SEOmoz Keyword Difficulty Tool been down for a few days?
-
Hi All,
I notice the SEO moz keyword difficulty tool has been down for a few days!!!
I know from support that they say it is going to be a "while" till it fixed, but some type of estimation on how long it will be will be good.
Also in regards to the types of accounts, why do the top accounts have the same limitations as the 79/month tool in regards to the keyword tool reports (50 max and 5 per scan)? I mean this is probably a wider question for the SEOmoz team need to answer.
Kind Regards.

Hi There,
Thanks for writing in and sorry that you are running into some issues with the Keyword Difficulty tool. Unfortunately, Google has changed the way that they present rankings information, so we have had to make some changes to our collection in order to keep up with these changes, I'm afraid that this has caused some issues with providing the real time data for the Keyword Difficulty tool and the tool is currently unresponsive. We are hopeful to have the tool working again within the week, but at this time, unfortunately, we do not have an exact ETA for when that tool will be up and running again. I thank you for your patience while we work to resolve this issue.
We will be posting updates on this issue in our Known Issues forum when they become available. You can access that forum here: https://seomoz.zendesk.com/entries/22457872-keyword-difficulty-and-rank-tracker-issues
I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Just thought you might find this link helpful https://seomoz.zendesk.com/entries/22457872-keyword-difficulty-and-rank-tracker-issues
They are aiming for a fix for Friday (but they hope to get it resolved sooner).
It is frustrating, but these things happen!! They're working on it, and I'm sure it will be fixed soon.

I'm sure the guys at SEOmoz are on this issue and will be resolved very soon.

I'm also finding it very frustrating that we're paying for a service that isn't working. Unfortunately SEOmoz appear to be having problems with their tools more and more frequently.
I appreciate that there are a lot of variables & maintenance behind these, but communication over the problems is poor to say the least.

Hi James, thanks I thought it may only be a few days, that was cool, but yeah its been a week+ now we are paying $500~ a month to SEOmoz, and really most of the tools are "having problems" ... Have been with SEOmoz tools for 3+ years moved from the 70/month plan up to the $500 one, now it seems more and more issues with the tools.
Would be good to have a post about what exactly happened, as many tools seem to be having issues with SEOmoz at the moment.

I too am finding this quite frustrating. I realize that google changes their systems but I am paying for a service that isn't currently being delivered. I wasn't sure if it was region specific or something so I came here to check.
Thanks @Columbus Search Australia for posting your correspondence.

Their is a section for "SEO moz tool" questions here within the public Q&A.
I was interested to see the wider community's view on why this tool has been down for 7 days and too see if others were also facing issues.
Here is one reply a few days ago:
_I am so sorry that you are running into some issues with our web tools. Rankings, Rank Tracker and our Keyword Difficulty tool all ran into these unexpected outage issues. Unfortunately, Google has changed the way that they present rankings information, so we have had to make some changes to our collection in order to keep up with these changes, I'm afraid that this has caused some issues with providing the real time data for our Rankings and the Keyword Difficulty tool is also currently unresponsive. Our engineers are working tirelessly through this holiday weekend to fix this for you. At this time, unfortunately, we do not have an ETA for when that tool will be up and running again. I thank you for your patience while we work to resolve this issue and I will update you when I have any further information for you. I am hoping for an ETA soon. _
Surprised_ SEOmoz has not posted an official statement about this yet, just a tweet. _
Only thing is we are paying money for tools which are currently having various issues is why an ETA would be good.
It is kind of like paying for a news paper and getting a newspaper with no content in it delivered.

This really is a questions for the SEOmoz team - I actually filed a private question (using our company pro account) re an estimate for when the Keyword Difficulty Tool will be back in action, I'm yet to hear a reply though. Will let you know when I do.

