo provider who are saying just concentrate on getting new high quality links
Frankly, this type of response from SEO providers upsets me greatly. Let's take a step back for a moment.
In the past you desired to increase your website traffic / sales so you reached out to two SEO providers. They "helped" you by building manipulative links to your website. As a result, your site is now penalized for manipulative links.
You now are reaching out to a new SEO provider for help. Their answer is to build new, better manipulative links to drown out the old lower quality manipulative links. You are OK with that?
There is a saying. Shame me once, shame on you. Shame me twice, shame on me. At this point you have enough education to understand manipulative links are a violation of Google Guidelines. The loss of traffic and sales has apparently not sent the message Google desires which is....do not build any manipulative links.
So what is your plan? You are going to pay this SEO company to build more links? Here is my prediction. Ultimately you will pay to have all the old links removed AND the new ones being built by your new provider. In the meantime, you will lose months worth of sales to competitors.
You likely have not used any SEO service but rather link building services. There is a huge difference. The guy who changes your oil is not a mechanic. The guy who can just build links is not a SEO. If you are going to run a successful website, you need to understand the difference.

Okay thank you very useful I will bring this up with my new seo provider who are saying just concentrate on getting new high quality links I have had 2 seo providers before is there a way of seeing who did these links if not I will contact them both

The freewebsitedirectory link is one of many directory link examples from your backlink profile which violations Google's Quality Guidelines. More specifically, this type of link is classified as part of a link scheme designed to manipulative search rankings.
This link falls under the classification of "Low-quality directory or bookmark site links". This type of link can directly lead to a penalty or Penguin issue.
-
You would need to contact them and request the link to be removed or have the nofollow attribute added.
-
The freewebsitedirectory one for example is that the type of link we should delete what is the reason thanks for your help
-
Hi there so how do I tell which links to go and how do I delete them as my old seo company did them Do I have to ask them to do it
-
Your site is a textbook example of a site that Penguin is designed to affect. It is highly likely your site has either incurred a manual penalty for manipulative links or has been slapped by Penguin. In either case, you have a hard road ahead of you.
The footer link from your web developer needs to go:
The footer link from your SEO company, almost all of your directory links (keep Dmoz of course), and the other spammy links you have acquired over the years all need to be deleted. This is a long hard process which begins by pulling a comprehensive report of all backlinks to your site, then identifying the manipulative links and removing them.
Example pages linking to you:
http://www.spicecompanyofvermont.com/
-
If you want to test it out, do a nofollow on that link. If your site bounces back, then it was an algorithm thing.
-
There are lots of possibilities here -- what sort of "optimization" has your SEO company provided you with? Backlink campaigns? On-page "optimization?" Funnily enough, the footer link probably hurts them more than it does you, as Google isn't a big fan of sitewide "credit" links. Still, I'd remove it if I were you. It's a matter of principal and there's no point in passing PageRank to your SEO company (who isn't doing a very good job apparently).
As far as determining the cause for your site's drop, the best place to start is to determine the approximate date of the traffic drop and then find out about any Google updates implemented around the date. Then you can move forward to hopefully clean up the issues.

keywords are not ranking as per the expectation and need site review too
Hello, Recently We have a taken a project " http://customerconnect-services.com/ " and are responsible for the Digital Marketing for the website. FYI, we have been following the best On-Page SEO practices ever since we took the project: Performing Keyword Research, Finalizing the Keywords,Using those in the Page-Title, Meta-Descriptions, Heading Tags and of course in the Content as per MOZ suggestions & SEO standards. But, we are unable to rank in first page; all the considered keywords have a ranking of 51+ which is a serious matter of concern for us. We have also checked whether the Domain / URL has been blacklisted, but it's not (Not even by Google). We are therefore unable to figure out what is going wrong even after following so many best practices to get the keywords a good ranking (1st & 2nd page of SERPs). Therefore I would like to request you to provide your expert opinions in this regard by checking what is it that we are not getting right. The website url is http://customerconnect-services.com/. As this is a high-priority issue for us & the client is a prestigious one of course, please help. Looking forward to hearing from you at the earliest. Thanks & Regards,

Do web design footer links of websites you build have value?
Hi everyone. I am trying to build up DA for my site and create linking opportunities with my clients sites but I am not seeing any link value. I just did a redesign with another firm and we built out www.denbow.com . We have links to our sites in the footer but for some reason it's not being indexed. Can someone help me understand if it is good to put built by a href link in the footer? I've built almost 12 sites in my first 1.5 years of being in business for myself and I thought the links would pass some sort of value. Thanks in advance for the help and education. Regards, Noob Gary

Canonical link tag for https - any disadvantages for SEO?
Hi Mozzers, We have a website that has both http as well as https indexed. I proposed the solution of implementing a canonical link tag on all pages (including the login/secure ones). Any disadvantages I could expect? Thanks!

Linking shallow sites to flagship sites
We have hundreds of domains that we are either doing nothing with, or they are very shallow. We do not have the time to build enough quality content on them since they are ancillary to our flagship sites that are already in need of attention and good content. My question is...should we redirect them to the flagship site? If yes, is it ok to do this from root domain to root domain or should we link the root domain to a matching/similar page (gymfranchises.com to http://www.franchisesolutions.com/health_services_franchise_opportunities.cfm)? Or should we do something different altogether? Since we have many to redirect (if this is the route we go), should we redirect gradually?

Does CSS position effect the value of a link?
For example, take a look at http://www.dueds.com and scroll all the way to the bottom of the page. See the link in the bottom left? Does the fact that it is pushed all the way down to the bottom make the link worth less than if it was directly under the social media buttons?

Newly appointed SEO at a small company
Hi. I am new to the world of SEO, and SEOmoz has already taught me a lot. I am a newly appointed in house SEO at www.completeoffice.co.uk. They want to rank for the keyword office interior design, but I noticed that all the keywords they are trying to rank for, there homepage shows up on search results. So I optimised the on page SEO of their website for the specific office interior design page. http://www.completeoffice.co.uk/interiors.aspx. I took it from a grade F to a grade A. Currently they are showing up just outside the top 50 for office interior design, and its the homepage in the google results. Now I have made these changes and on page optimised the SEO for this page to be solely for office interior design keyword will the search results change so that it is the specific office interior design page showing and linking to , or will it always remain the home page. I have optimised many of the other pages in this way so that a keyword will link to the relevant page and rank for that relevant page, rather than get the home page to rank for 30 keywords. Thanks for any help.

Does a TM in the keyword have effect?
If I include TM in a keyword string, does this make it another keyword or does Google ignore that? Example: Kentucky Hot Sauce vs Kentucky Hot (TM) sauce. Of course the TM would be done properly via ™ Cheers.
