What can i do to move my site up the search engines
-
Hi. my site www.in2town.co.uk is currently number five in google for the search word lifestyle magazine, sometimes it moves to four but for over a year it has not got past four. before we had to do the site from scratch due to a major problem upgrading, we were number one in the search engines and our traffic was around 30% higher than it is now.
For the keyword lifestyle news, we are on the fifth page of google and would really like to improve this.
I would like to know what i need to do on our home page to try and improve our rankings for these two words. the most important word for us is lifestyle news.
any help in my goal to improve our rankings would be great.
We have improved our design which we are still working on, and we have upgraded to a bigger dedicated server to improve the speed.

thanks for this, i have read about the brand but never really understood it as some people say it works and other people say it does not work.
My brand is in2town which would not bring me traffic, the keywords that would bring me traffic is lifestyle news, online magazine, lifestyle magazine etc
i have about 2000 old links pointing to different sections in my site, these have been put in my htaccess file, i have about another 2000 that are not pointing anywhere.
I lost around 4,000 links because of the problem upgrading, long story but it is on the forum of what happened.
should i be pointing the other links that are doing nothing to my home page or put them in the correct sections. if i point them all the the home page then the home page will have around 2000 links with so many different anchor text as a lot of the old links are story articles.
many thanks for the advice

Hey Diane,
Good question. It looks like you've been working hard on the site as you're getting an A using the SEOMOZ on page factors tool...
http://pro.seomoz.org/tools/on-page-keyword-optimizationThere are a few small tweaks you could do, running the tool above will show you these. Nothing major.
You mentioned before the upgrade you ranked no.1. I'd start by making sure all links pointing to your previous site are being handled correctly on the new one. For example are there any links to none existent pages which need to be 301'd to the home page?
You also need to diversify your backlink anchor text, as the largest amount of anchor text is "Lifestyle magazine". Pre Penguin this would of worked, but now your brand should be the most frequent anchor text used.
Hope that helps

Why are these blackhat sites so successful?
Here's an interesting conundrum. Here are three sites with their respective ranking for "dental implants [city]:" http://dentalimplantsvaughan.ca - 9 (on google.ca) http://dentalimplantsinhonoluluhi.com - 2 (on google.com) http://dentalimplantssurreybc.ca - 7 (on google.ca) These markets are not particularly competitive, however, all of these sites suffer from: Duplicate content, both internally and across sites (all of this company's implant sites have the same exact content, minus the bio pages and the local modifier). Average speed score. No structured data No links And these sites are ranking relatively quickly. The Vaughan site went live 3 months ago. But, what's boggling my mind is that they rank on the first page at all. It seems they're doing the exact opposite of what you're supposed to do, yet they rank relatively well.

Can Title Tag be seen in the page source, but not seen by search engines?
This is a follow up question derived from a previous question I posted - http://moz.com/community/q/does-title-tag-location-in-a-page-s-source-code-matter There have been several reputable crawl tools used on our (including Moz) site that state we are missing title tags on may pages. One such page is http://www.paintball-online.com/Paintball-Guns-And-Markers-0Y.aspx I can see the title tag on line 238 of the page source. I find it unlikely that there is an issue with the crawl tools. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Nick

If I want clean up my URLs and take the "www.site.com/page.html" and make it "www.site.com/page" do I need a redirect?
If I want clean up my URLs and take the "www.site.com/page.html" and make it "www.site.com/page" do I need a redirect? If this scenario requires a 301 redirect no matter what, I might as well update the URL to be a little more keyword rich for the page while I'm at it. However, since these pages are ranking well I'd rather not lose any authority in the process and keep the URL just stripped of the ".html" (if that's possible). Thanks for you help! Are similar title tags frowned upon by search engines?
We are a B2B company that is looking to convert to one global portal very soon. It is only then that we will be able to address a lot of the IA SEO issues we are currently facing. However, we are looking to make some quick fixes, namely adding a proper title to the different country homepages. Will having the same title, with only the country modifier swapped out be a good tactic? Since we want a unified title across all country sites, it just makes sense that we don't change it for every single country. For example: Small Business Solutions for B2B Marketers | Company USA Small Business Solutions for B2B Marketers | Company Italy Small Business Solutions for B2B Marketers | France

Site not coming up even when I search with the .com
We have a customer whose site: http://camilojosevergara.com doesn't show up even when you search for his exact domain. http://bit.ly/18RjPPX Wondering why that is. Is it because wikipedia and the other links rank higher? I've submitted his sitemap to google so I'm trying to figure out why its not showing up. Any tips/recommendations to fix this would be greatly appreciated. thanks

For Google + purposes, should the author's name appear in the Meta description or title tag of my web site just as you would your key search phrase?
Relative to Cyrus Shepard's article on January 4th regarding Google's Superior SEO strategy, if I'm the primary author of all blog articles and web site content, and I have a link showing authorship going back to Google Plus, is a site wide link from the home page enough or should that show up on all blog posts etc and editorial comment pages etc? Conversely, should the author's name appear in the Meta description or title tag of my web site just as you would your key search phrase since Google appears to be trying to make a solid connection with my name, and all content?