Comparing New vs. Old Keyword Difficulty Scores
We've had a few questions regarding the new Keyword Difficulty score used in Keyword Explorer, and how it compares to the old score in our stand-alone Keyword Difficulty tool. Specifically, people want to know why some scores are much lower using the new tool. There a general discussion of the math behind the tool in this post: Keyword Research in 2016: Going Beyond Guesswork One of the problems we had with the original Keyword Difficulty score is that, because it's based on our Page Authority (PA) score and PA tends toward the middle of the 0-100 range, Difficulty got a bit bunched up. A Difficulty score in the low-to-mid 20s (via the old tool) is actually very low. So, we set out to re-scale the new tool to broaden that score and use more of the 0-100 range. We hoped this would allow more granularity and better comparisons. While the logic is sound, we're concerned that we may have been too aggressive in this re-scaling, given recent feedback. So, we're going to be analyzing a large set of keywords (anonymously, of course) that people have run through the tool to see if too many Difficulty scores seem too low. If they do, we'll make some adjustments to the math. In the meantime, please be aware that low scores may appear lower in the new tool and very high scores may appear higher. We wanted to address some of the limitations in V1 and feedback over the years, and so the old and new scores really can't be compared directly in a meaningful way. We're sorry for any confusion that has caused, and we will re-evaluate if necessary.

What SeoMoz tool am I thinking of?
A few months ago I found a tool on Moz that did keyword link research. It is not keyword analysis either. It took a word and turned it into links such as dir:cabinet. I can't find it or remember or it. Does anyone else know? (I know this description sucks, sorry about that)

ETA On the Keyword Research Tool?
I'm trying to do some keyword research on Google UK but it hasn't been working for a couple of days now. I have a client waiting on a proposal that features this research heavily and might lose them if I can't use it soon! Is there any estimated time for the return of the service? Is the keyword tool down for everybody?

Why are SEOmoz Pro Keyword Ranking reports different between two 301-linked URLs?
Hi, My main domain is www.dancenut.com. I have this 301 URL redirected to www.dancenut.com/boston/. I set up an SEOmoz Pro campaign for each of these URLs in order to see if they were being treated differently in any way. In most cases the report results are identical, or the small differences are understandable. However, there is one big difference between the two sets of campaign reports. In the Keyword Ranking reports, the data for the Bing and Yahoo! reports are identical, but the data for the Google reports are dramatically different. Out of 21 keywords, 9 are listed in the top 50 for www.dancenut.com, but only 2 are listed in the top 50 for www.dancenut.com/boston/ (the specific positions are the same for the 2 keywords that are listed for both). Does this make any sense? Could the SEOmoz Pro data be wrong? If not, then I'm suspicious that Google may not be interpreting the 301 redirect properly. I don't think this could be fully explained by a 1-10% reduction in link juice due to the 301 because I have one keyword for which my site ranks #1 in Google, Bing, and Yahoo! with www.dancenut.com, but it doesn't even rank in the top 50 in Google with www.dancenut.com/boston/. And why would these differences only exist for Google? Any insight would be much appreciated! Andrew

Do keywords in drop-down menus count?
In running one of my campaigns in SEOMoz Pro, it was recommended that I reduce the amount of times a keyword is used to 15. On the actual page, there are fewer than 15, but when you include the number of times it is used in drop-downs from the nav bar, the number is 53. I know there is really no hard and fast rule about how many instances of a keyword make for keyword stuffing and the drop-downs only use the term where needed. Without it's use, it would be difficult to navigate the site. Is this a problem or should I focus on more important fixes?

SEOMOZ Competitive Domain Analysis
Hi, I am just trying to get to the bottom of why I am seeing such wildly different figures in the SEOMOZ link analysis. The SEO company that we use is saying that we have around 331 external links to our website, when I check on Yahoo site explorer, it returns 264 external links, but in my SEOMOZ campaign manager, it says I have 4 external links? I fully appreciate that none of these methods are going to be wholly accurate, and are going to produce different results, but I can't understand why the SEOMOZ results are so vastly different. I also know for a fact there are a number of Followed links that I have added to a couple of websites, that Google has now indexed (as they appear in search results), but don't appear in the campaign manager results. If SEOMOZ use a different method to assess an external link, then no problem - my main concern here is that as a Newbie I am doing something wrong within the SEOMOZ tools, and don't want to take action based on results that may be incorrect because I have set things up incorrectly? Any help is greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Gareth
