Keyword search filter in Google Adwords: broad? exact? phrase?
-
Hello all
I am working in my website and analysing the potential best keywords for the SEO (post/page name and url path name).
1. I am using Google Adwords. Any other tool you would recommend?
2. Which selection should I make in the Google Adwords Keyword Tool in order to know the monthly global searches of the keywords I should target?
Exact? Phrase? Broad?
For instance,
KEYWORD SEARCH:"Information about Madrid"
BROAD MATCH: 300,000
EXACT MATCH: 1,500
Te potential of the keyword is 300,000? 300,000 searches are undertaken on a month that contains that sentence and its variations? Or the relevant keyword potential is the exacta match traffic?
Thank you very much!
Antonio

When you are looking at your keywords, you can't miss it, it's to the right of the big, green "Add Keywords" button.
-
where do I find the keyword details drop down?
-
I use broad match for about 0.3% of my keywords. I tend to use both phrase and exact for each keyword. Is you use phrase, make sure to the "keyword details" drop down to see what terms are being used so that you can create some new exact matches and negative keywords. Exact matches seem to have a better quality score on the whole.
-
You also have another match type called 'Broad Match Modifier ' which is a match type in between phrase and broad.
-
Hi Antonio,
I've seen great results from all match types, and usually get the best results from a combination of the three plus some negative keywords. Good keyword research is vital to make sure you're not wasting time and budget on undesirable keywords. For example, if your keyword is "Madrid information", selecting broad match type could result in your ad showing for search queries like "information technology Madrid" or "Information on the University of Madrid."
Exact match type is generally the "safest" option, as your ad will only be triggered the phrase you've selected and nothing else. However don't be afraid to experiment with phrase and broad - you can set your bids lower to make sure you're not wasting unnecessary budget. Then monitor keyword performance closely and use the data to hone your adgroups (pausing keywords that aren't working, increasing bids on the ones that are, expanding your keywords, adding negative keywords etc.)
Good luck!

Hello Antonio!
1. I strongly recommend you to complement Google Adwords Keyword Tool with Ubersuggest. Try it at http://ubersuggest.org/
2. Yo should select the exact match, it reflects the potential of the keyword. The broad match contains variations of the keyword you cannot imagine.
I hope to be useful to you.
Greetings from Spain.

How to Best Target Two Keyword Phrases for a Business Directory
Our client has medical centers all over the US and we rank really well for the term "DIALYSIS CENTER" as well as all the major markets "DIALYSIS CENTER LOS ANGELES", etc. We need to add in a Second Keyword Phrase of "CKD CENTER" (which is an alternate term for the same medical center). Should we change all the TITLE, H1, etc that we have done to a COMBINED term of "CKD DIALYSIS CENTER" or "DIALYSIS CKD CENTER" and all the local market variations? We can't create 2 pages for one business in the directory, but we're not sure the right way to make sure that the pages are now targeted for 2 terms. Thanks in advance for any help & advice!!!!

Magic keywords in Google Webmaster Tools
Hi All, Recently moved a friend to a new WP back-end website as they were on Flash which is pretty, but not necessarily the best for SEO. http://francesphotography.com My question is that once Google finally indexed the site, I noticed in Google Webmaster tools that it found the most significant keyword to be: automatically On the following top pages: | tag/snow-boarding-photography/ |
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | BoulderJoe
| tag/style-photography/ |
| tag/underwater-photography/ |
| tag/vacation-photography/ |
| tag/wedding-photography-beaver-creek/ |
| tag/wedding-photography-copper-mountain/ |
| tag/wedding-photography-denver/ |
| tag/wedding-photography/ |
| underwater-photography-scuba-diving-cozumel-mexico/ |
| wedding-photography/ | The goofy thing is I can find anywhere that "automatically" is used - perhaps it is coming from a plug-in or magically keyword beans that Google found? Any guidance is appreciated.0 -
Do pages with irrelevant keywords hurt the domain overall for ranking for relevant keywords?
I have been doing SEO for the University I work at. We are optimizing our degree pages on a page-by-page basis. So hypothetically we have a page optimized for "online accounting degree" and another for "online marketing degree", etc. Although our focus is on specific page optimization, we hope the by-product is that the whole domain will start to rank better for "online degree". First of all, is this a reasonable expectation? Second, if this IS the case, will pages full of irrelevant keywords hurt the overall strategy? For example, our registrar and financial aid PDFs that are full of legal/financial mumbo-jumbo. Are these lowering our keyword density of relevant keywords across the domain?
