Social Signals CONFUSION
-
You know how sharing on social networking sites can act as social signal for ranking but I was wondering that what type of sharing on fb/google + ?
does it has to be our site links all the time or any sharing other than our own site links matters too ?
lets say if we are just discussing something on fb/google+ without our site link does that count too?
social signal is sent only when we share our own sites link on social sites or through any kind of activity on our social fb/google+ page ?
If you want to tell anything else connected with social signal please go ahead ..

Hi Simon, Thanks for your comment. I am very well aware of the things you explained and our social media is doing already great regarding what you said. I was just curious about what I asked in my qn.

In my experience - ANY activity will count! Most important - if you created account that links to your web - treat it like it is your web 2.0 property and you will see results pretty soon
Best,

You need to see it as community building. Don't see social signals as "if I put our link on twitter and get people to RT it it will help rankings"
The idea is to put up quality tweets, interact with your followers and give them information on your company, help them when they have problems and build as sustainable and regularly updated twitter account. Create high quality blogs, put them on facebook / google+ and twitter, If you do this right your followers will talk about you, influencers will retweet / like / +1 and this is how social signals work.
It's fair to say at the moment Google pays more attention to their own social network, Google+, but it isn't as popular as the others at the moment.
The summary is just to be active, put good quality content up on your social networks and interact. Your social signals will follow

How to reach beyond main social accounts
My blog is still very young - and I feel like a total newbie, but I'm working at it consistently. I've got 21 posts that I've put up since the beginning of January (except for 2 from October) and another in the pipeline and of course, plans to continue on this way. I've been building up my confidence and feel like it's just about time to branch out farther than my Google+, FaceBook, Twitter and LinkedIn accounts (which I've been doing regularly). My hope is to gain more visitors by publicizing the posts in some other environments. I would so appreciate some suggestions on how I might do that. And also, is it too soon? I don't want to jump the gun before there's an respectable/acceptable amount of content.

Request: Feedback on new free tool that provides social analytics for recent blog posts
We have created a tool that provides "at a glance social metrics" for the URLs listed in an RSS feed. Its intended purposes are: Monitor the social success of your recent blog posts Spy on the social success of your competitors' recent blog posts Quickly analyze a blog for social sharing metrics to determine whether it is a good outreach prospect or guest post opportunity Check out the tool at http://www.rypmarketing.com/tools/rss-social-analyzer.php I've attached a report run on the YouMoz RSS feed. Would love to hear some feedback on the tool... Do you think the tool is useful? Nice, but not worthwhile? What could be done to improve it? What ways do you think it will be most useful? Thanks! Very interesting test on social signals, thoughts?
According to this inforgraphic I found on Unbounce, the most powerful social signal is Google-Plus followers followed by Google-Plus votes. Now these results look amazing, so if this test is correct I need to gather 100 business page followers and a shed load of plus votes and I should see big movement in the SERP's? Thoughts? http://www.tastyplacement.com/wp-content/uploads/testing-social-signals.jpg testing-social-signals.jpg

Anyone use the new "Social Settings" in Google Analytics?
In the past couple of months, Google rolled out a tab called "Social Settings" in the Admin area (see image). It's an optional setting, and Google is rather vague about what it does. GA already tracks social in "Traffic Sources," so what is the advantage of using Social Settings? If you've used these new settings, what have your experiences been? Were the settings helpful? Did they completely screw up your analytics? Thanks, Benjamin Ri5bY Ri5bY.jpg

Social Media Signals with AddThis?
Good day guys, Just a quick question. By having the AddThis sharing tool to share content such as blogs, does it still send the same social signals to Google as you would get by having the official Facebook/Twitter plug-ins? Regards

Social Media Campaigns
Hey SEOmoz Community, I have a couple questions about social media campaigns. Which KPIs do you use for social media campaigns? How do you determine realistic campaign goals? I am looking at projecting the number of followers/fans and the amount of traffic a site can expect to see as a result of this growth. Any suggestions. Thanks! Geoff
