DropDown Menu with 175 links in headers, Can it hurt SEO?

I'm planning to add a dropdown menu in my online store header.
The dropdown menu will have about 175 options with 175 internal links to different products.
Can it hurt my SEO for aving more then 175 internal links on my header.
This header will be on every pages.

How about using the TOP horizontal menu with this options:
1 inch thick filter
2 inches thick filters
4 inches thick filters
5 inches thick filterseach option in the menu with a dropdown menu and 30 sizes option.
example:
1 inch filter>>20x20x1 furnace filterswhen selecting 20x20x1, the will land on a page with a product option and select the options quality they want to buy.
QUESTIONS:
- all my products descriptions are the same, the only difference is the filter size.
[u][b]Shopper are searching for there furnace filters sizes first[/b][/u], then they will select the quality options.
Do you have any suggestions on How to improve my site architecture?

I need a clear solution.
We are investing in a new header design and I thought to use one big drop down menu with all the furnace filters sizes was the solution.
Buyer are having a hard time to find there furnace filters sizes on our online store.

you will see categories on the left, I would like to improve this and make it easer faster for the buyer to find is filter size.
The part I need to improve is the categories:
5 inches
4 inches
2 inches
1 inches
Those categories represent 95% of our products sales.
Evry furnace filters sizes on our store is avaliable in 3 or 4 differents qualities.
So, when searching for a 20x20x1 furnace filters for example, you have 3 options.
SOLUTION: How about designing a large ''SEARCH BOX'' in the header where the shoppers type is furnace filter size...
Could it be a solution?

I am usually an advocate for "lots of links on a page".... however, in this case I think that 175 links is excessive.
I would reduce the 175 into a few categories and then make beautiful category pages with wonderful images that entice people to drill down. These category pages might rank in the SERPs for lots of diverse terms related to their content.
I would use this as an opportunity to expand my longtail keyword reach.

Having that many links in your global nav can hurt you from an SEO perspective. You're diluting the link authority that any given page is able to pass to another page by splitting it across 175 links - and that's before you get to links in the body copy, right nav, left nav, and footer. Essentially, you'll have a site with a large number of pages that each have a tiny amount of link authority. It's great for indexation, but bad for ranking.
Unless you're operating in keyword markets where a tiny amount of link authority is all that's necessary to compete for the super long-tail phrases you're targeting, that means that most of your pages will be unable to compete for shorter-tail terms.
You have to prioritize those 175 links and think about the business value of each of the pages that you're linking to, and the competitiveness of the keyword market that each page addresses.
- If you have lots of lucrative head terms in that 175, but you know you won't be able to rank for the foreseeable future because they're so competitive, eliminate them from the global nav.
- Similarly, if you have lots of obscure long-tail terms in the 175, you may be able to rank very well immediately, but the page will only get one visit per month, even with a #1 ranking. Eliminate those as well. .
Balance the conversion value of each page with its ability to rank for the term. The terms that strike that balance deserve to be in your global nav.
And think about this from your users' perspectives as well - 175 links in a global nav is a usability nightmare, and will cost you sales down the road, because your users will be overwhelmed. There's a saying in conversion rate optimization that "by emphasizing everything, you emphasize nothing." 175 links fits that description.

We have a "mega menu" that also has a lot, lot of links as part of the drop down. I agree with ThreeDesign - the user experience is very questionable (which is why we are moving from that format). I don't know how much those thing "hurt" SEO anymore - it used to matter but the popular opinion has trended away from it. However it's not a best practice by any stretch so the question is what's the value and is it worth it?

Ouch! Our first thought is that having a lot of choices sounds ugly and frustrating, from a user experience side. Remember you don't want to give your customer too many options, you want to guide them through the process and watch them through a conversion funnel.
Why don't you just create landing pages and add those to the header?

I have a section(no. of webpages with content) on my site with display ads. The site is mainly for UK visitors. I want to show ads to UK visitors but not US visitors. Rest of the content will be the same for UK and US. There will just be 1 page with same UrL for US and UK. Hence, no href lang tags are being used.

Can google bots read my internal post links if they are all listed in a javascript accordian where I list my sources?
I post a JavaScript accordion drop down tab [ a collapsible content area ] at the end of all my posts. I labeled the accordion "Show Article Sources"., and when a user clicks it, then the accordion expands open and it shows all the sources I listed for my article. And this is where I post all of my articles links that I reference per each article. But I read somewhere that google crawlers can not read text in a drop down JavaScript tab. So I am wondering now if this is true because that would mean I have no internal linking SEO going on since it cant read the links? ..... if it is true, then I should remove the accordion from all my articles and some how include the links I reference in the actual body text so I can get SEO benefits from external linking similar content? If that's true, what is an aesthetic way to do this, any example links? Tips ? Thoughts ?

480,000 Redirects - Is this hurting my SEO? PLEASE HELP!
Hello everyone, I have over 480,000 internal rewrites in my Magento site. The reason I have so many is because I have over 1,500 products on my site and I update inventory every day via Bulk Import Extension. For the first few months I didn't realize that the URL was changing by a single digit every time I imported the .xml with new inventory counts. This of course created thousands and thousands of 404s. I figured out how to avoid the digit change and then I started redirecting the 404s via a Bulk Rewrite Extension. I managed to rewrite over over 50,000 404s but new ones still pop up every day and there is no end to them in sight. My traffic is terrible. Only about 40 organics daily. It's been like that for months. I can't get it off the ground and I think it's because of this excessive rewrite and 404 issue. My question is, does having so many internal rewrites and 404s hurt my SEO efforts? Would it be better just to start from scratch with a new site, new domain, new everything? Please help me. I'm going crazy with this. Thank you. Nico.

Are sitewide links bad for SEO?
I have 11 real estate sites and have had links from one to another for about 7 years but someone just suggested me to take them all out because I might get penalized or affected by penguin. My main site was affected on July of 2012 and organic visits have dropped 43%...I've been working on many aspects of my SEO but it's been difficult to come back. Any suggestions are very welcome, thanks 🙂

Linking from and to pages
My website, www.kamperen-bij-de-boer.com, tells people what campingssites can be found in The Netherlands for recreational purposes. In order for a campingsite to be mentioned on our website we ask them to place a link to our website (either using a text link or image link) and then we make a page for that campsite on our website with in the end a link to ther website, e.g. http://www.kamperen-bij-de-boer.com/Minicamping-In-t-Oldambt.html -> they in return link back to us. Since this comes natural will this or won't this be penalized by Google and so on for linkfarming. At this moment we have about 600 camping sites on our website alone linking to us (not all of them) and we are linking to them. Since this can be explained as link trading which is not as good for your ranking as one-way-linking what should be wise? Should i include a nofollow? I already have many links from other sites linking to mine without having to link back, is there anything else i can do with linking to ensure better ranking?

Onpage linking
On my homepage, I currently link to about 40 internal pages. I'm considering altering the internal linking structure to have 50-100 links on the 2nd level pages. If I was to do this, I'd only need 8 homepage links. Do you think the 8 pages linked from the homepage would go up in the SERPs as the pagerank would be less diluted? I've heard so many mixed views on this. Be interested to see what people here think. Thanks, Pete
