Google Analtyics Cross Domain Tracking - in a form
-
I have a 3rd party booking engine that is causing my own domain to show up as a top referreral in google analytics. The vendor is on my very last nerve So they're not helping.
Would anyone be interested in helping a newbie out with a frustrating problem?
Code:
Reservations Page -
function SubmitReservationForm() {.
.
.
.
ResLink = "http://www.bookingengine.com/res/vn4/checka.aspx?month=" + Month + "&day=" + Day + "&year=" + Year + "&nights=" + Nights + "&rooms=" + Rooms + "&adults=" + Adults + "&children=" + Children + "&B1=Check+Availability&hotelid=xxxx"
pageTracker._link(ResLink);
return true;
}On Every page:
Any thoughts would be appreciated! I believe the problem is pageTracker._link(ResLink); but I'm clueless on fixing it.

Were you able to get this working, or do you still need a hand? If you got it working, would love to know the solution; otherwise we're happy to take another stab at this for you.
-
Thanks I'll take a look again. My form is special I guess, you leave the site and there's no iframe
-
The difference between link and form is as following: on the form, the user stays on your website, interacts with the 2nd parties website in an iframe and can click on the menu on the left - this causes the referral.
I don't know how much you know about it - maybe the following can help you:
Have a look at this page: http://www.google.com/support/analytics/bin/answer.py?answer=55532 - this describes the basics regarding tracking of 3rd party websites.
More details can be found here: http://code.google.com/apis/analytics/docs/tracking/gaTrackingSite.html
Have you tried asking the question on the Google Analytics Google group? I haven't used this feature by now - maybe there are some ppl that could help you easily.
-
http://www.ronjonresort.com/reservations/default.aspx - That's the page, since your'e being sooo helpful, I should make it easy.
Yes they leave my site. Click Check Availability
-
clear - this is because the user is leaving the page and doesn't continue on your page after tracking the link to the external domain.
Does the user continue on your page after submitting the form?
-
I think I could, but supposedly this should work! Google says it works, my vendor says it works (though I don't believe them :P) and I have it working for a link just not a form
-
I don't own the second domain, the booking company does. So I don't care and can't control what they do on their end. So this is all on my site.
This problem is using the form rather than a traditional link, when I have straight link like this, I don't get the erroneous enteries as my domain as a referral in GA.
onclick="pageTracker._link(this.href);return false;">
Book NowThanks for your help BTW
-
Why don't you just filter this out in GA?
-
Sure. But would you like to track these page views on your domain, or on the 2nd domain? If for the 2nd, you need another (new) tracker object initiated for the 2nd domain. If not, you could potentially use event tracking ( http://code.google.com/apis/analytics/docs/tracking/eventTrackerGuide.html ) - but unfortunatelly you cannot use this for funnels. If you need to track the sales on your 1st domain and with pageviews you might track virtual urls like e.g. "/__actions/sale/step1?xxx" - they can be used for the tracking of goals and funnels.
-
I changed the names for the post, not sure that's necessary. bookingengine.com is the second domain that hosts our online reservations systems. I realy would like to track through out the reservations making process which is the reason for the tracker object.
-
I guess, http://www.bookingengine.com is not your domain, right? Why do you need this tracking in the javascript function SubmitReservationForm() - is this that your partner can track the sales? The _tracker - object you are using in this function looks like your own - so this is tracked on your domain. If you not need the tracking, just comment it.

Pandora in Google Analytics
Hi Mozers, in Google Analytics our ads are registering a 10 second page duration and a 90% bounce rate, which is pretty atrocious. My questions are: Organic page duration is 3:15 minutes, and Social + Referral are similar. Yet Pandora is bringing the average time on site way down, to less than a minute. Will those paid ad metrics be factored to the User Behavior and therefore negative affect our overall rankings? In other words does Google now see our page duration as less than a minute? The Pandora rep says that Google Analytics and Pandora have "systemic issues" such that GA is very inaccurate with Pandora metrics. I find that difficult to believe. Any insights here? Thanks all! Jane

Understanding Average Position in Google Anaylitics
Hello here, I have a question about the Queries report under "Search Engine Optimization" in Google Analytics: is the "Average Position" information a reliable one? I have a lot of queries that appear, from that report, to average first position, but when I verify that on Google by connecting anonymously, I can't even find my result on the first page! To me, that information is worthless and makes me think all the rest of that report is unreliable. If anyone can help me to understand it, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you in advance for any thoughts.

Google SEO - Where have I disappeared to?
Okay, so first off Google, I hate you. Before I signed up for SEOMoz, my website was hitting page 9 and page 10 for some ultra difficult keywords. After spending a month using Hubspot and SEOMoz, I finally made it on to page 2 of google, for said 'impossible to rank high' keywords, which I was super happy with. But last week, I login to find that I have disappeared off the top 100 pages of Google for about 100 of my top keywords!!!! What the hell did I do wrong? I tried to please Google, but my website is still indexed, but just not ranked at all for any of my top keywords. The last thing I did before I disappeared overnight was add "follow me" buttons to all my pages and "share this" buttons to all my blogs. Could this be the problem? My website and main keyword is Process Server Is there anyone who could help push me in the right direction? I have no idea what I did wrong. 😕 Martyn

Tracking Subdomains without access to Primary Domain
Hi, I have look after mutliple sub domains on a website and want to implement GA sub domain tracking across them. I do not have however have access to the primary domain as thats controlled by a larger organisation. I'm wondering how to set this up so it tracks correctly? Do I set the domain name in my property to the primary domain, or the main subdomain? For example I have test1.example.com (which is basically a homepage), test2.example.com, test3.example.com and test4.example.com which are various sections. As stated, I don't control the root example.com so Do I use setdomainname test1.example.com in the tracking code or setdomainname example.com. Apply filters etc and then setup profiles for each subdomain? Hope this makes sense. Thanks.

Tracking analytics on several domains
Hello, I am looking for some advice. I am working with a real estate client. They have a main website, and then several separate agent websites. The agent sites share some content with the main site, as well as having some unique content. My question is what is the best way to track visitors? Should I have separate Google Analytics accounts for each site, or should I use one account and separate profiles?

Google Analytics session update question
Hello, With reference to seomoz blog post - http://www.seomoz.org/blog/panda-24-and-analytics-session-update-rolled-out-simultaneously#jtc151292 , i would like clarification about the following - User searches Google for "Product Name" and clicks on your AdWords advertisement. User leaves site and searches a few more times, click on competition and comparing prices and features. User ultimately decides to with your product, Googles "Your Brand + Product Name", clicks your organic listing, and buys the product. This whole process takes less than 30 minutes. "Your Brand + Product Name" will appear in your organic keyword report with 1 visit. My question is whether "Product Name" will also appear in organic keyword report with 1 visit if the visitor is not signed in. ( as search won't be encrypted ) Thanks
